I love your video. I subscribed after watching it. After reading through the comments I now believe you have the patience of a saint. People ask what color the cabinets are and you answer them, then literally someone comes right behind them asking the same question. 😭 So just to reiterate: CABINET COLOR: SW Extra White. Another beautiful option is SW Pure White. AMOUNT OF PRIMER AND PAINT USED? One gallon of each. HOW LONG BETWEEN COATS?: 24 hrs WHAT COLOR GREY IS THE WALL?: SW Repose Grey 😂😂😂

I love the video but I used the SW Extra White and it is too stark white so I went back and want to paint a FOURTH coat of SW Pure White to soften the tone.

@@SX-sv6vo I think they have held up well! There are definitely some chips that show- especially on the lower cabinets which I painted a dark color. But I just need to touch up the chips one of these days- otherwise I love them. It took me 2 months but is worth it when I love how my kitchen looks now. :)

First time watching this "older" video, Yami! We're coming up on the end of an entire first floor re-do, including furniture, flooring, trim, walls, countertops, bathrooms, etc. Just wanted to concur with your wonderful tips for re-doing your cabinets, and join in with the recommendation for using Sherwin Williams Urethane Trim Paint in the Extra White (Semi Gloss). I can't remember where I learned of it, and it's been difficult to get a hold of this past winter ('21 - '22) for some reason, but we've gone through about 10 gallons, and it is HANDS DOWN the best paint for doing cabinets (as well as, of course, your trim work and doors). It takes about 30 days to completely cure (be a bit gentle for the first month), but then the finish is rock hard and nearly indestructible. I was so excited to see you recommend this as well!
Wow! Your tutorial is AMAZING! We spent a lot of money remodeling our kitchen in 2006. Unfortunately, the finish on a few drawers is chipping. I want to paint the cabinets and this video answered all of my questions. Thank you so much for all the valuable information! Love watching your channel.

I had already bought a foam roller (it said it was for cabinets!) but you were right, it totally sucked when I painted over an already painted cabinet but worked great on the unfinished one. I watched the entire video and honestly you have covered everything from A-Z. The cabinets look awesome and while SW primer and paint are high end paint it is so worth it as you are doing it for a reason not to replace or hire a professional. I am thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets and am considering following these steps. By the way, you sold me on the wall color of Repose Gray from SW. I am in love with the color and think the white cabinets came out fantastic.

I just wanted to let you know that you have convinced me to use the exact primer, paint, roller, and brush for my vanity before tackling my kitchen cabinets. I've watched so many tutorials and had to find yours again. I watched it several times. You should get paid by Sherwin Williams because I'm buying their products because of you. I know I would never buy it because I don't think home depot and Lowe's offer it. I just went there to look for SW paints. I've never been to SW store but today that is my errand to do.
Just make sure to go when they are having a sale! 😉
@@TheLatinaNextDoor So I finished my vanity and it looks brand new. I also used Aqua Coat to cover wood grain. Prep work is a lot but it looks professionally done and I'm happy with it.

Great video! Quick question: How have they held up since the job was done? Can you give an update? I would really like to know how the wear of the paint is over time because I don’t want this to be a project I’d have to repeat every year or so lol. This lady knows what's up. Ive done a bathroom cabinet with polycrylic and it looked the same and even chipped in spots (I did a lot of things wrong, lol). I heard from somewhere else about using the enamel trim paint and repainted the cabinet. I got the hgtv sherwin williams kind from lowes and just wow, what a difference. Ill never use anything else for cabinets. I also used a foam brush (from another recommendation, probably on youtube)and I think that helped a lot too. I still made some mistakes (like not filling divets in the wood with filler first and not sanding the holes where the old tp holder went) but it looks 100% better.
We received a $1,900 quote to repaint our cabinets so we will be doing them ourselves ! This helped a lot thank you
I have watched countless tutorials on this, all using different paints. I was waffling between General Finishes milk paint or Rustoleum cabinet kit. You have made up my mind! I got so many good tips out of this video, thank you! Now to watch the SW sales!
I am very happy to hear that!!! I have actually never used a cabinet kit, and I probably never will. The one thing I don't like about them is that they have limited color selections - with this method you can use any color you want.. and you don't have to seal. Good luck on painting on those cabinets!!!! You will do amazing!

I love your channel!! You and your hubby are so helpful. I watched this cabinet painting video like 4 times to make sure I understood what to get n how to do it. I didn't have help... did it while my husband was at work. So let me tell you! I did this on my rolling island in the kitchen n I love the way it came out! I did gel stain the butcher block top on the island n love how it came out n it added a pop of color to my British colonial/west Indies theme kitchen n home. Im actually going to use ur method to help my sister-in-Iaw paint her kitchen cabinets. She had to check out my island first. Lol. Thank you! I appreciate you!!

Hi Ms Latina..I finished a major league project of painting our Kitchen cabinets. I took most of your suggestions to heart and you comments were also adhered to. In other words, I listened carefully to what your video was about.
I am happy to say the cabinets came out beautiful. The paint you suggested was fabulous.
I would like to make a few suggestions that might help other painters.
1. The Sherwin Williams paint store associate suggested to use 2 coats of primer, because the pros that came into the store all do it. I used oil based as you suggested.
2. the 1/4 inch nap that you suggested was fine, but in some cases 3/8 worked better for me. It covered some trouble spots way better than the 1/4 inch.

I painted one of my cabinets with chalk paint which turned out like your laundry room cabinets, which wasn’t bad, but I wanted a more professional look. Excellent, repeat excellent tutorial on this subject. I think I have watched a dozen of them and hands down this is the best. With that said, when I watched it I thought the LEGO idea was genius. So I hopped right over to my daughter’s with the knowledge that I had already purchased 9 years worth of legos for my grandson. Ha! That kiddo has kept every single set I ever bought and he assured me that the set could not be broken up. But Nana has t lived this long to know that is not the case with a lot of little boys. Goodwill to the rescue! Bingo, I know where I am buying all one 10 year old boy’s birthday legos at from now on. J/K.

Questions about the brush/roller cleaning process. You said you clean them with mineral spirits right after the application, so I’m wondering if you do that twice for the primer process, once for each side? And the actual paint, if you paint in the morning, clean your brush, and then paint in the evening, how is your brush not still wet? I feel like I’ve tried that before, I’ve thought the brush was dry and then using it the paint goes on watery. I’ve wrapped my brush instead, like you did with the roller, and it was okay doing multiple coats (painting trim), but eventually it’s not in such good shape.
I’ve used that same paint for trim and love it, so I was also thinking to use it on my cabinets and you’ve definitely convinced me!
Hi...Latina... wanted you to know I followed your advice to the "T" over 2 years ago and my cabinets are doing great. Easy to clean, and was so much less expensive then buying new ones for sure. I do have one question...I'm going to change my cabinet handles on my cabinets and the new ones will require different holes. What should I use to fill the current handle holes and do you have any recommendations on the best procedure? Do I fill the holes before or after cleaning the cabinets? Hello! Thank you for your video! I was looking at the products that you linked, and in the description of the urethane paint it says its “Interior/exterior WATERBASED urethane modified alkyd with the look and feel of an alkyd/oil finish.” Is water based okay to paint on oil based primer?? Obviously you did it and it looks fine, but I guess I just want to make sure I’m buying the right thing before I start, please let me know, I’m going to buy the products and follow your instructions as soon as I can

I want to paint and antique my cabinets. I plan to use your method but wonder about having to seal the antique once it's dry. I know you don't like the poly seal, is there one you would recommend or have any suggestions for sealing an antiquing with the paint you used. Thank you for your time and your super helpful video!

I have bought all this stuff to ensure a professional finish. Fortunately I still had the Sherwin Williams paint I used for my kitchen Island. I bought Kilz primer, Urethane for the top coat, which I don't think I need after watching your video. I stopped the video at least 3 times to pack up some of the stuff I bought to return it and buy what you suggested. I'mm on my way back to Home Depot to exchange those foam rollers, Urethane other stuff. Thanks for your thoroughness. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have to admit, at first I wasn't a fan of the commentary style of this how to video. BUT I hung in there because I am a fan of you, your channel and you didn't let me down! When you got to the paint portion, discussed why you use the brand/formula and then provided a comparison of your preferred method versus the typical method, I was sold. Sherwin Williams owes you money sister. Thanks for a great video!

Such an informative video! Thank you! I’m a total beginner and because I’m on a budget I’m going to do my kitchen cabinets on my own. A couple questions,
1. I’ve read paint can be bought with primer already mixed in. What is your opinion on this? Good idea, bad idea, good idea but not appropriate for cabinets??
2. Are the only advantages of semi-gloss paint that it’s not super shiny and easily wipeable? I love the paint job of your cabinets but they’re still too shiny for my taste. I like a more matte look.
3. If I can use a less shiny paint finish, what do you suggest I ask for?

My husband and I are disagreeing with whether the front of each shelf should or should not be painted. If my memory serves me correctly, you taped in about 1/2 inch inside each shelf. I've tried to find the exact spot numerous times, but can't find it. Do you have a time frame that you discuss taping the insides of the xabinets? Your video has really helped us in our paint decisions and tools to use. Thanks so much!

Excellent tutorial. The best, most thorough I've seen on this topic - and I've seen many dozens. I'm about to engage in my first professional renovation of someone else's property, which has me a little nervous. And I was about to use foam rollers as I've done before but I was surprised that you strongly advise against it. Could you please explain why? Thanks!
I gave cheap cabinets (rental), with no indentations, do I need the brush, if so, where do I use it? Or do I just roll it on? This is the best video for painting I've ever watched. Hubby doesn't want to go to that much work, thinks we should just roll it on, so it looks like I may be doing this myself because I want it done right. Thank you so much for showing what that looks like, I appreciate it and now I have the confidence to do this project.
If you just have a straight panel door, you should be able to just use a roller - a word of caution, when using a roller on the ends make sure you don't have too much paint or press down to hard, but the paint will dry down the sides and leave drip marks. Hope that makes sense.

For those first attempting this process, this is an excellent tutorial. Listen to her carefully and follow her advice to the letter. My fiance is antsy and wanted to rush the process. You CANNOT rush this! The doors must dry for at least a week, and letting them acclimate is an excellent point! I painted mine in the garage during the last two weeks and they still need time to harden. Don't screw up all of your hard work by wanting to rush. Find another job to do in the meantime. I removed the carpeting from my basement steps and washed them for a future painting project this fall/winter.. Great job LND!

In the middle of watching the video I had to subscribe. Love how you explained everything. I just have 2 questions. How many bottles of the M-1 did you used? And if I need to sand my cabinets which one do you recommend. Thanks
A little M-1 goes a long way. I only used one bottle. You can sand by hand or use an orbital sander with fine grit paper.
