Great great video. I saw Donald Hodge hit a half court shot at the buzzer to beat DeMatha in the DC Area City title game. I love seeing these guys play and what they’ve been doing for decades.
Played with Mills in Compton AAU league, with Owens at 5 Star Camp, Against Sealy, Latner, Kemp, Bell at 5 Star. Saw Martin, McClean at all tournaments in California/Vegas and Morning and Mustaf at UCLA tournament. 88 was a very competitive yr…Definitely had to bring A-Game back then. Lotta other players not mentioned that were outstanding. Glad I got to compete during that time.
Man if you watched Billy Owens at Syracuse you would have thought he was gonna be the next Magic Johnson. That's how highly we thought of him back in the early EARLY days.
@@sfrank8687 Young cats think I'm exaggerating when I speak about some of these guys, but I grew up on Big East/Big Monday and I honestly thought he was going to be even better than Seikaly and Coleman at one point.
@@Bighjr88 Unfortunately, so many of them come up short in the NBA. Even Melo should have expanded his game and played defense... was in several situations to win a title or two.
Eric Anderson was a good HS player from the East Side of Chicago (St Francis De Sales). And honestly forgot about Don McLean, was a nice collegiate player at UCLA
Peace to everyone. I remember this class well and starting with the 79 class with too many guys to name the 88 was up next with great big men and some outstanding guard play along with the forwards what a stacked class I'm not saying it's the greatest high school class but definitely worth the hype
Like the other guy said, 79 is nasty. 81 is also pretty sick! 95 also has four future NBA Hall of Famers, so it has to be up there (even if the depth isn't there)
I was at a game when Anthony Peeler played for the Grizzlies and heard him flirt w/ a cheerleader for our team in the middle of a game, while he was on the court 🤣. Admittedly, they knew each other from college (apparently) but he was flirting.
Heard that Kenny Williams was the real deal. Some people had him rated ahead of Mourning and Shawn Kemp in this class. He didn't play in that McDonald's game. Shaq said he was the 3rd option at LSU behind the former Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts. No way Derrick {sic} Martin was a trainer in his latter years 😂. Eric Anderson was the truth at Indiana. His skill set in that Bobby Knight motion offense was like hand and glove. They got cheated against Duke in the Final Four. Jarrod Mustaf 🤦♂️
Christian Laettner proved to be the greatest college player from this class (and in the history of college basketball), the overall best players from this class were Shawn Kemp and Alonzo Mourning. Overall a very good class. Also Chris Jackson was the original Steph Curry. His game was about 25-30 years before it's time.
Man, I forgot how talent-packed these McDonalds Teams were back in late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s.
@@jasondonovan3062 the ‘88 team was seen as the best one since the ‘79 class at the time

That wasn’t Donald Hodge it was Donald Ford who played for Dundar.

You could do your own documentary.

Facts.
RIP Malik Sealy 💐
RIP Jerrod Mustaf

Don McLean college career ended at the hands of Eric Anderson in the NCAA tournament

What a fantastic class!!!
'88 and '91 were the best two classes. Followed closely by '89
Have u seen the ‘79 class?

@@RickyFrech404 In the 1981 class, to me had the best college player I ever seen in it and it’s NOT Jordan!
You gotta put 95 in there. KG, Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups, Vince Carter? Stephon Marbury? That class was incredible lol

great video
Wait, Kemp got arrested for "drugs" but Lattner got arrested for Marijuana?
You know that he had to make Lattner situation more appealing than Kemp. Even though it’s the same thing, that’s what you call privilege
I seen Donald Hodge in 1988 at H. D. Woodson in Dc,I never seen a person that tall b4!
I "saw"...

Kenny was legit. Too bad his grades weren't. Would have been a great player had he made it to UNC.
Living a normal life in La, I think that's an oxymoron. Alonzo was a great player.
Dude! He started a basketball school to pass on knowledge about playing iverseas to the next generation
Darrick Martin made the McDonald’s All-America Team over Terrell Brandon. That was a joke!
