    Nigerians are extremely intelligent. My daughter is half Nigerian born and raised in America. She visited Nigeria for a month when she was 6 years old. Other than that she has no other contact with Nigeria. She was a straight A student in AP courses. I would wake up at 2am and find her studying. It's genetic not just environmental. Never once did I tell that child to work hard, she does it naturally.

    • @HM-ls5eg
      @HM-ls5eg 8 місяців тому +30

      Genetic, yes.. But she could have been even MORE, through the "environmental effect".... Trust me.. I know.. I live and grew up in the UK, but my parents sent me to boarding school in Nigeria... Compared to the other British born Nigerians in the UK, who've never been to Nigeria, or just have faint memories of visiting as a toddler, people do tell me that my approach to things in general is different, and in a good way... They wouldn't know what to do, if the washing machine broke down suddenly, or if there was a country wide black out, or if you had no hot water for a shower... Would your daughter?? 🤔.... These are just some of the knowledge bestowed upon you, just by being in that environment.... You learn about simple, but yet, important life saving and life preservation skills... Like, eating dry toast (no butter), to stop a seriously upset stomach... That simple... Bet you or your daughter didn't know that!.. Try it sometime... and see for yourself! 🤣.... And there's plenty more too!.. All from being in that environment!🤷🏾‍♂️

    As a Nigerian I won't attack those criticizing us because some of us are actually bad. All I want people to realize is that there are honest Nigerians. I misplaced my phones on many occasions and Nigerians picked them and returned them. My course mate at school misplaced her money and I picked it up and returned it. I was starving at school then but I came from a culture where taking what doesn't belong to you and making it yours is believed to attract poverty, misery and untimely death. Individuals from certain culture in Nigeria are the ones embarrassing us. There are good, honest people in Nigeria and they are more than the bad apples.

    As a Nigerian, Let me break it down! Our country is tough, rough and not for the faint of heart. So we DON'T have a choice but to try our absolute best to rise.
    In a nutshell, we're running away from our collective traumatic experiences and towards a better life.
    Moreso, we are over 250Million crammed in a small location. The competition is REAL and we're eager to prove ourselves and impress others.
    But please note that our accolades, doesn't always translate to peace of mind, happy intimate/interpersonal relationships and emotional stability. We might seem outwardly successful but we really don't have it all which is why you see us in other countries. In fact we have a saying "suffering and smiling" to capture the emotional state of your average Nigerian.

    Yeah... I concur. Currently, I am a Nigerian private school teacher, trained, certified, and professionally licensed in 3 different fields, namely; Education, Computing, and Counselling.
    I can assure you, we don't play with academics. And, I must confess, as a teacher I study as much as I can to stay ahead of my pupils in their learning journey. Recently, I had to master 'Generative A.I' in preparation for the new academic term. The topmost pupil in my class with a Class Average of 99.2% respectfully informed (challenge) me "sir, there is no way you can fail me in any assessment in this class, again." I can smell this child is ready to frustrate my life with cues, questions and counterquestions.
    That is a true Nigerian spirit, it is nowhere near pride nor overconfidence, but self belief, discipline, dedication, and goal orientation.
    The gut of a true Nigerian. We truly believe in ourselves and our abilities. We productively compete for/with almost anyone/anything.
    I wish all Africans can emulate.

    One key reason for the resilience and hardworking spirit of the Nigerian (especially in diaspora) is our communal nature. The typical Nigerian comes from a large family, so when one gets the opportunity to "seek greener pastures" abroad, you have the weight of that large family on your shoulders. And, it's not just figuratively, because, on week after you leave the country, you'd get a call from some distant relative from home, narrating his ordeal and pleading for help cos he believes you're now rich.
    Travelling abroad comes with so much responsibility as a Nigerian. You just know you can't afford to fail. Besides, we are, somewhat, a proud people. You can't have left your country (usually with much buzz) only to return same way you left or worse. For most people in the world, success is a choice; for us, Nigerians, it is a MUST.

    You did your research well. Let me add something else that makes Nigerians stand out. We don't see poverty as a cage but rather as a challenge to be overcome. The poorest mother in Nigeria wakes up early and takes her children to the best affordable school in her area. If you are in a state called Akwa Ibom, you see hope, courage, resilience and laughter in the faces of young children hawkiing goods after school. They are always clean in affordable good clothes. They dont feel inferior to anyone. We hate inferiority complex and people who wear sorrow on their faces. Dont also forget that we pray a lot. We are very spiritual and dear to God's heart.❤ Nobody should envy us when we emerge as the United States of Africa in technology very soon. We are Unstoppable. Skin colour is no hindrance.

Every weekend i need to do the jobs to ensure i get money for my textbook and pen and school fees. #300 naira was the payment, i scale through university in the same manner. I graduated as microbiologist, Now i am a software engineer, into business and also tutoring. There was a necessity for me to grow so i can adapt to any situation, i saw it as normal then untill now that i see how many people struggle to make ends meet because they cant work or navigate there way through some stages of life. Although it is not by my power i did something in the past, God helped me. Because then, i fast almost everyday of the week because there was no much to eat. It is not easy to be Nigerian. God bless us.
