he don't get the front bumper right... that is the problem... just need a minor adjustment... that why that car drop in vaule and never going to go up..
My favorite rear engine 8 cylinder Ferrari of all time. Rear reminds me of a baby Enzo. That's why I have a Spyder. My opinion a more classic design than a 458, 488 and later. I know performance on newer models evolve but who cares. Do you think anyone minds a 250 GTO or a 250 California Spyder are older cars? Absolutely timeless!!
This is one of the reasons I have developed a finer appreciation for GT cars today, as most of the sports cars have become too focused on aggression, windtunnel styling, and excess. GT cars aren't competing by those rules to the same degree, thus the design trends of GT cars tend to age more gracefully. I think many companies and designers could learn from the past 20 years of styling, and tone things down a bit, work back to that sweetspot in design approach that was common 10-15 years ago, and then build upon those same philosophies but with a modern and visionary mindset.

So much fun to have an insight brief on the thoughts and process involved in your projects. This second in a series carries all of the intention and focus of the first one on the MINI. In real time, the embrace of each of these projects seems almost too much to get one's arms around, but to have it presented in this post project reflection is entertaining and quite sublime. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this video Frank. I've had model F430s in my bedroom since 2004, when I was 12. Just bought an F430 recently (first Ferrari), after years of dreaming. If you ever decide to auction off that sketch, please let me know.
I worked for Mclaren on the 12c and P1 whilst Frank was also at Mclaren (way above my pay grade!) he's a real sound and down to earth guy!, very comfortable guy to be around.... not to mention a bit good at what he does!.
Interesting to see that he uses a pen that cannot be erased and never makes a correction, while many of us use a pencil and an eraser to erase. We do a lot of erasures and we are never happy with what we draw.
He's actually correcting as he sketches the outline. You can see him working his lines over and over till he gets what he wants, especially in the front view of the car this is evident. So when it's filled with colour all the "throwaway" lines are covered (ie erased), revealing his near perfect final line. Check out how a graffiti artist starts and finishes a piece as just one example.
You, Marcello Gandini and Ian Callum represent my personal 'Holy Trinity' of car designers. It's a very special thing to hear you talk through your designs and relive them using a humble Bic and a piece of 90gsm printer paper. Thank you for your amazing work and this astonishing channel.
I drove Ian to Walkinshaw’s place in Oxford (1990) when he left Ford. He was trembling when he got out of the car. Leaving Ford was a brave move. IMHO Ian was a far better designer than Frank. The Fiat 500 and Mini are very good (!) but his mid engine cars are horrific.
Thanks to share your knowledge. Shark nose detail was a perfect idea to put F430. This model looks different in real life. Wide body and iconic ferrari taste charms immediately.
One of the coolest videos I have ever seen on youtube. I grew up loving this car and knowing the thought process of the man behind the design makes me appreciate it even more.
I always wanted to be a car designer and must've done hundreds of sketches like this over the years. Unfortunately, that dream never materialized, but this fantastic channel has inspired me to start sketching again, even if just for fun.
All these art knobs using charcoal and talking about the process and inspiration and crap, this guy just whips out a 19 cent black BIC pen and designs one of the most iconic Ferraris ever.
I saw the headline within Google news and head to sub. This is my dream car. The F430 with the Novitech upgrades. I was lucky enough to get a chance to drive a 360 Modena back in my late teens. What a thrill!
I realised about 2/3rds of the way through that I was watching this with a huge smile on my face. Fabulous insight that’s given me an even greater love for my manual F430. I’m going to get a coffee and go and stare at my car for a while. Thanks ❤️
Wow, I'm very happy I found this channel, this is wonderful! Frank, thank you for taking the time to share this with us. It's very enjoyable seeing you draw and hearing you talk about the design.
Im very very impressed again. I like your "evolutionary" way of developing a car design and not just change thins for their own sake. Identify what needs to be improved and finding the solutions not just for the design but for the function. As for many car makers today they seem to brag with design details forgetting the overall function and idea of the car, thus turning car design more to wallpapers for kids.
A privilege to watch. It'd be perhaps good to add, that the door leading-edge shutline curvature is crucial to 'marrying' the DLO with the front fender top curve (partly by encompassing the cabin by replicating the roofline down and forward, in an uninterrupted manner). It is one of the essential, defining geometric 'partnerships' on the 430 that makes it such a sculpturally relevant object. Another peculiar aspect of the 430 is the rear side window shape, which, on a Ferrari, is probably as near as one can get to the basic, 'archetypal' shape of the same element on a 911. Numerous cars have been using many variations of its shape, but it's somewhat strange to see it (even remotely related) on a Ferrari - it was the icing on the cake in my view, as it gives the final result a somewhat unexpected' vibe, yet it's integrated so masterfully that it's almost impossible to decipher/detect. A class act in the sharpest sense of the word. Thank you.
Virtually perfect. Love those side intakes. Front just right. 360 front intakes a little awkward. Rear just a bit busy, but still very nice. Great presentation. Many thanks.
It’s definitely quite fascinating to see especially when I actually saw this car on display at the 2004/2005 annual motor showcase convention in Melbourne Australia and I was only 2-4 years old at the time! There’s even a couple of photos my dad took of me posing happily for the camera in front of this very same Ferrari at the convention and we still have them today so it’s really nostalgic to see the design process behind a car I first saw as a really young kid! :)
F430 was absolutely my favorite ferrari growing up. Perfect balance of grace and aggressive design

Please share, how you designed the McLarenP1 and the Maserati MC12
Thanks to share your knowledge. Shark nose detail was a perfect idea to put F430. This model looks different in real life. Wide body and iconic ferrari taste charms immediately.
Super inspiring video! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
One of the coolest videos I have ever seen on youtube. I grew up loving this car and knowing the thought process of the man behind the design makes me appreciate it even more.
Damn this is dope, can't wait for episode 3!
I was shocked to learn that this down to earth guy had designs my childhood dream… this unbelievably amazing 👏👏👏
Amazing video sir, Big fan of yours thank you for sharing your invaluable experience it is extremely helpful for budding automotive designers like me.
Thanks!
I always wanted to be a car designer and must've done hundreds of sketches like this over the years. Unfortunately, that dream never materialized, but this fantastic channel has inspired me to start sketching again, even if just for fun.
Oh awesome! That's my old F430! M honored!
This/430 Scuderia is my all time favourite Ferrari. Great job designing it, absolutely magnificent
Legend... 😍😍
You designed my favorite Ferrari... Such a beautiful piece of art. Thank you for sharing this with the world, it's absolutely brilliant
All these art knobs using charcoal and talking about the process and inspiration and crap, this guy just whips out a 19 cent black BIC pen and designs one of the most iconic Ferraris ever.
The F430 is probably one of the most beautiful cars designed. I'm grateful that I was recently able to buy an 05 F430. Great video!
Thanks ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have never really been a fan of the front of the f430 but now that I know the historical connection, I appreciate it more.
One of the most beautiful cars ever made. So cool to see how it came to fruition.
Oh yes! Please please PLEASE keep these episodes up. Thanks Frank!
Thank you!
from a Bic and piece of paper to a legendary Car ... u r Genius Sir
Wow, I'm very happy I found this channel, this is wonderful!
Frank, thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
It's very enjoyable seeing you draw and hearing you talk about the design.
Wow what a treat! F430 has been my favorite Ferrari all these years and it still is my dream car. Amazing!
I have an F430, in my opinion one of the best looking road-going Ferarri's ever made. Great video Frank, thanks for sharing.
👍
A privilege to watch.
It'd be perhaps good to add, that the door leading-edge shutline curvature is crucial
to 'marrying' the DLO with the front fender top curve (partly by encompassing the cabin
by replicating the roofline down and forward, in an uninterrupted manner). It is one
of the essential, defining geometric 'partnerships' on the 430 that makes it such
a sculpturally relevant object.
Another peculiar aspect of the 430 is the rear side window shape, which, on a Ferrari,
is probably as near as one can get to the basic, 'archetypal' shape of the same element
on a 911. Numerous cars have been using many variations of its shape, but it's somewhat strange to see it (even remotely related) on a Ferrari - it was the icing on the cake in my view, as it gives the final result a somewhat unexpected' vibe, yet it's integrated so masterfully
that it's almost impossible to decipher/detect. A class act in the sharpest sense of the word.
Thank you.
Absolutely every detail has been considered, love these demonstrations
Everytime I look at my F430 spider I thank you for such a beautiful design! Grazie!
one of the most recognizable ferrari's, its so classic and heart, this is the ferrari I grew up idolizing
One of the most cool/exciting looking supercars for sure. And that sound...and handling...what a car!
Forget the car, Frank’s signature is legendary
