I have a Solex 3800, which does right around 20 mph (32 kmh) and I'm happy with that. A regular 49cc moped like a Puch or Tomos with do 30 mph, and a 49cc scooter will reach very close to 40 mph. The Solex engine is not highly stressed, and I'm quite happy with it purring along at 20 mph. It's a nice leisurely ride, and the engine will last a long time. The more power you try to squeeze out of the engine, the shorter the engines life will be.
I can remember watching a bunch of Velosolexes come off a cross-Channel ferry from France in the 1970s, all with riders carrying camping equipment and luggage in rucksacks, presumably beginning a two wheel tour of England.
@@SeasideGarage Yeah kind of shitty weather right now 😊 37? Okay i thougjt more like 45+ Im making a full restoration of a 3800 and the same performance pack is coming on.
Hi again 😊 Have you made the video of have it runs now? Can't seem to find it. As i wrote earlyer i have put on the same package. Im strongling with getting it to run right. I think the problem is to find the right mixture of air and gasolin
I modified mine back in 73. Got it up to 50 mph before blowing up the bearings. Shave the bottom skirt of the piston. Widen intake/exhaust ports. Muffler is extremely restrictive.
I have searched through your videos but cant seem to find the speed run on this engine. Did you get time for that video? If not could you tell me how it worked?thx.
challange accepted! lets have a solex race next year :) Once again a great video! nice setup. thanks for sharing 2 things i'd recomment: 1) the original piston pins have a very tight fit. but with a little heat, they will slide in and out very easily 2) i do always deburr the piston (and the cylinder if possible) with a sharp blade oder small file. chamfering the sharp edges of the ports will reduce wear a lot i cant wait to see this one run. will it pass 40 km/h?
Buddy, what you still need most though, is a tuned chamber two stroke pipe. 😁 Question? Is it just me, or are there needle bearings in the small end, instead of a bushing?
@@SeasideGarage Well, that would make a really cool video.....building a small circuit-type chamber pipe for your racing Solex.... 😎 ...Good work Solex, for including bearings in the small end, right from the start!
@@SeasideGarage I sold mine last weekend. But, to the son of an dear old friend and he wants to partially restore it, brakes, tires and so on and later fully restore it. I got the original paperwork from 1977 and that makes the Velosolex quite expensive.

Can't wait to hear it running...👍Are the tuningparts Italian made? Didn't even knew there were tuningkits for the Velo's, how cool is that.. 😀
Pretty sure it is french made actually :)
Been a long time since I last saw the old BP green shield logo, these days it's a flowery thing as though that makes them look "greener"... :P
Hehe.... that was another kind of green... ;)

Hi would you be so kind and tell me where to buy these parts?
I own a Velosolex 3800 from 1977 and I really like your reserve tank. :) May I ask you, what tires do you recommend?
I just buy tires from Cafe solex :)
The reserve tank is really useful... especially when you install the performance pack... It uses a lot of fuel!
