Growing up in Louisiana, we often made Beignets out of biscuit dough. We would quarter them into triangles, fry the raw dough, and cover one side with powdered sugar. So very good.
Did you make biscuit dough just like this or use the pre-packaged stuff? I ask because I sort of imagine that the pre-packaged stuff might work better. I actually have never had biscuits out of those refrigerated cylinder packages, however when I watched this video, I wondered how the "bronuts" would be after they cooled. Biscuits are typically made with solid fat (butter) so when they cool, they often kind of suck. However, the pre-packaged stuff is probably made with some sort of industrial fat concoction that likely maintains a better texture at room temperature.
We did it both ways, but more often from scratch. Both come out really tasty. The only thing I wouldn't recommend ever frying would be frozen biscuit dough.
I started making these 40 years ago. I used "pop-can" biscuits though, but the results were still quite good. Hand made biscuits are always better no matter what. but the store bought biscuits in a can work just fine for those less astute on dough. :)
I must thank you for teaching me how to cook a turkey for my family all those years ago! We have been eating happily ever since! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made this and they are AMAZING. You can generally use any biscuit recipe so give it a shot! The salty/savory aspect of the biscuit with the sweet glaze, plus being deep fried, is awesome.
I liked learning the science of what does what, how and why from good eats. Knowing what a certain ingredient does to food is important and the way you showed it was highly entertaining! Good Eats for life!!!!!
Awesome as always. After seeing your grilled cheese video, I started experimenting with herbs and spices on my grilled cheese sandwiches. I can never do without them anymore. Thanks so much for inspiring me!
I love seeing this comment because that's exactly what he did! New good eats came about even though COVID killed it. And his UA-cam channel blew up! He posts all the time these days
I wish Alton Brown would do something like good eats again because he is such a good cook and he is very entertaining if he is reading this thank you for all of your great wholesome shows and thank you for inspiring me to wanna be a great cook with great skills taught to me by Alton Brown #BroNuts
I wish everyone would stop mentioning good eats and just recognize what an incredible chef this man is. I mean the show was great but I'm just happy he's still around, making nice UA-cam videos, sabotaging people's hopes and dreams on national television with an easy bake oven. ah yes... An amazing chef.
While the audio quality is subpar I can still hear Alton just fine over the background music, maybe shop somewhere other than the dollar store for your speakers/headphones.
Wow. I do similar with the dollar envelopes of pizza dough. Prep the dough as directed adding a tsp of confection sugar. Heat about an inch of oil and drop by batter by tsp into oil. Flip once for even gbd. Drain and toss in convection sugar My step son named it "popcorn doughnuts"
I did this very same thing with Hardee’s buttermilk biscuits back in 1983. Everybody thought I was nuts for frying a biscuit and rolling it in the apple pie cinnamon sugar but they sure did like the .
My mom used to make these for breakfast on birthdays/holidays! I remember being woke up early in the morning to the smells of bonuts, (although she just called them donuts and didn't tell me they were made from biscuit dough until much later) hash browns, and sizzling bacon. Dang it I need to go call my mom and tell her I love her real quick.
AB glad to see you're back to doing what you do best.Cooking, humor and education all in one.Loved Good Eats ,Feasting on Asphalt and Feasting on Waves.Regular TV has gone to crap. Look forward to new show .
When we were kids, my mother would make these out of the Pillsbury Biscuits for a quick donut (bonut, discuit, doscuit, bisnut, whatever) fix. She would just toss them in powdered sugar or regular sugar.
Hi AB! I LOVED Good Eats. I'm a bit of a science buff and your "mad scientists" view of cooking gave you a nich of your own amongst us geeks. please keep up your entertaining take on cookery.
We used to do this at Boy Scout camp with canned biscuits. After cooling slightly, drop the "Bronuts" in a brown paper sack with some cinnamon sugar and shake for an easy breakfast treat.
Love Alton Brown! ..but..... My father used to make these years ago when I was about 6-7? I am 45 now..so yeah not new lol.but used to love when he made them and put cinnamon sugar on them.. then we would take the leftover dough and roll it out and make elephant ears! Yum!
My Momma did this with her biscuit dough recipe. Watching this episode made me think of her. Totally off this subject, my family and I ❤️ Cutthroat Kitchen!!!!
grew up with my mom making these with canned dough,,,,,,,,,,,,, yum,, thanks for reminding me to make some of these. P.S. they are great with cinnamon and sugar too!
Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats!
A+, Wonderful fun recipe, thanks so much. This was a great pick-me-up while we are self isolating re COVID-19 and trying to make the most of the ingredients on hand. Take care
@@MoosaIslamic It's a different flavor and slightly different texture than regular cake donuts. I would personally add more salt to mine next time, but you might even like a little sugar instead. My recommendation above all is to just make donut holes, Alton was right, they are so, so delicious.
Worked at McDonalds back when they used to mix the and make the bisquits themselves. We'd make two discs of dough, pour the honey(back when you could get honey with your nuggets) in the center of one disc, and sandwich it with the other disc, crimping the sides. We'd fry it in the cleanest fryer vat. Deelish.
Those look amazing. Aside from the glaze, no extra sweetening? I wonder if a tiny bit of nutmeg would be a good addition. Or do they not need it at all?
I would add protein powder into the dough and pre-workout mix into the glaze for the true "bronut"
munashiinatsuo and be sure to ask it, "do you even lift?" before dropping it into the oil to fry
Sounds like a good post leg day snack.
Radical!
munashiinatsuo Don't forget to add your own "glaze" for that extra brotein boost.
MORE PROTEIN
This makes me miss Good Eats so incredibly much.....
HELL YES MY FAV SHOW! All Tv has gone to reality/competitive BS, and i have to come on youtube to watch good quality chef to camera style shows now!
I should really read comments before making my own
There's been rumors bouncing around of a new Good Eats in the works.
It's about time! It was the only good cooking show left on television. I've tweaked the biscuit recipe a bit to make them more like Hardees. Yum!
I remember watching good eats with my grandma. that's what's gotten me into cooking. so I'd really love it if it came back.
Growing up in Louisiana, we often made Beignets out of biscuit dough. We would quarter them into triangles, fry the raw dough, and cover one side with powdered sugar. So very good.

good eats needs to come back
Ok I have to ask. What is with everyone using one letter with one color in their UA-cam icon?
it's the initial letter of the user name so I guess it's the new default avatar instead of the little blue head?
+PinkPonyOfPrey on my phone it's the head my computer it's the letter
It is
magicamadeye ikr
Bring back good eats pls. We all miss you on TV.
Good Eats is now on Netflix. ;)
zenfrodo only the 3rd season though :(
Not in Canada :(
ShopTalk I just record it whenever it's on food network
Reboot of Good Eats...coming 2018!!!
I started making these 40 years ago. I used "pop-can" biscuits though, but the results were still quite good. Hand made biscuits are always better no matter what. but the store bought biscuits in a can work just fine for those less astute on dough. :)
I so miss this, Alton. You're the best!
These are really good if you add a bit of orange zest and cinnamon to the dough then fry and glaze as normal.
Thanks for making another standalone culinary video. Would love to see more like this and the Grilled grilled cheese video
I must thank you for teaching me how to cook a turkey for my family all those years ago! We have been eating happily ever since! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please make more videos like this. Or just bring back good eats. Or I'd even settle for the ingredients that changed the world show.
Right, if you do videos like this, I will watch a full 30-second ad each time!
+Michael lol! The whole 30 seconds. No skipping for Alton Brown fans.
ALTON! When you're done with your live touring, please throw yourself full on into your UA-cam channel! I need your weekly cooking genius in my life.
Made this and they are AMAZING. You can generally use any biscuit recipe so give it a shot! The salty/savory aspect of the biscuit with the sweet glaze, plus being deep fried, is awesome.
Must. Try. Tonight.
Ayyyyyye cigar obsession a man of culture with the Alton brown
I love the way you explain the instructions in the recipes, it's easy to follow and I like how you give reasons for the ingredients you chose
I liked learning the science of what does what, how and why from good eats. Knowing what a certain ingredient does to food is important and the way you showed it was highly entertaining! Good Eats for life!!!!!
It's great to see you back in the kitchen working on new applications... or recipes, AB. #goodeats
Awesome as always. After seeing your grilled cheese video, I started experimenting with herbs and spices on my grilled cheese sandwiches. I can never do without them anymore. Thanks so much for inspiring me!
I have a question, would the leftover centers be considering bonut holes or just mini biscuits?
Bronut holes, duh.
@Willem DaFuckedUp what even happened?
Bro-nuggets?
they'd be called buttholes. b-holes.
Bisnuts.
This is pretty much how I've made donuts at home for a long time, except the glaze which looks lovely
What about a "Discuit"
or Dumpling.....
i think discuit is worse than bronut...
I immediately thought of Discuit too.
How about Discnutz
Tsmith183 I'd vote for Discnutz #Discnutz2016
I know you're an extremely busy man but I'm gonna need you to do a whole lot more of these youtube videos. Thank you sir.
I love seeing this comment because that's exactly what he did! New good eats came about even though COVID killed it. And his UA-cam channel blew up! He posts all the time these days

I remember the days when I worked at an bojangles. I used to use some of the left over biscuit dough and made cinnamon doughnuts
I use to make these when my kids were in boy scouts on camping trips. These are great.
Alton Brown is a like the mad scientist of cooks. He even looks the part pretty well on top.
Good Eats was without a doubt the greatest cooking/science show ever.
Alton brown is one of my favorite chefs
Been so long since a new recipe video. Thanks, AB.
Valkyria fan?
Yep (one of my favorite games from the last console gen). Also loved Skies of Arcadia.
I really miss Good Eats :(
He's working on it. Not that specific show, but something very close on another network/venue.
It's back!
"I need some private time. " You heard the man give him some space everybody out.
He needs to go have a bronut
I'll give him his space, and another subscriber.
Wish you would upload more Alton! Good stuff.
I am not going to make this. But I am still going to watch this. Because Alton Brown.
Classic. Bronuts before donuts... Love it.
Thank you! Miss Good Eats!
Alton, I like your other shows BUT there is a Good Eats hole in my heart!
A Good Eats-shaped hole in your Good Eats-shaped heart
warpatato that's about right.
Fill it with a bronut hole
Are they both the same size? This looks bad.
Krusty Kraken well I can tell you it _feels_ bad...
You know I bet these are heavenly with a honey glaze
mmm.. lousy sound, and with the background music to make it worse...
Can't bearably hear alton....
Sounds and... looks like it was shot on someone's phone.
Your life must be so hard
While the audio quality is subpar I can still hear Alton just fine over the background music, maybe shop somewhere other than the dollar store for your speakers/headphones.
I heard every word!
Your ears must be broken
Wow. I do similar with the dollar envelopes of pizza dough.

I love his biscuit recipe! Perfect every time!!! ❤
This should be interesting 😊
dude... WHAT IS THAT SOUNDTRACK? I am loving it!

How did they taste compared to actually donuts? I've never heard of this but it sounds delicious.
Used to fry biscuits back in the day in Louisiana. They were chin-dripping deliscious.
Looks Delicious Mr. Alton, I'll try to get the same ingredients here in Tampico. Thanks for sharing. 😀👍😃
We used to make these when I was in boy scouts. Tossed in cinnamon sugar they are also amazing.
Alton will forever be the GOAT
We made these when I was a kid but out of canned dough. We then shook them in bags of cinnamon sugar and they were soo good.
Excellent suggestion! Sunday morning treat for sure...
So happy my neighbor left me their fry-a-lator when they moved! Now I *HAVE* to make these!
What an awesome idea! I prefer things that are savory, or at the very least, less sweet, so donuts made from biscuits are a fantastic idea.
AB glad to see you're back to doing what you do best.Cooking, humor and education all in one.Loved Good Eats ,Feasting on Asphalt and Feasting on Waves.Regular TV has gone to crap. Look forward to new show .
Alton Brown is my spirit animal.
Oh this is amazing. Alton is like the Rainn Wilson of the food world. Also, someone tell Bo Burnham that his Bonuts are a reality.
I used to make these with my grandmother. except we'd cover them with a mix of cinnamon and powdered sugar.
I like the way you think.
Anxiously awaiting the follow-up...honuts.
This is how we made donuts in boy scouts 20 years ago. We used the biscut dough from a cardboard tube though. They were awesome
ur awesome alton. i love your personality
When we were kids, my mother would make these out of the Pillsbury Biscuits for a quick donut (bonut, discuit, doscuit, bisnut, whatever) fix. She would just toss them in powdered sugar or regular sugar.
Pretty sure these are also a mainstay at every Chinese buffet ever haha

You're fantastic Alton Brown
I miss watching you every day after school!
and that... gets a favorite spot. Thanks Alton.
We used to do this at Boy Scout camp with canned biscuits. After cooling slightly, drop the "Bronuts" in a brown paper sack with some cinnamon sugar and shake for an easy breakfast treat.
I made these in cooking class once...oh my god, it's a physical pleasure to eat them
Love Alton Brown! ..but..... My father used to make these years ago when I was about 6-7? I am 45 now..so yeah not new lol.but used to love when he made them and put cinnamon sugar on them.. then we would take the leftover dough and roll it out and make elephant ears! Yum!
If you're ever in Nashville, there's a place in the Gulch called Biscuit Love that has Bonuts on the menu. They're pretty fantastic.
The best TV chef!
I've made them, they're heavenly. Best thing I fried that day while experimenting 👍
I love Alton Brown's videos
Masterful editing. Signature good eats.
Please do more videos like this, I really enjoy them.👍
My Momma did this with her biscuit dough recipe. Watching this episode made me think of her. Totally off this subject, my family and I ❤️ Cutthroat Kitchen!!!!
THIS LOOKS SO GOOD
YOU'RE AMAZING, ALTON AND CO
Alton Brown is the best and the only reason I watch food network
Do you leave them in until they are Alton Brown?
This is brilliant!! Totally reminds me of the donuts at Chinese buffets
i think Alton Brown is a pretty cool guy. He makes the recipes and doesn't afraid of anything.
Lovely timing. I just saw "The Dough Also Rises" episode of Good Eats yesterday.
In case anyone was wondering, the music is "Mining by Moonlight" by Kevin MacLeod. :)
Love the evolution from Bonut to Bronut.
grew up with my mom making these with canned dough,,,,,,,,,,,,, yum,, thanks for reminding me to make some of these. P.S. they are great with cinnamon and sugar too!
Took me a sec to realize it was a towel on the side of Alton, at first glance just thought he had hips for days lol
You're so good at this, you should have your own show. like, not cutthroat kitchen, something where you're cooking rather than hosting.
am I the only one who thinks "Boner + Nuts" when Alton says "Bonuts"? or do I just have a sick mind?!?! lol 😂
you'll need to get yourself checked out
you're a sicko my man, I agree with KiolBu
Ain't nothing wrong with what goes on between consenting adults and a consenting donut.
i like your thinking
just make sure it's not a yeast leavened donut....
Awesome! glad to see you evolve to UA-cam.
OMG this man is a genius! I have to try these...
That ending was adorable
I am going to make this sometime. Looks great.
Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats! Bring back Good Eats!
what a throwback
A+, Wonderful fun recipe, thanks so much. This was a great pick-me-up while we are self isolating re COVID-19 and trying to make the most of the ingredients on hand.
Take care
Taste better than donuts or nah?

Thanks Alan.

Too funny. In around 1960, we made donuts from canned biscuits in Girl Scouts.
Most Chinese American restaurants do this
Those look amazing. Aside from the glaze, no extra sweetening? I wonder if a tiny bit of nutmeg would be a good addition. Or do they not need it at all?
my great grandmother made doughnuts the same way, frying biscuit dough... she called them donuts.
Game changer .. we make your biscuits often.
