You guys novice doesn't mean that they have never done this before. it could be the horses that are novice, or it could just be that they are not over 18 yet.
really? my friends and I have never been told that we had to wear a helmet, I think that I am the only one that wears one most of the time. And we range from 16-18 years old.
Novice or not, inexperienced or not the way these horses are being yanked at the bit, clearly in distress and uncomfortable is disgusting, I love barrel racing amazing sport but when a horse is acting how some of these horses are it’s from discomfort and stress ( mainly caused from bits rubbing, pinching & being yanked) Fallon Taylor who is a world champion barrel racer runs her horses in bitless bridles & hacklemores so I mean 🤷🏻♀️ these girls need to focus more on techniques and horsemanship than speed and times. ☺️
"Novice" in barrel racing doesn't mean you've never done it. In my area, the novice class is for horses that haven't won a set amount of money. In some associations it's $100, some $350, some $500. But we also don't have novice rodeos, just jackpots. We have junior rodeos (19 and under, split into various age groups to make it more fair; around here the 13 year olds are the toughest), open rodeos (otherwise known as amateur rodeos; there's a youth class for 15 and under and everyone else is in the open, just like a jackpot), and pro rodeos.
Not sure how it's done in barrel racing but I know sometimes there are classes for novice horses and another for novice riders. So it's the same skill but in one the horse is being judged and the other it's the rider that is being judged. That makes the most sense to me.
The lady that fell of first is because of her spurs! I don’t want to hate but her horse bucked because of them. When her horse started bucking she kicked him, I don’t know if she was trying to stay on, but I think the reason why he bucked was because of her spurs. Again I’m not trying to hate on anyone I am just saying.
@Nig Biscuit Deserve? Wdym, and I wasn't finished my comment, I was saying people think that's what it's for, I didn't get the chance to finish my comment, and if I finished I was saying tydowns were useless and terrible, so, I suppose you just be a little more kind, I deserve that horse? Um watcha talking bout
@Nig Biscuit It's ok, I'm glad that u think their bad, my friend uses one though... Not sure why her horse is a bit naughty and she's "We're" just kids, so we couldn't really control horses better then a adult, but it's just for safety or something..
I am not trying to hate on anyone in this video but these people may need to work on slow work first to learn to hold there horn, use your outside leg around the barrel, lean back etc... then they can add the speed at a later date in which would be easier for the horse and rider. Now, I have not been riding for to long or been doing rodeo to long but I would say I have come a long way with just some walk and trot work with my horse. I also just would like to add that some of these horses have attitude issues and need to get there head in the right place. I have also learned that if you knock a barrel keep going, you may get a +5 but don’t let one barrel destroy your whole run.** once again I am not hating on anyone in this video I am just saying facts that would help these people do what they want to do as correctly as possible ** ❤️😁🥴🐴
Agreed, that can be a problem in English as well. Some barns want the prestige of winning competitions so bad they push riders too fast. And if you're new to riding you may not realize this is a wrong and dangerous way to do things.
Novice or not, there is NO excuse to YANKING horses in the mouth. Especially the girl that fell off twice on TWO different horses. She was jerking the heck out of those horses. That goes to show that it's the rider's fault 100%. And that attempt at an emergency dismount was probably the dumbest and stupidest choice
The palomino looks extremenly pissed off. These people need to go back to slow work and atleast walk the pattern and work on consistency and not just rely on their reins. Horses should enjoy the pattern not hate it.
the girl on the palmino did not know what she was doing!!! she was spuring her horse and it was trying to buck out of argravation! she was swishing her tail cause she was agervated!
Equine Megan I use split reins at races. Especially when they are still in training with barrels! There’s many people that do it, just depends on the person. I know many that do it, especially trainers :)
Equine Megan Split reins have a purpose, it all depends on the horse and person. I use regular reins and split reins it all just depends. I know many people that just prefer split reins who run high dollar horses and some people who have grade horses that run in split reins. Doesn’t matter. It holds its own purpose, and all just depends on the technicalities of the rider :)
Watching Australians appropriate American culture with barrel racing badly is awful. Those horses look like they're in so much pain from all that hard pulling. Why aren't they better trained to ride these horses the right way?? JFC
Props to that girl who got back on and finished her race after falling off twice! In my mind, that’s a real winner.
I honestly love this so much, its called novice for a reason and its nice seeing people starting on barrels, even if its brutal at first
Everyone commenting remember everyone starts somewhere
MaKayla Williamson didn’t know id fine you here
They should be in the lead line classes
Sissy Dillon off topic but didn’t you send a package to Fallon Taylor and she sent you a helmet?
the one that bucked her off was such a good boy waiting there, he even looked worried as the people ran to assist her.
"So this is what my trainer meant by take it slow"
You guys novice doesn't mean that they have never done this before. it could be the horses that are novice, or it could just be that they are not over 18 yet.
johnna Ott all of them are over 18 most places that you ride at if your under 18 you have to wear a helmet
really? my friends and I have never been told that we had to wear a helmet, I think that I am the only one that wears one most of the time. And we range from 16-18 years old.
oh and novice in most places can also be that they haven't won a race yet or haven't won a set amount of money.
I said most places didn’t I not all places
Novice means the horse is not old enough to race this is just practice for them I know how it goes I barrel race
The horses poor mouths. 😭
Aly Marschall it doesn’t hurt if you have a hackamore which I have 5 horses and use hackamores

Start slow, lose the tydowns and TRAIN for consistency...not speed.... WOW....just WOW
Tydowns are for horses horses who try to rear, THEY Wear them SO they don't REAR
i know! tydowns don’t fix anything, just annoy the horse even worse.
@Nig Biscuit Deserve? Holy crap where are they’re saddle horns?!
This is Australia mate they're call stock saddles 😂 ✌
@@jessicagraf230 or fenders
You can tell that the horse hates it
That girl is so brave for falling off twice and then getting back on and finishing
ottbequestrian09 I know I have risen for three years but if I fell off twice I would want to make sure my horse was ok before I got on
Every arena needs a long exit for horses to run out of after finishing the course! Safety first
I am not trying to hate on anyone in this video but these people may need to work on slow work first to learn to hold there horn, use your outside leg around the barrel, lean back etc... then they can add the speed at a later date in which would be easier for the horse and rider. thank you for posting barrel races this fills my heart because i am not able to be out there myself at the moment
Lol the first gal literally just held on to the horse and then was mad when he came back around
your amazing

Hold ya horse

Novice means beginner rider or horse some place is beginner riders but these people need to slow down to teach there horses how to do the pattern
Novice means beginner horse under 3 or 5 if you are a beginner rider you choose what class you are gonna be in
That ground is awful
Sorry but some of these horses dont seem like they have been worked with on barrels much
the girl on the palmino did not know what she was doing!!! she was spuring her horse and it was trying to buck out of argravation! she was swishing her tail cause she was agervated!
I’m sorry but who uses split reins to barrel race? (6:50)
Equine Megan I use split reins at races. Especially when they are still in training with barrels! There’s many people that do it, just depends on the person. I know many that do it, especially trainers :)
Laura Kay yeah for training but for competing? Kinda pointless

Is this in Australia
Not all rodeos are like this... I haven't seen anything like this before
Non of the horses liked the second barrel
There novice horses
Wait I’m confused what did the first girls horse that made her turn him in circles
Some of these horses really have bad attitudes when they are told to go slower.
Barrel Racer it’s because they are under 5 they aren’t fully trained yet
Why are the horses so untrained
Australians barrel racing what
Watching Australians appropriate American culture with barrel racing badly is awful. Those horses look like they're in so much pain from all that hard pulling. Why aren't they better trained to ride these horses the right way?? JFC
These are the worst run I have ever seen
That's because hey are novice. Read the title.
Everyone starts somewhere ay.. Like it says they're novice.
You weren't watching close enough. There was some real talent in a few of those runs
They are novice, give them a break. Everyone starts somewhere.
Their novice horses
Booooooooo!
