So weird, I think this is a fine song to be played on the radio. 0 points? they only want “different” sounding songs? You deserved more, greetings from the Netherlands.
But that's kinda the problem with our songs. We only have "radio suitable" songs at ESC even though there are great German bands like Eskimo Callboy which don't get nominated because they aren't "radio suitable"
Edit: The band is now called "Electric Callboy" and not "Eskimo Callboy"
Germany produced very radio-conform music which you can hear every day but Radio is different to ESC.

Wir sollten uns wirklich überlegen ob wir unseren talentierten jungen Musikern diese Demütigungen nicht ersparen sollten.
Wir sollten darauf verzichten, dass wir automatisch ins Finale kommen (Big 5). Dann wäre es so oder so auch auf dem letzten Platz schon ein tolles Ergebnis am Finale teilzunehmen.
Wir sind die größten Geldgeber des ESC. Deshalb sind wir immer im Finale.
ABER das ist doch schon der blanke Hohn. Wir zahlen und die anderen feiern. Ok, wenn der Song nicht gut ist, dann ist das eben so und man verdient den letzten Platz.
Aber ein Song der gut ist, der einfach nur nicht gewählt wird, weil er von Deutschland kommt? Darauf habe ich keinen Bock mehr. Für mich ist der ESC ab jetzt nicht mehr existent!

There is a lot of swings and roundabouts in euro everything look at Brexit and lately nothing makes sense.. But keep true to yourself. I really think the song is just gonna grow on people.. Its seemed sad ..but listening again it is says more about hope.. A real experience.

The point system is: Jury votes for neighboring countries and the people for EDM stuff.
My guess is that the audience vote is just for the money. You pay to vote for your favourite artist but then if you're unlucky it won't even count for anything because the overall audience of your country voted for other artists. You basically did nothing while Eurovision gets the money

Neither jury or the public liked the song. Theres no conspiracy behind it, Germany had many great songs throughout the years and were awarded many points. But this is song is just very basic with weak voice behind it and at some point he sounds like budget Eminem.

This song is absolutely my favourite, it’s so relaxing and soft. I hope Malik knows that he is an amazing and talented artist and doesn’t take his ranking too hard on himself. His performance was amazing and it still baffles me that he got only 6 points and zero jury votes.

I agree with most comments! This song is on my playlist too and all years when Eurovision finishes , I upload my favourite songs from the contest , and this one is one of my favourite songs, so I really congratulate him for his performance and the inner message of the song. It is awesome!
I do the same (except I am training myself to like all the songs so I'm putting one song in my playlist each day) and also out of curiosity what songs are in your Eurovision 2022 playlist?
What I especially liked is that everyone but Malik had these fancy costumes and he just concentrated on singing like it was nothing special. He didn’t treat it different than other concerts and just performed his part and that is what I admire.

@@patrickananas1999 I think it's because Germany is a big player in the EU economy and in a special way has a kind of "leadership" inside the EU - nobody likes "bosses" even when they're harmless. The German oeaipke aren't guilty for being almost the biggest country ( by number of inhabitants) and having such an important role in economy. They can't size themselfs smaller.

While I get and ubderstand the message, it's just a sad sad song. Personally it's depressing to hear german radios with all that sad depressing songs. We deserved the last place. Plus, why always in English? Use the german language goddammit! They only choose english in the hope to get more points which is just sad, just like the song. This song ended up last, but so many people are here watching and enjoying the performance and now Germany has more views than most songs from the final. I felt so bad T.T deserved more than 6 points, but I'm still happy for those 6 from the public

It's suitable for radio and other "light entertainment" environments.
For the category "best song" it's way too generic, for "artistic representation" just aswell - it's nothing new or impressive to a minimalistic setup.
And in the category "best composition" it outright fails due to being based on some generic instrumental with generic melody.
Like almost every pop musician over the course of the last 20 years already had a couple takes on this exact style. Nothing worth giving a price, basically just another radio tune you hear only half while at work or standing in a traffic jam

When I watched Malik perform this, I rated him the winner. It's an incredible song and it's a great performance. I was absolute stunned by the final result. I just don't understand why it didn't get the votes it deserved.

Two days passed and I still cannot understand this song got only 6 points. It gave me chills when I first listened. It really touch somewhere in my heart. When we were kids, we always dreamed big like becoming rockstars and so on. Now we almost dont dream at all.

It is derivative, generic, uninspired radio pop schlock drenched in cheap nostalgia about "remembering how times used to be". You can't go more clichee and hacky in songwriting than that. I knew we were destined for the bottom three once again when I first heard it. It is infuriating that the people responsible for our pre-selection still value generic radio consons music over something more unique with profile and character. This was a loud fart of NOTHING.

Naja Ohrwurm würde ich jetzt nicht sagen. Wie oft hab ich aus meinem Bekanntenkreis die Frage gehört, wie der Song nochmal geht. Den Song kannste neben der Arbeit gut im Büro hören oder unterwegs im Auto, mehr aber auch nicht. Das DE damit (auch ohne Krieg) unter den letzten 5 landen würde, hatten richtige Experten (nicht die vom NDR) bereits vorausgesagt. Wäre vielleicht gut gewesen etwas nicht radiotaugliches zu Wählen und damit etwas mutiger zu sein. Aber ganz ehrlich, ich guck mir den Quatsch nicht mehr an. Meinetwegen können die auch das Geld der ÖR sparen und gar nicht mehr antreten.

Guys, it's not as bleak as it seems, we don't really know the true score for German songs, because the Eurovision scoring system does not care about accuracy for any song not in the top 10 ... for example, imagine if every single country placed Germany on 13th place by the number of votes they received from public ... MATH says Germany is on 13th place ... sadly Germany will end up on the last place because 13th place gets zero points same as the very last 25th place ... Scoring used only tell us no one thought Germany was in top 10 not that it was the last or the worst song ... because statistics and math do not work accurately with this system ... for the practical reason scoring only cares and is accurate for the top 10 ...

For me this song is a small island where I take refuge from time to time. Malik is so talented and genuine and I find the performance beautiful with a suggestive and personal staging. I just want to go back to easier time, when I had no worries, when i was afraid of nobody. I feel that a lot of people feel like this, especially in a society where you are constantly compared to others, where your collegues or your classmates are not your friends, they are just your rivals. I too wish I could "press pause or do a restart and be who I am". This is my favourite song of this edition and in my heart you are the winner. Oscar Loya I somewhat agree. No the performance did not WOW, it was however simple and raw without feeling cheap. Which is probably harder to achieve than one would think. Some of the others were just trying to do to much and be different, resulting in some of them feeling shallow.

I totally agree with you that criticism is important, but by saying 'it is bad', you don't help the artist (who has a lot of potential) grow. And it also doesn't take away the fact that his performance moved a lot of people, which is also an important aspect of a song for many people..

I liked the french song a lot as well though, as a german. It was not the typical entry i expected from France. As for Germany itself, we are used to being bad at ESC. Our song this year was good (unlike the 2021 german entry), but more of a radio song.
This guy deserved so much better. I can’t believe Germany got just a few points, I mean he had it all the sound, the voice, the originality, the lyrics, the style, everything.
