This is a great interview. I loved the discussion of Patrick's motivations for going to Japan and the epistemology of those motivations. Also loved hearing about Starfighter and why they wound it down. I used to work at a startup that was in a similar space to Starfighter/Triplebyte/etc. and a lot of the same forces were at play. Coincidentally, that startup's IP was acquired by CoderPad.

1:07:54 The "clothes machine" bit was a great opener. When I finally got to that part of the interview, it was made even better when neither of you came up with "dryer". Both of you just went ahead with "drying machine" and never looked back.

Thanks for this. I found it both enjoyable and inspirational.

the thing at around 43:00 is CRAZY because that sort of process is exactly the sort of mentality i used when deciding to study computer science in college. and quite a lot of my assumptions and predictions were wrong, not that i regret making those choices

46:57 "this SOUNDS intellectually rigorous... but is actually an 18-20yo cosplaying what he thinks intellectual rigor looks like" YEP that's the next thing i was going to say
