I've got a BMW X5 2005 e53 4.8is, ive converted to LPG, it runs so much better than petrol, I've tinted the windows, 4 new tyres, xtrons head unit, id4motion instrument cluster, my X5 is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. And only 98k miles, super low mileage! And yesterday I upgrade all the rear lights!
@@Thatstherabbit I don’t have it anymore. But the issues that I had was the battery would drain if not driven for a certain of number days. I had the 3.0i and the motor would burn oil. Other than that it was a good SUV. I recommend it.
@@saveyourhero3307I’ve had mine about 3 months everything perfectly fine besides the typical Oil leak , recently I was opening my Sunroof but it ended up not working anymore . Had to manually close it . I’ve read about disconnecting the battery but idk if it will work any suggestions?
Fab cars on and off road. Motorway driving is also superb (with better fuel consumption of course). I have driven it in all weather across UK/Europe: heatwaves, floods, to frost, hail and snow. High speed motorway driving across several countries, plus daily off-road through forests, bogs, deep mud, river crossings and over mountainous rocky terrain. Mine is the 2005 3L Diesel version. I love it! 🙂 I was born in HK by the way.😉
Had the 2001 m54 but after a few e39s in between have picked up a 2005 m57 and loving the better fuel economy and more refined design....a joy to drive
Great review and I just purchased an e53 this past week and hopefully pick it up tomorrow! Pretty excited, only a 2 owner car with 56 service records attached to the VIN with 101k miles. This video makes me even more excited!
Bought a 2006 X5 E53 2yrs ago for $500 USD. It was sitting on a lawn for 9mo, because the owner didn't have the $ for a new rear suspension. I've personally done the suspension, brake lines (partial), new 10" android media player and Cooper AT3 tires. After a good cleaning, she's the prettiest "fishing truck" out there! Great 3rd car "beater" for winter (Gotta keep the 5 series in the garage) 👍
Well I've been playing with the need of buying another BMW and a out two months back thought yeah first gen X5 and I've been watching loads of vids on them the diesel 3.0 Vs 3.0i and I've been swayed from one to another but after watching this vid I'm going with the m54 3.0i and I feel right about it I really much prefer petrol then diesel I've got a e39528i & e60530i so I think the 3.0i X5 seems about right
Nice review. I am now on to my second e53, and as you said, if you get a cheap dog it can have the shirt from your back. My first was an 03 5sp manual 3.0d, finally got all the gremlins out when a 6sp 05 3.0d sport came up. A totally different experience, been a fantastic car. Usual stuff...drop links, calipers sticking etc. But what a car and till feels very contemporary even 15 years on. Subscribed.
Excellent video im from argentina i have one.. 3.0i premium with 70k miles, im enjoying it, i have a used car agency and tested a lot of suv for me is the best if you want to a sportive suv..
love the e53 prefer the steering has more feel to it, as the e70 is electric steering which i dont like as much, the e53 some how has more charactor great video, love hong kong.
I never understood why manufacturers can’t have different steering options like engines? Would make a big difference for a lot of cars to have hydraulic steering.
My father in law bought the 3.0 petrol row 6 y reg so its 2000 . He drived back home from Uk to Hungary :) we do e the service new brakes etc etc he said it was a dream to drive
I like the fuel economy of this x5 when on highway (full tank run 1000km on my 2005 x5 ). But I hate the front suspension control arm system (because it not last).
I'm planning on getting an X5 E53. I heard mixed reviews some saying for one year to another year they are bad, others saying v8 sucks to maintain, others saying the v8 is the best engine to maintain for that series. This would be my first SUV (but not my first BMW) so any tips on what I should look for or stay away? Thanks
Worth to buy old if you like to fix things. Don't buy if you are not handyman. Make sure choose one which oil not leaking underneath. Many old x5 leaking oil because of owner dont change oil under 10,000km regularly. Most of bmw owner service at 20000km due to they believe Long-life oil and too expensive when bring to BMW shop. My x5 2005 e53 3d 6 cylinder engine run greate because of I change oil by myself every 8000km.
I am a bit confused. Just watching videos about e 53 and checking the engine numbers aswell So which one is the best option? M54 or m57? I found some really good option 2004 3.0d low mileage and on really good price
I read that the M57 is good but we didn’t have that option here, only petrol/gas engines. I’ll be in UK next year so will see if I can try the diesel version.
very nice your video, I had a volvo s80 2004 and I crashed, and I loved my volvo very comfortable and fast, but it cost me a lot, and I want to buy a bmw x5 2005 that is in very good condition, it seems to be half as old, but I'm afraid of having serious problems with transmission. Does this happen often, can you tell me?
I've heard of some with some transmission issues but I don't think it's a normal failure on the X5. A 2005 is an 18 year old car so you do need to be careful what you buy. That said I always get auto transmissions serviced as a precaution and the cost is a fraction of what a transmission repair or replacement would be. So calculate that cost as well when you're negotiating for a car.
@@jaykayhk thank you very much for your help, I am very undecided, I already had an old car but it gave me a lot of problems, financing can be a better investment. lol

Best to get the car scanned. Could be battery, alternator, abs sensors, low fluid, etc. Need to see what codes come up. Do you know someone with a diagnostic scanner?
I had the same problem with mine and it was annoying. After trying with changing oil cooler, alternator etc, bought rebuild kit and my mechanic friend did and it is running much better now. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned although it has cost me so much to keep it alive over the past few years. Can’t let it go.
@@michaeldgab999 Good morning and thanks I also had it rebuild but yoh still scared to drive but I will make phone calls to se if I can get someone to come and scan it with a diagnostic the other problems that I also have now is my passenger door can't open not from inside or outside what can I do please help and thank you so much.
@@amandapietersen102 oh those door handles issues are common with the X5 e53. The number of times I had to change the door carrier is insane. I just bought two back door handles as well. Very bad design indeed. Apparently, you are supposed to lift the door handle slightly up before pulling the door open as otherwise it breaks.
I agree, our family has owned a 2002 E53 since new and it has had a lot of problems over the years, PCV breather, door handles, window regulators, front cam sensor, secondary water pump, fuel pump, A/C blower motor, vacuume lines DISA valve, tail lights, tempature sensor have all failed and replaced... once these cars get to 200k miles I would dump it and move on... great engine and transmission otherwise its just everything else that is the problem. If you like to work on your own cars this one will keep you busy, these need a lot of work as they age.
