The Sant Andreu Big band jazz arrangement does not get better than this. Andrea Motis, Ricard Gili and Wycliffe Gordon really make this number swing. In my opinion, Joan is a genius in finding young jazz musicians. Best rendition ever.

Andrea and Ricard have some history of singing and playing this song together: 2009 Casa Fuster (maybe my first youtube encounter with SAJB, last year), 2010 in Casinet Hostafrancs, but this one takes the cake! Not only do they sing and play perfectly, each and both. Have you noticed Andrea's finger scat after 2:01? Wycliff is top, the band is top, from the intro (hear Magali!), in all the licks and the speedy intermezzo by the sax section (4:04). Last but not least, the princess of syncopation almost succeeds to bring it to a halt (4:56), then sings the last soprano(?) sax phrase.

I'm afraid to disagree: It's his four chorus routine "as usual", compare 2009. Joan approves it before (1:45), Andrea smiles knowingly, and she prepares for her "finger scat" at 2:02.
Singing is a poor imitation of New Orleans style...horns r great tho..

Fantástica grabación de hace justo 10 años, donde podemos admirar a una jovencísima (16 añitos) Andrea Motis, todavía con voz de adolescente, casi de niña, pero con un talento, desparpajo y madurez que ya anticipaba claramente en lo que se convertiría muy poco después. Y tocando el saxo, que ni siquiera es su mejor instrumento (es una trompetista excepcional).
Compartiendo escenario con ella, dos monstruos del jazz como Wycliffe Gordon y Ricard Gili, increíble en esa imitación del mismísimo Louis Armstrong. Y por supuesto el maestro Chamorro dirigiendo a toda la chavalería de la SAJB, repleta de nombres que hoy ya vuelan solos y muy alto: Alba Armengou, Marc Martín, Joan Martí, Carla Motis ...
El enésimo video de estos genios a atesorar y disfrutarlo todos los días.
[ Por cierto, a Ricard Gili le vi en directo en el que creo recordar fue mi primer concierto de jazz, al frente de la mítica banda "La Locomotora Negra" ... hace ya más de 40 años. Como pasa el tiempo ]
