High end mtn bikes have some insane brakes. Type to send you flying if you aren't firmly fixed to the bike. 40mph to a dead stop in less than 2 feet of space hits different. It's like the ultimate brake check.
@@the_special_cat578 They're Panaracer GravelKing's on my build. But they also have specialized pedals & shoes that connect to one another to keep you planted on the bike. Much like you see with skiis/snowboards being fixed to the feet. It's really the only thing keeping you on. Although 2ft for that stop might have been a stretch. Maybe 5-7ft is more accurate. It still feels like every last fiber of your being shifts forward inside your skin though. 🤣
As a metallurgist with a background in materials engineering (specialising in composites like carbon fibre and other materials ), I can tell you that the wheel is more than capable of the forces endured. I'm about to google what tyres and if they're beaded the same as my old, late 00s down hill mountain bike, because that's something I'm not upto date with. The riders have been gifted with stronger, more nimble and light as hell machines by the year and with disc brakes that are almost impossible to overheat in any way. Plus skills just get better with every generation outdoing the last.
@@danielwitham1791 Thanks for that extra bit of insight. That's insane to know that they aren't really stressing the components much. I figured, theres some insanely skilled riders out there doing crazy stunts and jumps that need those components to hold up or else it could be catastrophic for the rider
@Jurban5 I'm inclined to agree, they do insane jumps with some nasty landings here and there but these turns are everywhere. All those times combined, that's a hell of a rim to withstand those forces for sure.
@@danielwitham1791have you seen the progress of recent years yourself? Has the production process changed a lot recently? I'm curious but I reckon it's not something that's typed up and summarized in a minute but figured I'd ask anyways
@@danielwitham1791 maybe the bead hasn't done any crazy advancements but the tyres sure as hell have gotten tougher with a pair of heavyduty downhill ones being 1.5 kilos in average. Loads of meat, kevlar/carbon and thiccc sidewalls that make rocks fear you and not the other way around. Also the crazy new compounds that are so soft they could make spiderman proud
Incredible, I had the same Forkner take as DV. But I would like to know if psychology could explain this. Do different people have different subconscious ”impact response”, as in timing of muscle tension or strength used. Because when you absorb an impact like that there’s no time to think, and you need max force at the right time. What if your brain is just calibrated wrong?
I did this on flat ground on a unicycle shortly after learning how to ride it. Its electric, so I just stand on it. It decided it was gonna go into a hard turn and did a full 180 inside of a 1 meter area. The wheel was practically sideways. I have no idea how I didn't get thrown off.
"AYEIIII!!!"
Sikeeee
The corner whip is impressive.....The fact he stopped 3 secs later is insane.
Brakes work wonders

@Phearsum Damn bro what tires you have to do 27Gs on deceleration, and how do you hold on? 😂

My code R’s will throw me off if I’m stupid and they aren’t anywhere close to the top of the line brakes
Put the goddamn riders name in the description

Modern equipment is insanity. I'm only 46, and the progression in my lifetime is basically from sticks and stones compared to what it is today.
Also progression of sport.
Is no one gonna mention the "AyeeeEEeeee"
This is one of those moments where its hard to comprehend how the rim can withstand those forces.

Balls of steel and amazing strength. Holy!
My man has tangled with Newtonian physics, quantum mechanics too

Why does that berm remind me of the Large Hadron Collider😅
I was confused for a few seconds with your comment, I read it as “ a large hard on collider “ by mistake. .. lmfao 🤣💀🤣
Let’s give some credit to the bead on his rear tire!
That:aiiiiiiiii😂
I never saw those as 'berms', rather as 'jumps' that er'ybody else just turned away from.😊
