Illustrator Reacts to Requested Manga Artists (Mangaka)

- After the last Illustrator Reacts to Good and Bad Manga art episode, I got tons more requests for Mangaka to cover in this series. And I am happy to oblige! So in this episode we look at a bunch of the requested artists. fantastic creators such as Boichi (Dr. Stone and Sun Ken Rock), Eiichiro Oda (One Piece), Sui Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul), Kaoru Mori (A Bride's Story), Posuka Demizu (The Promised Neverland) and My Hero Academia creator Kohei Hirokoshi.
In each illustrator reacts video I've had a different sort of focus lately on a specific theme, this time I talk a lot about how different artists use different rending styles or color schemes. I also break down Boichi's coloring process which he laid out in an article online. I also talk a bit about text layout and how switching text in a manga from Japanese to English can sometimes mess up the flow of a piece. And of course I had to talk about how awesome of a protagonist Luffy is for Eiichiro Oda's art style!
I hope you all enjoy this episode and I'm super excited to see who else you all request I talk about!!!

Fun fact: Kohei Horikoshi actually has so much experience with drawing his characters that he completely skips the sketching phase
The same for Sui Ishida that Tokyo Ghoul puts for Re is wonderful 🤤
So true
He also skips the “good story” phase I imagine.

God I hope he does Kentaro Miura's Berserk, even just comparing the first volume to the latest, somehow he managed to improve himself from godly to transcendent with his panel-to-panel linework
His work is CRAZY awesome!!!! Covered him in illustrator reacts episode 3! ua-cam.com/video/vQX4aJEFghg/v-deo.html :D
I wouldn't say the art in the beginning is godly, it was pretty average, but in the latest volumes it is amazing.
@@watashinihayumegaarimasu7609 The amount of detail was crazy since beginning.
Definitely not average.
@@kratosverger123 nahh, it seemed pretty average and edgy to me in the beginning.

And why the art was edgy ? Like, how can a draw be edgy ? Just because had blood and gore ?
For a part 2, you should look into Itagaki’s art with Baki the Grappler
Oooooh. cool! Haven't heard of it but I'll check it out!!!

@@yutubes2465 kinda like Liefeld
I second this. Both Keisuke Itagaki and his daughter Paru are excellent mangaka/artists and definitely are worth a look. I think you will be especially impressed by Itagaki's understanding of anatomy and his growth as an artist over the past 20+ years
Kentaro Miura. As if he hasn't been suggested a million times already.
we don't even have to link anything, just search any page from anything he has made
He was already done
Thanks for the info yall.
oh lol just made a comment about him as well xD

One Piece is one of the most cartoony action manga that exists, he has style and uses few textures through all of his work which is impressive, because textures is something manga artists really like
Whenever I buy a One Piece volume I often times just spend over an hour just admiring the artwork. It doesn't take long to read but the art is gorgeous when you just take your time to appreciate it.
One Piece's art style is cartoony but it can still be quite textured depending on what panel you're looking at, Naruto for example is the opposite, its more realistic anatomy wise but doesn't have much shading.
Personally, I think Oda’s not as good at the art but his story telling is phenomenal
@@whoopnoop4043 not liking his style is something completely differrent to "Oda not being good at drawing". He wants his characters to look like that. If you take your time to compare his art to say Kishimoto's art you'd be hard pressed to find a single panel that's as detailed as the shit Oda draws. He's damn good at what he does. His story telling/world building is his bread and butter but don't go thinking that he's bad at drawing. He's amazing at it.
@Zane yeah, re-reading what I wrote, I realise that was pretty high of me to say, but I do like his style. But it’s the fact that some panels, especially for newer arcs, are just so detailed that it’s sort of jarring and overwhelming. And then combined with his simplistic characters? just kinda crazy for me. Again, it was wrong of me to say he wasn’t good, and this sort of stuff is subjective to people so I’m sorry for spouting that like it was fact. Also, I’m pretty new to manga (there’s only so much I can take with the one piece anime), so maybe I’ll get used to it. I’m only reading Blue Exorcist and One piece atm, I’m hoping to start a manga collection or something like that.
PopCross Studios: "Laffy"
ME: "OH NO!
Peter Piper hey at least one piece made it
Is that a jojo reference
I've read that apparently Eiichiro Oda works 21 hours a day, six days a week, on One Piece. A few years back he was hospitalized due to his work ethic impacting his health, and apparently friends and family who visited him in the hospital were shocked to see him continuing to work on One Piece even in his hospital bed. I gotta say, I admire his work ethic even though I wouldn't recommend emulating it...
Another fun fact is that in every volume of One Piece, there is a section dedicated to showing off fanart. In Volume 23 there was a piece of fan art featured of the character Smoker. A decade later, the fan artist who made it began publishing his very own manga... a manga called Boku no Hero Academia. In Volume 77 of One Piece, Oda gave a shoutout to Horikoshi congratulating him on starting his own manga, and gave him some words of encouragement. Oda also told his readers to check out Boku no Hero Academia.
There's a few other manga artists who had their art featured as fanart well before their own careers began (One Piece has been publishing a very long time, after all), but I can't remember who. When Oda is made aware of it, he always gives them support and calls them his "crewmates." Oda seems like a pretty cool guy honestly.
is this actually true? because if it is then that's really fucking cool!
@@valmontdonaldson2911 it is true, ive seen the picture too,ive read somewhere that oda held an interview with horikoshi sensei about his work on my hero academia, horikoshi also asked oda about his work as well.
el trapo One piece very very beautiful story I’m so glad that all of cares about his story so much I just think he should take more breaks more often and less because the story is so beautifully done I’m so interested in it I’m so sad to not have any people actually care about the story
Oda never comes off as an artist just striving to meet a deadline. As you're reading it and looking at the beautiful art you always feel like he's having just as much fun making it as we are having while reading it.
But yes, he's a workaholic and he should take better care of himself.
Oh wow.
I'm pretty sure A Bride's Story is a monthly manga too, like many other manga. So I'm not sure what devil she made a deal with to be able to draw all that within the same time span as other manga like Attack on Titan or Blue Exorcist.
Ooooh that makes sense, if she was doing it weekly she'd probably have to be working 24/7 XP

Kaoru's art is insanely detailed.
Manga's artist usually have a couple of assistans, I dunno how much that helps, but it's really interesting. I was watching a video of Sakamoto (The Climber and Innocent; impresive art) and the art is completely digital, the interesting part is that allows three persons working on the same page at the same time.
Do a video of Takeshiho Inoue, for me the best mangaka in terms of art.
Boichi's artstyle is so good. Half the reason how I even discovered Dr. Stone.
Yusuke Murata is definitely one that's a must see on boichi levels
@Jutsu Weaver don't remind me of the 56 year boat hiatus
Jutsu Weaver he’s not lazy, he just doesnt want to impose himself the insane Mangaka lifestyle. Because it would affect his health and his style. The reason why his art gets better is because he takes his time to draw each detail and make his page look just as he wants it to be, no matter how long it takes to finish it. It’s not laziness, It’s perfectionism.
TR D wdym? Miura care more about idol masters than berserk that isn’t perfectionism, his arts is getting better because their assistant are getting better too lol 😂.
Doctor Love 😂😂😂 OMG some fans really are brainwashed. I saw the interview where he said he liked idol master. And because of this short sentence, fans exaggerated . So because he likes a game you concluded that he is completely addict and that’s the reason why he’s takes so long to draw his chapters? That’s really the first reason that came to your mind? Not because he perhaps starts to lack of inspiration after 20 years? Not because he starts to be tired physically and mentally of creating the greatest manga for so long? Not because he no longer wants to put pressure on his aging body? No, you say it’s because he likes idols???Then you tell me that his art is getting better due to his assistants??? Really???
@Jutsu Weaver i know wasn't talking to you i was talking to Doctor Love who seems to thinks it's true
I love Hohei Horikoshi's art so much, each page of the manga is a masterpiece

I am super surprised you didn't view some of Miura's work on Berserk. Must see! He does incredible amounts of shading that shows the weight of characters, as well as an intenseness not seen in many other mangakas. Even his more wide angles, like some of the shots from the Lost Children Arc or the Fairy Arc are incredibly enthralling. Please check him out!

Noob just watch the older videos dont be lazy.
@@kaelthunderhoof5619 Yeah, but not everyone would, which means he had a chance to make Berserk a little bit more known by putting it in this video too, but didn't.
If people don't know Berserk, they aren't going to watch a video about it. But, if it's in a video about the best manga artists, then they might be impressed by the drawings and start reading it.
Try reviewing Hirohiko Araki, Akihito Tsukushi, CLAMP and Inio Asano's artwork. You'll be impressed.

Sui Ichida change A LOT his stile in tokyo ghoul:re, at the end of the manga has many improves (to me) in his style, you should see some images about it.
First volume of Tokyo Ghoul an last volume of Tokyo Ghoul: Re seem like they where drawn by a different mangaka
And : Re is just better than the first part
@@otoherrera3740 Oh thats have much more sense, thanks.
JACK jcs yeah he definitely got better and improved
@@otoherrera3740 In fact, if you compare the first chapter with the redraw you can see an amazing improvement.
I love the art, but i have such a hard time with the fight scenes. Especially later on, they feel very jumpy and cluttered. Like I can't tell what's happening from one panel to the next.
I finished the whole series and loved a lot of the characters. It's just a minor gripe.
Us in Malaysia were recently treated to Mori Kaoru's presence in yesterday's annual comic/anime festival. You talked about how time-consuming it would take to draw all those patterns in A Bride's Story, but from her live drawing demonstration she does it by hand at rapid speed (though I guess only for patterns she knows from memory).
She also has a huge passion for history and culture, which she gets by reading books. This passion seems to be rivaled only by her love of maids (and not just the typical "anime-style" maids, but actual Victorian maids lol)
Also Bochi is amazing and has a more western style, with anime touches and it is some of my favorite art ever
True! And yeah SOOOOOO great! I seriously love his work so much now!!!I wanna read all his manga now!
Could you do an illustrator reacts to fan art? Like not redrawing them but reviewing them? I’ve never really seen one of them that I liked because they just say oh woah and move on, which really annoys me, but I think you would do a much better job😁
His style is actually super typical of korean manhwa artists. I have no idea why or how they developed such a particular look and feel, but you can see it in a bunch of other korean artists whove made the jump into the Japanese market too
I love the illustrator reacts series
Woooo! Me too! Glad time came around for anther :D

Ah, Posuka's female, I made that error too. You should check out q Hayashida as well, she's got a really cool gritty style.
Also, that particular character at the end is named Evangelyne from a french cartoon called Wakfu. It's based off of an MMORPG called Wakfu that's a spin off of Dofus and so on. I highly recommend you look into the art of Xavier Houssin (xaxaxa) who made countless beautiful art for the company that owns the series.
9:21 "But why would you do this to yourself??"
*flashbacks of numerous Berserk panels*
And we wonder why Kentaro Miura put Berserk into hiatus
At least they got off the boat
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Hellsing and Drifters artist Kouta Hirano. It took him over a decade for Hellsing alone and that was only 10 volumes.
and i don't want to imagine how many pens he went through just drawing the many forms of alucard.
Yal Rathol And we’re talking Alucard alone. Wtf was he thinking with Zorin?
@@pixelsbykris5494 fuck zorin, i'm just imagining release level 0 and the monster of god. kohei horikoshi has said that he goes through an entire pen sometimes just drawing all might, that's ONE CHARACTER with heavy shading, hellsing's world doesn't seem to possess shades of grey, EVERYTHING is heavily shaded and when you get to level 0 and the monster of god, you have two different styles of heavy shading flailing in every direction for more than a chapter. his pens must weep every time he sits down to do a chapter
Curious to how it compares to berserk and vagabond, how would you place hellsing's art between these two. Not being negative about it but really curious on how good it is since I might read it (than watch it)
@@epistarter1136 well, a word of advice, you want hellsing the manga and hellsing ultimate for the anime, hellsing the anime got the FMA 2003 treatment where the anime caught up with the manga, and reportedly hirano hates that version with a passion.
as for the art, i don't know anything about vagabond, so i can't compare those two, but between berserk and hellsing, berserk has more technically impressive art, where every character is correctly shaped and their muscles connect properly, while hellsing is more fantastical and stylized. alucard rarely has anything approaching human proportions, and even the human characters seem to be able to loom over their opponents regardless of relative height and bend at perfect 90° angles in places where there aren't any joints.
the first chapter of hellsing definitely has the worst art of the entire series, unlike berserk which stays pretty consistent throughout, hellsing improves as it goes along.
revisit ishida when you start with tokyo ghoul:re (or just check the art of it now, the progress is astounding)
His art really improved and went to amazing places. If you wanna see a sample but don't want spoilers, I know he redrew chapter 1 of tokyo ghoul in his new style a little while ago and that's available. Really demonstrates how his art changed over the course of the TG series
@@GreatKingEd i read everything, so no spoilers, but i did not know about that, tnx, man! Will probably compare them panel for panel :D
Yeah you're extremely right! Over the span of him making the manga (I think it took him 6 years or so) his style changed so much, even his coloured pages look astonishingly different now. He's a great artist :)
P.S. I can't believe Chris actually got the manga to read it!
Ishidas art only gets better
Luka Trdina The art of this series is my favorite art and style of all time. He got so much better over time
A Bride Story is basically a huge flex, showing how much detail you can make in one panel

Some of those early dogs tho. Iggy, you doin ok? Don’t look so hot...
You could also finish the rest of the Big Three: Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto) and Tite Kubo (Bleach). Also, Yuki Tabata from Black Clover and the manga illustrator for Goblin Slayer, Kosuke Kurose.
I gotta say, you have some incredibly fresh design insights, and you’re able to lay them out so concisely! I follow a lot of artistic channels but yours in particular is doing the most to expand my design vocabulary :D Just earned another subscriber!
Well, Kaoru Mori's story is about Central Asia so they art has to be so detailed.
Sui Ishida's art gets WAY better later in the series.
Definitely, he should look at Sui Ishida's work in Tokyo Ghoul:re
He's also a painter
Yeah, even though I love tokyo ghoul, his art style on the beggining is one of the ugglyest art artyles I have ever seen in mu life, on tokyo ghoul re his a lot better but he is the type of artist who can't draw action scenes very well
@@Unknown_31415 tbh his early art style looked better for fights, i love his newer artstyle but it's so messy in fights
Reminds me of Ajin from Gamon Sakurai. His art was just okay and nothing worth talking about. And then somewhere before the chapters hit 20 his art went through a major overhaul and it was just GREAT! I will always recommend this manga to anyone. The panelling is so great you feel like you're watching a movie.
You should react to Akihito Tsukushi's art, his most famous manga is called "Made in Abyss" :)
Kaoru Mori's dedication to the lavishness of textile depiction really reminds me of Aubrey Beardlsey
I absolutely agree. I’m currently reading The Spirit of Beardsley which I borrowed from my uni and I see a lot of similarities with Kaoru Mori’s art. I’m sure she must’ve been influenced by Beardsley at some point.
Kaoru Mori understand and deeply respect the importance of the clothing patterns in the character's culture. Mad respect
"I think that I'm a decent artist"
*this video exists*
"I am trash"
I got into drawing abit, you know the classic pipe dream of making a great manga . Everytime i think i get how to do one thing and im impressed with myself i see , litteraly any artwork and feel like trash
You know... they were born knowing nothing. some people dont know how To read and write.. becuz you are not born with this knowledge.
You dont remember what it was Like To be infront of this impossible task and saying i dont know how To do all this, but i sure will one day.
What i mean is we are trash, and thats good becuz we see it and we improve.
From a random human on earth in Québec Canada
We always think that when we see others art, just because we know what it takes to do them. Still, if you ever thought you are a decent artist, means you are in the right way!
I know is a joke, but there's so much people frustrated and thinking for real they're trash because they don't do things like their favourite artists. For anyone out there reading this, never think that! Keep learning and never EVER compare yourself to others, that'd never be good.
You should check out the part he did one punch man artist. The artist started pretty bad.
I love Oda's art, have read One Piece for years now and I can be cretic about Oda's way to draw females, there are three types of bodies he give them: Beautiful, old and fat. He also suffers from a bit of same face syndrome when it comes to females, it's gonna be a problem if Robin and Boa ever is gonna be in the same scene.
His male character design tho, no one looks the same.
Btw, Oda is a perv xD B O O B S is his life, if you ever read his SBS:s you will see it quite clearly
His strong point is the story telling, environment and male character design.
Also in kinda defense of that “2 circle,1X” thing he mentioned, I think he does it because
1. It’s exaggerated and kinda cartoony, so it kinda fits in the art style of the series
2. It’s short, simple and quick to draw which can crucial when working on the weekly schedule of a mangaka
Yeah that's kinda fair. And to be honest my fav Humberto Ramos kinda does that a lot of the time too. I still am not a huge fan of it, but it does seem to fit with both their styles.
@@PopCross Besides it's just a guide line and after reading for a while you stop noticing it or just accepts it, 960 chapters will do that you you xD
Well that's a huge comment
"His strong point is the story telling, environment and male character design"
Nope, he's mediocre at best.
This was an amazing review dude! I loved that you were so into Boichi! I found that manga randomly and fell in love with the art.
SHINICHI SAKAMOTO is where it's at artwise. I mean, I can already anticipate that you'd interpret his art similarly to how you talk about Kaoru Mori. Sakamoto's art again is incredibly detailed, but it doesn't just end there. He's got an incredibly good grasp on perspective, depth, texture, different drawing styles - all at once. Sakamoto creates genuine, complete art that isn't limited to just the mastery of any single aspect of artistry. It's creative vision as much as it is skilled craftsmanship.
KENGO HANAZAWA, MAKOTO YUKIMURA, and JEON GEUK-JIN, MASASUMI KAKIZAKI and HIDEO YAMAMOTO are also fairly sick.
@@zentheris In case you haven't watched it, the UA-cam channel Archipel has a fascinating interview and mini-documentary with and about Sakamoto where he shows and speaks about his creative process. Really intriguing and gave me a whole new level of appreciation for the man.
I love Oda for the fact his inspiration is akin to Popeye and old time cartoons.
I don’t mind how he draws women, because the hour glass shape was always famous in the 50’s-80’s like Jessica rabbit and I respect him for staying true to his way and bringing back this style to the world with godlike writing to boot.
agree
Agree
to be fair, oda also acknowledges that his drawing of women is not exactly his greatest skill, so i don't think he would want you to follow his advice on how to draw female characters, he would probably prefer you figure out your own way to do it.
He was making a joke.
The previous guy made some joke about Nico Robin's name refering to her boobs and asked if that was it and he responded mockingly offended
And then proceded to give advice of drawing her by starting with the boobs. It's a joke. Which is also quite usless advice that wouldn't remotely work other than maybe for a very flat front angle.
oda does like his big boobies and smal waist and u can see that in almost every female charecter or els u wil get a flash back where the female charecter was sexy
Otakus hearing him saying Laffy instead of luffy
Arrgh I hate it as the sound of metal scratching metal...
Jk, don't cry Cool down man on me.
I think Iro Aida's works has a really impressive and beautiful style! The way they do colors and line amaze me a lot. Their works in detailing backgrounds are just so great to see!
You should talk about Shinichi Sakamoto's art the detail is insane.
Yes this.
Shinichi Sakamoto and Inio Asano pls
Agreed! Both Kokou no Hito and Innocent have completely breathtaking panels.
Just a note, in most manga, the gutter changing to black usually means that you are reading a flash back. Just wanted you to remember that so you dont get confused when you read other materials. Great episode, as always! Keep up the good work
this🔝
usually yes, but If I remember well on tokyo ghoul wasn't a flashback
Ishida uses the black gutter to indicate that it's dark. Haven't really seen any other artist do that and i thought it was pretty clever.
@@_The_Weatherman Oh I know. I was just letting him know that MOST artists use it to indicate a flashback
One piece is damn good. No wonder it’s the highest selling manga

you should react to attack on titan's manga, cause the artist/author knows how bad it looks, but he sometimes deliver some of the best drawings. also the manga is the best so that make up for the bad art ( which improved a lot over the years ).
In the recent chapters Isayama has not had a single bad panel.
@@shadowgiraffe7502 well... i wanna say that i agree but i very recently compared his art in this shiganshina ark, to his lebirio ark's art and i sure saw a different quality, i recommend going back and seeing chapter 101,102,103. all tho this ark is better imo.
I keep seeing this story floating around but could never confirm it... is it true that for one page/panel he actually drew well, and the readers got so put off they demanded him return to the usual style?
It could be in a video about how artist's style changes from being bad to... good? Decent? I kinda like to look at his drawings now but first chapters are so painful to watch, haha ^^'
@@wor575 no way lol, readers love it when he draws detailed panels with unique structure. he's workin on 46 pages in 25 days at best.
(Take a shot every time I say "Art Style")
Horikoshi's art style had a huge impact on my art style. I try to draw all of my characters in a way that is unique to that character from their eyes, their hair, their heights, …. and boob size. If you showed an image of class 1-A from MHA to someone who knew nothing about the show and asked them who was the main character, they would more than likely have a hard time figuring that out and I love art styles like that. I also adore Oda's art style, I never understood why so many other people didn't like it but to each their own I guess. I just have a love for art styles that are like no others. With how many anime and manga exist, a lot of them look the same and can be kind of boring. But their are also so many talented artist with manga and anime. Toriyama, Horikoshi, Oda, and Arakawa had the biggest impact on my art style. The reasons these artists impacted my art style was because I liked to draw Ocs' and I would try to draw them in the art style of the show that they were for. So that really helped me in finding my art style.

Araki's art from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Parts 7 and 8 specifically are also some of the best Manga art I've ever seen.
Same goes to Vegabond. (Forgot the artist, forgive me) Please do a video on these 2. Would love to see your perspective on them.
Most people that haven't read JoJo haven't read it because they can't stand the artwork, myself included ofc
@@thatguy-jk1os: Understandable, I can't convince you, but I seriously wish you guys could see Araki's Part 7 and 8 monthly chapter art style. It's legit light and day compared to parts 1-6's art in the Manga. Not going to ask you to check since it would be spoilers, and besides, when Part 7 ultimately gets animated, (hopefully DP does it justice like they did with Part 5) I promise you, it's going to be big... Probably the biggest popularity surge Jojo as a series will experience. Fairly confident about that statement! So not so bad to wait. Again, it's seriously light and day compared to parts 1-6. It is stunning and jaw dropping in the manga. Amazing writing, along with the super realistic art. Especially with the backgrounds and Araki's strong understanding of horse and human anatomy. To the point I even fell in love with it. Hence my expressiveness. Of course not everybody will agree and that's ok. I am not against your opinion.
Also, let's go away from Jojo. Thoughts on Vegabond's art? That and A Brides Story has *THE* best Manga art in my opinion. Even more than Jojo by far. Those are literally unadaptable. You should check out Inio Asano, his art is a really interesting blend between hyper realistic and simplistic. Especially in his series Goodnight Punpun.
Yeah his background art is breathtakingly outstanding while his characters are really well looks basic.
I think he would be very impressed with the manga “Land of the Lustrous”
When I read that panel from Tokyo Ghoul, I didn't really notice the criss-cross action you were talking about. But now I do see how it would be really cool to read the text while following Kaneki. Great eye
I wish you would do more of these. It’s nice to talk about good art and artists. I like that you want to celebrate rather than trash bad artists.
You HAVE to look at Katsuhiro Otomo's work. He created the five-part masterpiece of a manga, Akira. Which he later directed into a movie. Akira is my favorite movie, and I think you should watch it too, as the animation is absolutely gorgeous and moves smoother than a buffed museum floor.
he already did that in his good bad artwork.
Ishida is literally my favorite artist of all time, I heavily recommend you look at his artwork in Tokyo Ghoul’s sequel manga, Tokyo Ghoul :Re. It is far greater in quality.
Thank you for talking about Kaoru Mori, I always love to read her work.
Please check out Hirohiko Araki - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Kentaro Miura - Berserk, and very recently, Kensuke Nishida - Jagaaaaan
Oh and Itagaki - Grappler Baki. Tell me any of those are less than amazing,
Thumbs up for Kentaro Miura.
Shout out Jagaaaaaan and Baki excellent manga
he DID jojo
I seen Baki! You and I are now best friends!
@@bitingmylips666 and Berserk
When Luffy gear third punches Kaido big head- Oda's art peaked
Damn, at 16:47, the glint across those glasses was really clean.
I just found this and LOVED listening to your analysis of these artists (Kohei is one of my personal favorites and I feel like his work on the manga's does NOT get the attention it deserves).
A few artists I would LOVE to see covered are Kohta Hirano (Hellsing and Drifters) Specifically a two page spread in volume 3 of Hellsing that I just cannot find a picture of here at work but will happily add if/when I can find it. Second I would adore is Hiroyuki Takei (Shaman King and Karakuri Douji Ultimo), the evolution of his art from very round and soft in early SK to super angular and sharp by the time of Ultimo is fascinating to see. Finally, Katsura Hoshino of D.Gray-Man, her art is not only fantastic, BUT she's continued her series in spite of multiple hospital trips due to illness.
Manga artist recomendation:
Ito Ogure AKA:"Oh Great!" (Bakemonogatari/Air Gear)
Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion)
Ozamu Tezuka AKA: "The God of Manga" (all his works)
Hiroya Oku (Gantz)
Shirow Masamune (Ghost In the Shell)
Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Saga)
I'm still amazed to this day by Oh Greats! Artwork in Air Gear, sooo much work must have gone into it, and plus I love rollerblading sooo I'm bias lol
Yoshitaka Amano: Vampire Hunter D.
Hiroaki Samura: Blade of the Immortal, Die.
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko: Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin.
Sakamoto Shinichi: The Climber/Innocent.
Masasumi Kakizaki: Green Blood/Rainbow.
@@thehollowlingwin Tenjou Tengen is where he really flexes his art muscles imo.
@@arcanask It's also extremely impressive how much he improved from the beginning to the end of it. The beginning had kinda poor art but by the end of it it's mindblowingly good. I still feel like he got even better with Air Gear and Bakemonogatari, though.
No one ever remembers Vagabond
I didn't expect that "Lohffy" gut punch, for future reference, it's pronounced like "Loofy"
he said luhffy
@@Louis_2568 luffy is pronounced that way in english. Seems like no one in the comment section knows how to speak english at all. Luf-fy intonation at the first "f"
@@JarlinJamesNDK13 I was just spelling out how he said it and I don't care how it's said in English this show is Japanese
@@Louis_2568 and its also dubbed in english so do you get my point ? if it was supposed to be lu-ffy then oda should have written it as loofy as opposed to luffy. Not the person's mistake if he actually knows to speak english.
@@JarlinJamesNDK13 I am not blaming him but for example my name there is a correct way to pronounce it even if it looks like it is pronounced a different way I am just saying that is the way the creator named his character and that is how it should be pronounced
I'm a new viewer, but I have to say I absolutely LOVE your analysis and appreciation for all these mangakas! I'm not sure if you have talked about this person, but Shinichi Sakamoto's Innocent & Innocent Rouge has amazing detailing and I'd love to hear your input!
Boichi’s Art is so amazing cause I love the anatomy and detail he did!!
I also think the Tokyo Ghoul Re style is better than the regular Tokyo ghoul manga !
if you like Tokyo Ghoul at volume 1 you'll be in for a treat, if you read the whole series you can see Ishida evolve as an artist over time, his art becomes better, he becomes more creative with the composition of the pages and how each panel is connected. in the beginning it's all very basic square boxes kinda, and later on you'll see him using the characters to frame his panels in a much more dynamic way. A great example is in ch. 141 where you have a page with the character Tatara on it, he's drawn full body, but from the waist down his coat transitions into hair and is used as the border for another panel showing a close-up of his face.

Also while reading TG be on the lookout for numbers hidden in the artwork, the story follows the fools journey and there's alot of connections to tarot cards... for example Juuzou's hairpins signify his character and personality, his role within the story, and they change as his character evolves...
Damn right
Re has top tier page composition
Art style kinda becomes scrathcy (I dont know how to spell it) sometimes in :re . Or maybe most of the time. Tho its still really incredible and probably not a problem. Re is amazing with its artwork.
@@nightshade2826 Ishida has always been an avid user of rougher lines. If anything, it's a form of expression. If you look at his coloured pages you may find that his lineart isn't clean at all and it bleeds trough all the layers as well which is definitely a part of his style.
@@zoltanbacsa5456 well in tokyo ghoul the lines are thicker and clear. In re the line art is really thin and actually amazing because of detail but sometimes its in forms of scribbles. Like if you visit the ending of arima and kaneki's fight in re its almost like he drew them in a rush. Which is possible considering his final note. Line art isnt clear and while its used mostly to depict caos and horror in black and looks amazing, it sometimes looks rough in mostly white panels (which rushing might be the reason its white) like in the end of that fight. I dont know about the colored version tho
For such a talented artist boichi's women are honestly nightmare fuel. Their doll faces and glass eyes haunt me
Yeah, I've never looked at the manga before this video, but even though Doctor Stone looks fun, the anime screenshots of the lead female character make me wretch, she looks like an alien, and unless it's a CLAMP show where everyone looks like that that's a problem
@@BlueScarabGuy You just read sun ken rock
@@BlueScarabGuy Oh she's not even the worst one. The ones on the villain part are... Yikes.
U put the artist of my favorite anime (my hero academia) in the vid!!! Yayyyy
one piece is one of my all-time favorites just because of how unique it is and how out of left field it is from other anime. AND BOY does Eiichiro uses it to his advantage, i can't tell you how different each character design is but the man sure has an imagination for how he can simply make multiple worlds and creatures just for a single series and manage to make them all goofy in a way but different in body and shape. AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE STORIE, a man got skills for keeping up the ideas for this series.
Hmmm no views and 17 likes, I think this make popcross the greatest of all time
Hahahahha WOOOOO!
yee
What I always have liked about oda’s art is his costume design. He really is all over the place.
Thats what im saying. Literally every single character has their own unique clothing that completely fits their character
look at tokyo ghoul:re's art, waaaaay better than his earlier stuff
The art from before has a memorable spunk to it.
Black borders between pannels are for flashback scenes.
Almost every mangaka uses it for that.
Great video dudes, I love it!
