    He has a point. White Americans don’t call themselves European-Americans, same thing should apply to black Americans.

    • @elmoelbow
      @elmoelbow Рік тому +589

      Whites routinely and proudly call themselves Irish American or Italian American or Native American … and more. Some even have parades to celebrate their heritage beyond American shores. Trying to connect to one heritage doesn’t undermine the importance of the other. It completes the person. And especially for Black Americans who had the History and heritage stripped away after being forced into slavery for 300 plus years. And Elon Musk is an African invader … African Colonizer. How he related to his coming from Africa and Blacks being descended from Africa is as different as wind and rain.

      Have you ever heard of Italian Americans, Irish Americans and Japanese Americans? African American describes race and nationality. If African countries were successful and prosperous American black people would be proud to be associated with Africa. But because Africa has widespread poverty and war some black people like Smokey want to distance themselves from the very continent that there ancestors came from 400 years ago. The majority of Black Americans DNA is African. FACT. Calling yourself an African American is not denying being an American.

We are not inferior to whites and our lives are just as valuable as anyone else yet we have been labeled as such for generations. We are Americans period! Today, you are no more of African descent, but American. So, the fact that blacks were stolen and sold into slavery is a saving grace for you. You have no land or people to return to. Your origin is a few hundred years old. Who were you before slavery. Have you seen what Russia has revealed. Jeremiah said, " For the hurt of the daughter of my people, am i hurt."

You do know if you are black you will have African ancestry in your DNA 😮 and this is why many black folk use the term African American honoring those stolen and enslaved ancestors brought all over the world 🌎 So People have a choices and can define themselves which ever way they want to.Now think🤔 your American cause you were born here (I take it you were) 🤔 but your black because you had the African in your DNA.Plus I don't give a rats azz what smokey calls his self but sound like some shame 🥺in the game to me😏 I'm just sayin😏

It's much better fitting for a foundational group of a country than it is by putting an entirely different continent on the name of that foundational group.

      Now recently i made a online. friend in South Africa . Tho id enjoy going there to see the sights . Im sure as soon as i opened my mouth to talk id be told that i was American . & id not be insulted by it at all . Proud to be an American . Just like my friend was proud to be South African .
      I experienced the same thing when i was fortunate to travel to Asia . All of them wonderful people & proud of their nation & their country . Dont really understand all this hyphenated garbage . To me it just implies youre downtrodden by someone racist then you have to go around finding someone that you can bait long enough to get a reaction so you can claim to your like minded friends that the whole world is against you . Seems more than silly to me lol

      White & 100% agree! IMO, the people that are always saying ‘this is raciest’ ‘that’s raciest’ ‘he is raciest’, ‘she’s raciest’, are the people that are actually the raciest & they have too much time on their hands. It’s like we moving backwards.
      Everyday, someone comes up with a new ‘label’, why not turn the emphasis on what type of person someone is, instead of what they look like. I’m old, I stopped trying to keep up. Like the old saying. “I don’t care what you call me, as long as you call me when it’s time to eat!”

      @@WapajeaWalksOnWater what a terriblly generic argument. U can hold onto ur heritage if u moved here from another country. No one is saying otherwise. But, u would be an American citizen. Naturally born Americans hv originated from other countries as well but they are also just considered Americans. Look, idc all that much. But, we differ from other countries in the sense that if an American moved to Cuba, they would still be called an American, whereas when ppl come to America u mix right in. It does not distinctly separate everyone in the general public unless u are bringing up the census or gov type applications. We all just blend together.
