There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself, like the dermatologist said sunscreen, moisturizer, and cleanser is all you really need (along with water and eating healthy). The problem is that all these harsh chemicals that aren’t exactly necessary are being marketed towards young children and could harm their skin.
@yourprobablychronicallyonline I agree with you most of the kids want them cause there trendy. But I want to take care of my self not cause its trendy
as a person who was once a child with hyperpigmentation (mine ended up not being fixable and due to an allergic reaction from facemasks at a young age) overuse of products gave me the condition and overuse of products didn’t fix it, wash your face, use spf and visit a dermatology clinic if you need it, anything more than that and you really don’t know if that “gentle cleanser” from Sephora could leave you w an allergic reaction or chemical burn, these products are not made for younger, thinner skin more susceptible to this problem.
@yourprobablychronicallyonline this is so true. I can relate myself with buying products because of what they look like, but this stuff helps me since I have certain skin issues. I would be very concerned if a kid under the age of 13 is using a PORE TIGHTENER. I would say if they’re under 13 be concerned, but if not please don’t be arguing unless we’re using retinol!
not really. kids just have access to young influencers and skin care education, which captures their attention. whatever is marketed towards 20 something will appeal to teens and pre-teens.
Okay, this is the sign to keep your kids away from gadgets. Not only will they be insecure of their skin at such a young age, they might ruin it for the products are not meant for their young skin or they didn't did enough research on the product which may lead to irritation, hyper pigmentation, acne, and etc. The only skincare they need is a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. And all three should be from gentle brands, such as cerave, cetaphil, and la roche. Not the high end brands please
Do kids even have bad adolescent skin these days? I’m seriously asking. I remember growing up with many kids with horrible complexions, with acne covering their teen faces. I don’t even see a kid with two pimples now.
Skin care is not only for when you got bad skin though. Cleansing moisturizing and putting on sunscreen are basics everyone should be doing. Some people just don't 😊
@@funnyvalentinesglorioushai2227 I definitely agree with you. Cleansing, moisturizing, and wearing sunscreen should be the basics for everyone. But in most cases, they're not using gentle brands or brands specifically for young skin. They're interested in glow recipe, drunk elephant, or high-end brands that are targeted at adults and may be using harsher ingredients :(
Sweetie skincare isn’t only for when you have bad skin days…..it’s more just about wanting to take care of yourself. It’s the same thing as washing your body in the shower or bath. It’s not specifically just for cleaning off any dirt and germs from the day…..it’s also about taking the time to take care of yourself and practice good hygiene. I’d rather not be around someone who chooses to only take care of the self when they’re “dirty” you should always wanna take care of your face and body regardless.
The fact that I’ve seen literal 9 year olds asking for PORE TIGHTNERS, for Christmas is disgusting. Social media and these companies are definitely targetting kids and anyone who says otherwise even after seeing this is lying to themselves… These kids should be playing with dolls and going outside, not asking their mothers for ULTA beauty and DIOR brand makeup and making fun of their peers for not doing so….god save us lol.
I follow a sub on Reddit dedicated to skincare, and the amount of people posting photos of their completely normal skin texture asking "how do I fix this?" is really sad. So many people are brainwashed into thinking having pores is bad, and that the only way to be beautiful is for your skin to be blurred out, because of all the filters and false advertising from influencers on TikTok and Instagram.
lol I started shaving my legs at 9 years old. I remember self-consciousness started to develop around that time. it's not that unusual for girls of that age to start developing self-consciousness about their appearance. it's just nowadays we have more information and an abundance of education on skin-care so of course kids will tap Into this. it's not good however it's not that outlandish.
@@Boxxxxxxxxx uh yes I know.. im a woman and ive gone through the same thing. What did I ever say in this was outlandish? Theres videos of kids asking for extreme skin care for Christmas gifts, and of course girls get self concious around these ages when they’re constantly being made that way by others. My point is that it’s worse now because of access to social media pushing it further. I never said that kids shouldnt be practicing basic skin care, i said that it’s bad for social media to be pushing more insecurities onto youth only to then be pushing ads and influencers as their answers in order to gain money, not to be rude but you very much misread what I said.
@@ItsJohnnyManno cause idk where these kids are coming from? My little 9 year old sister is very normal and plays with dolls and her favorite store is claries😭I mean it might be bc she dosent have tiktok and is only allowed to watch UA-cam kids
If your kid is asking for this type of stuff maybe you can finally see that you should parent and ban them from social media. There’s gonna be even more companies and even weird people.. targeting their VERY impressionable brains

Certain ads and companies should be targeting specific audiences. I'm 26 and may have been targeted with ads that may not be fit for me but the things I am interested in trying, I'm old enough to. If an ad interests me, I'll keep watching and be like, "this is cool. I'd like to try it." and others I'm like, "yeah not interested" lol
as a gen z, i use skincare cause i have oily skin and is acne prone. I genuinely DO NOT recommend kids with 0 skin issues to use drunk elephant. IMO, I feel like if your skin is clear and basically like a baby’s skin, DO NOT MESS IT UP!! Cause it is clear that you don’t need it. I personally did extensive research on the skincare i use. I only use toner, serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen, from korean brands that use natural ingredients (that is also known to be safe for all ages). Please, as a gen z, PLEASE do not use adult skincare products cause they are not good for your skin. If you were going to use skincare, please do your research on the product(s) you want. under 10 - water / maybe facewash (depends)& sunscreen, tweens - facewash (+ maybe other stuff depending on your age)& sunscreen, if you/your parents think you shouldn’t use/get something, take their word for it.
ABSOLUTELY! My face is extremely oily and I’ve been experiencing lots of breakouts that require skincare. I try to keep things minimal too. When I see 7 year olds wanting Drunk Elephant, Glow Recipe, and other brands that are unnecessary, I’m so baffled! If they didn’t have a phone shoved in their faces, no kid their age would want it! I wonder what the effects of using such strong products on the WRONG skin will be over time.
i didn't start using skincare until i was 13- and that was only because i felt i had to after watching videos on youtube (i wasn't allowed internet access until that age and only got it because i got a new phone right before COVID)
i actually started using skincare at 11 because i have really bad eczema (it improved with age and was almost gone in 2 years ), but i wasn’t using retinol or pore tighteners and still don’t
Exactly! But I do have to admit as a 14 year old, i have very huge pores so I occasionally use a tiny bit of the glow recipe toner on my nose and where my pores are very large.
They are going to tho. Because they want their kids to be distracted by the phone so they don't have to take care of them. Basically they found the perfect way to turn them into a silent plant in the corner.
@@hermioneee___ Aw thank you! 🥰 I'm sure you could do it if you really wanted to! Have a great day too! 😊 Thanks for your sweet message. Wingardium leviosa! 🪄
So glad that my 7 year old sister is asking for Barbie’s, doll houses, toys etc. instead of skincare. I’ve seen many parents letting there kids as young as 6 use skincare. All they need is water and chapstick…
There is a difference between playing around and having fun, taking care of yourself, in contrast to completely dumping trending junk on your face, for no reason. I’m 13 btw and I just started getting into skincare, and even now I only use products that will actually help me, not just trendy stuff.
skincare ‘trends’ are awful just because it’s like choosing products as if they’re one size fits all when they’re not. my skin got so much better once i switched to just face wash, moisturizer, and spf because it turns out having an extensive skincare routine with a lot of different products (like in those “aesthetic” videos) can ruin your moisture barrier.
yeah i agree i was 13 when i started doing skincare and it was and is still as simple as cleanser moisturizer and spf. i just missed this whole skincare trend by 2-3 years 😂 and im glad for it. and the thing is for me whenever i see these young girls obsessed with skincare i think of a video i saw of a girl sharing her story how her skincare obsession when she was 12 turned into makeup and lashes by 16-17. i know that is normalized in our world now but the need to do makeup and lashes everyday comes from a place of insecurity more than anything nowadays. and its just sad that they are exposed to the beauty industry so early and the pressures of tiktok insecurity trends and so on. it’s really unfortunate, i just hope their story doesn’t evolve into a bigger issue like the girl.
I completely agree with not letting young kids with perfectly healthy skin invest in harsh skincare. If your skin is normal there is absolutely no need to add harsh products to your face. I personally started developing acne from a very young age due to puberty and genetics. I didn’t do anything to treat it for a few years because it was very mild, but after it continuously got worse and more severe I visited a dermatologist and started cleansing regularly and adding some prescribed skincare products which has helped dramatically. If your kid has acne it’s most likely due to hormones and I recommend waiting it out and if that doesn’t work visit a dermatologist. If your child has little to no issues and still asks you for skincare help them be more confident in their skin and remind them to let their skin breathe. This could be caused by insecurities, wanting to fit in, or desires to be more mature, which is really important to address to your child. Treat them with love and acceptance while showing them the importance of enjoying your youth!❤
i’m 14 and i use skincare because i have combination skin and acne. i use: -cetaphil face wash -toner -dermatologist prescribed acne cream -moisturizer
im 13 and i use some skincare cuz my skin is sensitive. i use: -cerave facial wash -moisturizer -lotion -lip balm/chapstick -sunscreen (when its hot and im going out)
@@rainbowunicorngirl2187this is regular hygiene tho. 11 year olds dont need drunk elephant and retinols. I only use a moisturizer, sunscreen and cleanser
ikr like i see all these gen alphas in sephora and lululemon and i’m js still shopping at hot topic like bro pls act your age and enjoy your childhood while it lasts 😭
parents are complaining yet they go out of their way to ALLOW these children to buy these products. its not that hard to watch what your children buy online and simply say NO!
The problem here is over consumption and dreaming to try brands which are supposed to be marketed to adult women. For these tweens, basic cleanser, toners, moisturizer and SPF from la Roche posay, Avene, Cetaphil etc.... is highly enough.
When I was 10 my mom taught me to start washing my face with something other than soap and water. It made me feel good about myself, it was a right of passage into tweenhood. And this self care has served me well throughout my life. But it was about learning a healthy skin routine. There was nothing peer pressure, nothing "something is wrong with you if you don't use it." And yes, this was before the world of social media we live in today. It was one product from a local store. There's such a balance to strike. I don't think it should be all or nothing. Allowing our children to enjoy themselves while also teaching them that these products and the influencers selling them, are all about this billion dollar industry that has nothing to do with proper skin care. It has to do with making money even if that means making you feel badly about yourself if you don't have the products. So, help your child find something that works for their skin and makes them feel good because everyone's skin is different. Teach them to educate themselves about the environment and on skin care instead of just following the latest trends which are not always the best and pull back on social media viewing that teaches them to follow instead of think for themselves.
@@Beanboi2225 That's exactly what my point was. When tweens are taught about proper skin care and about taking care of themselves instead of taking care of the latest trends, they will understand that there's no need for these expensive and often unhealthy skin treatments.
No we are talking about literal 6,7,8,9,10 year olds who’s skin is baby like. That’s what is concerning not the 12+ kids that start having acne and stuff.. we’re mad about 6 YEAR OLDS being introduced to this stuff
The kids are not to blame. Parents are literally the ones buying these things for them. I think its more of a way for parents to show off what they can get their kids (also when it comes to stanley's, uggs, ect). This issue is about vanity, consumerism, and the glorification of social media.
I have extremely dry skin, so I just use a cleanser, moisturizer, and hyaluronic acid every now and then, and that's it. I deleted tiktok a while ago, and I noticed how heavily skincare was marketed. I was watching youtubers my age like LayLuv, and I was like, am I doing something wrong for not having a ton of skincare, trendy clothes, or makeup. It's like the new norm, and it's just kind of weird to me how it's so popular all of sudden. I also noticed how girls my age look extremely pretty and way older than me. And ngl it kinda makes me insecure, but I know I'm made perfect in the Lord's eyes, and I shouldn't worry about my looks.
It’s new, but it’s not THAT new. I’m 20 (so peak gen z) and when I was 11-13 the makeup beauty influencers on UA-cam were at their peak (2014-2016) and as an 11 year old that had unlimited internet access in 2014 I was watching all the beauty influencers and buying/wanting tons of expensive makeup products because that was what was trendy. Most of the girls my age back then were the same way. It’s just evolved from makeup (because the heavy glam makeup was what was trendy back then) to skincare now because that’s what trendy. But 11-13 year old girls wanting to dress older and look older and copying older teenage girls is nothing new, it’s been happening forever.
i love your outlook. i am a gen z in highschool rn and i can feel the same way about the normalization of makeup and getting your lashes and nails done all the time. it can be hard but just like you said we have to remind ourselves that we are not weird or something for not doing that stuff and we are made perfectly imperfect in God’s eyes and are good enough all by ourself!
Yeah most good skin care advice/experts will recommend 3-5 products max. Cleanser moisturizer sunscreen, maybe an acne treatment, and a retinol if you have acne scaring or are an adult! But that’s about it
There was an 11 year old PSYCHED about getting Glow Recipe niacinamide dew drops and the Watermelon toner. She had a bunch of Drunk Elephant products as well. I couldn't quite believe that the ingredients in those skin care products are suitable for young facial skin. At that age, you need a cleanser, light moisturizer and sunscreen. That's it. Made me kinda mad at her parents for obviously NOT reading about those products, and the intended age target, but just indulging their child all fot the sake of being trendy. Stop letting social media platforms guide YOUR child. 😠
Maturing is realizing that no dermatologist will ever recommend drunk elephant, bubble or glow recipe. Cute packaging, popularity, or the brand name won’t actually benefit your skin.
Been saying social media is going to blow up in our faces. It’s already made my life worse as gen z, gen alpha is getting it worse because now they’re actually being TARGETTED by companies. STOP NEGLECTING YOUR KIDS AND GET THEM OFF THE TABLETS.
I know that some kids in gen alpha are already in middle school, which is when many girls start to feel insecure about their skin and get things like acne, but seeing a child who's asking for skincare products as gifts, even at that age, is really sad and unhealthy.
my momma always made me do skincare and makeup since i was VERY young (9yrs) but it turned out I was allergic to most brands causing more major breakouts. and tbh i love her but thats ridiculous. ESPECIALLY if its from major brands, I think marketing towards young kids is just another way of praying onto young kids (it affects both boys and girls but in a much more toxic way towads girls i've noticed). and these companies no matter what they say, do not have your best interests in mind they only want yo money.
The reason i use skincare at my age (13) is not because i want to fit into the standards or popularity, it’s because i have bad genetic and hormonal acne.
Me, A 13-year-old girl asking for a collection of The Emigrants Novels by Vilhelm Moberg, Scandinavian stuff, and Art Supplies : Update : I didnt get the books (sadly. I love The Emigrants Novels, my librarian recommended them to me since I can't pay attention to reading and I love Scandinavia) I got some Norwegian stuff (I got a Blanket, Dale of Norway Sweater, a Gnome plush and a book of Norse Myths) and some markers. I did get a Historical Norway-Sweden Union flag and a National Geographic Science kit tho
I find this sad as someone on social media frequently I also went through the phase of skincare, but over time I came to realization that I all I needed was a simple routine. Yes I still do use main stream products like bubble but I do it truly believe it benefits my skin. Although this I find it crazy that so many people ask for this for Christmas. None of this was event close to being on my list, and I find it sad that people truly believe they need these products. As all you need a cleanser.
im 11 (i was born in 2012) and personally i think this trend is completely stupid. me and my parents watched this video together, and we kept on laughing at these kids. i had really bad acne when i was 9, i didn’t use any skincare and now it’s pretty much gone. the other week my mom was going into sephora with me because she wanted this new foundation, and there were 8 girls who look liked they were 8-13 just standing around the drunk elephant section with their phones out, recording all of it. the funniest part about this whole trend is none of these kids even have skin issues.
W 11 year old I’m born in 2010 and I haven’t bought skincare until I was 12 bcuz I had eczema (very dry skin my hand skin was literally ripping apart it was so painful and scary) and I only had moisturizer. when I was almost 12 in 2022 and my cousin WAS 7 she told me that she wanted drunk elephant skincare she showed me them from in Amazon I was shocked. I didn’t even know what it was until she told me. A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, acne gel, and sunscreen are fine for kids. If they're getting into anti-aging skincare in their teens, then that is excessive. At least they'll grow up to maintain good skin health and look younger than those who don't take care of their skin.
Exactly, the next time somebody tells me to “grow up” as a 14 y/o, imma ask them if they’re fine with gen alpha actually growing up and leaving their teen/childhood behind

Yeah tweens using skincare is fine as long it is the BARE MINIMUM and the products are directed to be gentle and for younger consumers. Cerave, cetaphil, aveeno, are great gentle brands for tweens to start with, not glow recipe, drunk elephant, or any of those expensive brands targeted to adults. Im a teen and I make sure I will only use the bare minimum of skincare and use the neccessities, which are a cleanser, moisturizer, and a sunscreen. No need for toners, serums, essences or any of the extra steps.
What’s wrong with learning to take care of your skin at a younger age? As long as the products are safe for their skin, I don’t see the problem. I wish I had access to skincare and information at their age. Maybe I wouldn’t have dealt with acne as a teenager.
I preffer this than tons of make up, fake eye lashes, and other things that actualy damage your skin. I love the growth of embracing natural hair too, instead of burning your hair with flattening irons and airdryers, is better to have some good products that help you have a healthy natural hair.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself, like the dermatologist said sunscreen, moisturizer and cleanser is all you really need ( along with eating health and water ).The problem is that all these harsh chemicals aren’t exactly necessary are being marketed towards young children and could harm their skin. As a ten year old girl, I have to say I did ask for skincare I can’t lie. But, I know there is limits not even 12 year olds should be using retinols, toners, or other things that are not appropriate for the skin. My routine consists of a cetaphil cleanser, bubble moisturizer, sunscreen, lip mask *from la crème not even from laneige* and sometimes micellar water. Of course I don’t want other people to think she is just a kid. Kids should also do skincare because their face also gets dirty is like saying “babies shouldn’t shower because they are small” of course they have to right? The thing is it is not bad or wrong to do skincare at a young age but also don’t want to make it an exaggerated thing -Sorry for my bad grammar - this is just my opinion ok?
I'm a Millennial and agree with you. I don't see skincare in tweens as a bad thing. I think it's just knowing which products make sense for the age of your skin. Certain products are clearly for much older skin or are just gimmicks. A basic cleanser and some moisturizer totally make sense though.
To be honest…..there’s nothing wrong with wanting to take care of your skin even at a young age. I know some people would disagree because children’s skin is still very sensitive and delicate but…..taking care of it properly and using products at least suggested from an actual dermatologist can’t do any harm. I’m 24 years old, and I started getting acne at 9 years old….I wish I would’ve known a bit about skincare so I could’ve started taking care of my skin better at a young age. Now let’s make something clear here…..a lot of these brands, and even influencers are not telling little girls that they need those products….yes they’re in a way targeting a younger audience but the audience is 15-18 year olds, not 5-11 year olds.
Its not just lotion. These kids are asking for glow toners, anti ageing, pore tighteners etc. that's just not lotion as some wise person tried to insinuate n reply to u. I know fir sure a ten year old doesn't need a pore tightener
And a lot of these products are from tiktok, not from dermatologist and even if it's targeted to 15 to 18 , kids as young as 11 or 9 are asking for these because of social media non disclaimers or parents not intervening but encouraging things that'll harm them in future. You think it wouldn't harm them. As a derm let me tell you IT WILL.

Wrong. I completely broke out at age 10 and started using light cleansers. That's perfectly fine. The only issue is when they get obsessed and use super strong and expensive stuff.
The most skincare you need at that age is skincare to improve acne and sunscreen. I had acne during my preteen years so I did masks. If they are using any sort of wrinkle prevention or fine line minimizer then they should STOP.
I was born in 2010 (Gen Alpha or Gen Z, idk). I do admit I have a skincare regime consisting of mainstream brands such as Drunk Elephant, Glow Recipe, the Ordinary, and a few more. I also asked for skincare this Christmas as well. I think that most kids my age like it because of the mass influence of TikTok "skin-fluencers" and other kids our age. I personally don't believe this is harmful as most kids in my age group tend to lean towards beauty, nails and hair stuff. By 11 years old, many kids outgrow toys and move towards more "grown-up" things. We need to embrace this new reality , and instead of attacking the younger gen about this, EDUCATE us, and CONTROL our obsession. Make sure as parents you control the AMOUNT you buy, and WHAT you buy. Im only 13 so idk much, but hope you can take my words into consideration!!
you make better points than many of the adults here. I completely said similar. you guys have access to education about skin-care that I didn't. I never had social media like TikTok at 9 years old and I was already shaving and using my mother's skincare products. I never considered that abnormal. I was interested in beauty at an early age but I was also self-conscious. It was not the leaning towards this that was bad, it was only if it became out of control. you are right, the best adults can do is educate and talk to their children about themselves and their own self-image. making sure things are not getting out of control.
I also grew up with terrible skin care advice and down the line that's only going to make your skin concerns worst. Taking car of your skin with proper cleansing, moisturizer and sunscreen is not unreasonable and framing it as unnatural and the toxic beauty industry or what not is just unnecessary and screams fear-mongering. Knowledge is power, so give children more tools not less
As someone who works in the medical industry, I can, with great confidence, tell you that these products are not fit for young skin. To put it very simply - it contains many chemicals and these products were not formulated for children and young teens even if some are marketed that way. I know those in your generation are heavily influenced by social media and you may not think that there's anything wrong with these products now, but if you continue to use it, over time, I can most certainly guarantee it can cause many different problems down the line. Let young skin breathe - it's good to keep it clean (gentle soap and water), and use moisturizer and a hypoallergenic sunscreen. You honestly don't need more than that. Take it from someone generations above you with the education and experience please. I really don't want to see young people having skin issues because of these products that they honestly don't need at their age. The focus seriously needs to be shifted to more important things in life: building good character, morals, values, and molding yourself into kind and intelligent person. Generally speaking, THIS will serve much better than obsessing over something as superficial as skin. We shouldn't be embracing a negative reality where kids can't be kids. The future is what we make of it and there are certain things in life that should rightfully be looked down upon and shunned. Children are the future - it's up to you. Do you want to live in a world filled with superficial people who heavily emphasize something as temporary as beauty? Where kids are focused more on their skin rather than just being kids and working on developing something as valuable as their character and furthering their knowledge to shape their lives and the lives of others in positive ways to make for a better future for everyone? If you want the latter - you can be the change you want to see. So let's focus on that. What's really important.
Me myself I have super bad eczema so I use cleanser and moisturizer and it really Improved but I don’t need toners serums exfoliates so as long as 11-12 year olds stick to the basics they’ll be fine🤗
another comment from me, if you child is young and they want something like this, do NOT let them get big brands like glow recipe, drunk elephant etc. but let them get something like Evereden, which is basically drunk elephant made for kids. It was made for babies and young children to actually teach them to clean their faces and get into the habit without harmful products. It looks good, and it’s made for the whole family! ☺️
As a 13 year old girl it crazy how many kids really want skincare at such a young age like I’m seeing 7 year olds ask for anti aging products that they don’t even need and all that’s doing is wasting their parents money for stuff they don’t even need. I will say I use skincare as well because I do have acne but I’m not so crazy about it we’re I’m buying so many products especially those expensive products because there so many other products out there that are cheap and work probably better than those expensive products. It’s also really sad that kids my age are asking for skincare because for me all I ask for was plushies and some accessories for Christmas. Also I think the really don’t need all those products like cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen is enough for them they don’t need all those other stuff what so ever.
Fr I mean 12-13 is the age where skin Care will make a impact since acne, pores and etc but many younger gen alpha have been using skin care tbh me as a 13 year old girl too I don't have skin care from these products nor have any but I'm grateful what I have and don't ask for things and for granted tbh skin care and tbh 11 years should only use basic not retinol and heavy products because it's not good for skin care. But these kids do it for what they have seen online tbh I don't think you need skin care unless your skin needs it
It’s mostly peer pressure. As someone who is a Gen Alpha, we have basically grown up with a phone or tablet always in our hands. Since I was 4 I’ve used the internet. My own traumatic family issues/friend issues, along with the internet have completely destroyed me in a way. The pandemic ruined my life.
I’m 12 and I personally use skincare cause I have acne. Everything I have was recommended by a dermatologist. These girls obviously don’t have acne and there is no reason to use it, it will just damage their skin.
I think that for kids 3:14 who NEED it like have acne, dry skin and oily skin ect then it’s fine. If the kid has nothing wrong with there skin, then I think sunscreen is all that they really need, and maybe a Moisturizer or cleanser at night. For me personally I’m almost 13, and I have very oily skin, the pores on my nose get clogged very easily, and I have a fairly small skin care routine -cleanser -sugar scrub (for my nose only. Every other day) -nose patch (once a week) -moisturizer Obviously I don’t think you should let anyone but a dermatologist and your parents tell you what’s best for your skin, because if youre 11 and have bad acne, then there is nothing wrong with having a skin care routine
I started getting acne in 5th grade. I was really insecure about my skin until college when I started buying my own skincare products. I wish I had learned what to use to prevent a lot of my problems and acne scars earlier in life. I think it’s great younger kids are learning what is good for their skin.
These kids aren’t buying skincare that’s good for their skin. They’re buying what’s trendy and promoted on social media. That’s the issue that people have because the brands these kids want (with the exception of Bubble) aren’t meant for their skin.
Except that these aren't good for their skin. I started getting acne in middle school and all I used was a Cerave cleanser, SPF moisturizer and homemade turmeric masks. Homemade masks are great for skin and much more safer than harsh chemical junk. They helped control my acne and by the time I got to college my acne was basically gone. Even now that's my skincare routine, I don't own any big brand skincare. You don't need expensive stuff to take care of yourself.
There is nothing wrong with taking care of your skin. Starting a good routine at a young age is a good thing, however as a parent be smart and only buy them what is necessary for their skin at their age. If they are 11 and not getting pimples they do not need anything more than oil, balm, cleanser, sunscreen and a good moisturizer. When using sunscreen double cleansing is a must to remove it at night there for a cleansing blam or oil. Soild simple routine. My 17 year old (almost 18) just now added essence and ampoule for acne.
It’s just a new generation I love skincare but using skincare and makeup at 6 or 7 is crazy the age I think is a good to use skincare and makuep is 11!
12 and under all you did is maybe cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. 13 and up when skin issues start developing if you want to you can start with different products. But yes I agree no 6 or 7 year old needs a skincare routine, all my parents made me do at that age was splash water on my face every morning
I’m 14, literally born like a few months before gen alpha started, just barely a gen z and I have literally plushies, funkos, books, a onesie, knight figurines, snacks, games, croc charms, kpop photocards, and South Park stuff on my list. It doubles as my birthday list and Christmas list if it’s sounds like a lot, plus I dont expect every single item on the list. I wonder what type of Christmas lists Gen alpha will generate this year.
im 13 and i want stephen king novels, some crocs and charms, a south park cosplay, south park merch, sanrio stuff, taylor swift stuff, etc. my birthday has passed but im scared for our future
what these girls don't realize is that at their age they already have perfect and i mean perfect skin. you cannot improve perfection and slathering on these products full of chemicals when you are under 24 yrs old will just hurt your appearance more than help it .
As a 17 year old, I have horrible acne, I’ve had it since I was 8. Which isn’t normal. All I used was acne cream that was prescribed by the dermatologist that I went to. It did help but I don’t use it much anymore as it’s gotten a lot better. If I do use skincare I use a brand called Bliss. I haven’t touched skin care since I was probably 14 or 15😂
As a 13 yr old, I'm not interested in skincare products since my skin is sensitive but my younger sister is obsessed and wants it even though our mom says no.
These children are wayyyy to young to own toners and products that could potentially damage their skin. Plus some brands contain ingredients that aren’t safe for younger people.
The problem isn’t about kids wanting skin care because once you go through puberty obviously there are changes and you get acne and might need a simple skin care routine. The problem is that a lot of preteens are wanting super expensive skin care brands that they do not need stuff like anti-aging serums or vitamin c. They think they need things like Dior lip oil or to have Nike pros, lululemon or expensive UGGs. They may not even want it they just think they need it because they see it all over TikTok and wanted to look like the 25-year-old posting all of those things. The whole thing is sad because children are supposed to want stuff like Barbies or cars or whatever not want all of these things that most people in their early 20s would want and they ask for things that their parents can probably not even forward when they should be just trying to enjoy their childhood.
im technically in "gen alpha" and i need skincare, like my skin has broken out since i was 10 and i only started really getting into skincare this year and- it has helped! everyone my age uses skincare but no one is crazy using retinols. i think people 10 and under are not ready for it but i think older than that is fine! we actually need it!
you should use dermatologist certified skincare especially for sensitive skin from pharmacies or doctors. It's ok to get skincare but not skincare with retinol and other types of acids. Gen A kids get them because they are hype and are trending on platforms such as tik tok or yt shorts (which gen a kids are mostly on).
As a 12 year old I’m so scared to go to Sephora because I don’t wanna seem like a “Sephora kid” lol. But also I like skincare but I know since I’m young my skin is still generally weak so all I use is cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen but as a excuse I have a lot of acne on my forehead. They are all from bubble skincare I recommend :)
Same! I also have acne on my forehead. They way that people stereotype us, and the way other kids use peer pressure to an advantage is tiring. Skin care does look super cool, I will admit. I just wished it would stop showing up on my fyp cause I get that jealous lol.
Well, it rlly depends on what website you look at, but I would say gen alpha starts at 2012, because some sites say gen z ends at 2010, and some say it ends in 2012. So 2011 is the best answer for the end of gen z.
No, no, no...Generation X here...There was only Noxzema and Clearasil spot treatment which I used starting in the 8th grade when I started to break out when I started my period. I never had a "skin care routine."
I'm 12 and i just asked for the basic routine of Bubble. Bubble was made with younger skin in mind, and I actually need some skincare, because I started getting acne very young and it's best to prevent it before it gets worse. I don't understand the little 8 year olds who want Drunk Elephant and dumb things like "Pore tighteners" like, girl, those are for adults! A tiny little child shouldn't be using retinol or and all kinds of serums. Wait until you're in high school for that one. Just use your cleanser and your moisturizer and you'll be fine.
When I was 9 I had really bad acne, there were bumps all over my forehead. I used different types of skincare and I got even more bumps, now most of my bumps are gone because i eat much healthier. So if you want clear skin eat healthy foods.
I’ve had acne since I was nine. I’m 13 now and have been using skincare since then. It really shocks me how people want to do skincare when they don’t have any major concerns. Skincare isn’t fun or relaxing to ME because every time I put a product on my face, I look at myself and feel hopeless that my skin will may never make progress. I understand the typical face wash and sunscreen, but the other stuff feels unnecessary for girls who have glass skin 😅
im 14 and use cleanser , toner, moisturizer, and spf. thats it for skincare, its all you need. i constantly see 8-12 yr olds on yt with excessive amounts of expensive skincare and less IS more.
It's insane. Barring special circumstances I guess, kids that age should not have such extensive skincare routines. I experimented with some face products when I was a young teenager too, so I get that, but I wasn't obsessive about it. It's the social media age we live in. In some ways, I'm grateful for the skincare side of social media bc it's educated me more as an adult, but it also reaches an insane number of people (i.e. impressionable young girls) and peddles more and more products at us women that half the time aren't even necessary. It feeds off our insecurities, potentially creates new ones, and makes us think something's a problem when it's not...all of which is basically the entire beauty industry in a nutshell. There are so many young teenagers already worried about aging because of social media. They think aging past 20 means you're ancient. You got them already worried about fine lines and wrinkles because their view of age and appearance and what is _normal_ is so warped by social media where most people are filtered to perfection with perfect lighting and whatnot. Some teenagers are even getting botox! And while society has always placed such emphasis on girls'/women's physical appearance (much to my dismay), TikTok and all that makes it SO much worse. Young girls are sold things like not only skincare and makeup, but also cosmetic surgery. It's so toxic and disturbing.
There’s nothing wrong with putting skincare on your face. You should take care of yourself, but stay away from the harmful stuff. Sunscreen, moisturizer and cleanser like the dermatologist said, is good for you and I think that maybe not all ages should use this. This isn’t called “bad parenting” it’s called “taking care of yourself”. I understand your kid is growing too quickly but let them express themselves. It’s ok to let them use it, it helps them get into the habit of being clean. And cleaner skin is HEALTHY. Most parents should let their kids do this but I personally think it should be between the ages of 10-14 to let them use bubble, glow recipe, and maybe a cleanser. The parents aren’t in the wrong, but the kids should be able to use these skincare products. It’s called skincare for a reason. 🌟 some people say it’s for the “aesthetic” but they will sooner or later have HUGE skin problems if they avoid cleaning their faces. -stay clean and happy ✌️
I’m 15 and I only have like a face wash and I only use it cuz I use makeup 😭 (I barley use skincare) I don’t get why skincare is so popular at 11, 4 years ago I wanted a switch for Christmas and that’s all I really wanted. At 11 you have no acne as seen in the video they all don’t but it’s not cuz of the skin care it’s because they are literally 11. You should only want all these products if you have a lot of acne, which starts when you are a teen. I’m a teenager and I only have 1 pimple so it varies on genetics and if you touch ur face a lot/ too much junk food. I just happen to have my moms good genes.
Sameee!! I only use skincare because it feels relaxing for me. But either way, I literally have the bare minimum, which only consists of a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I'm glad my mom is strict on giving me skincare and makeup because she had friends who used alot of skincare products and when they became older they had a lot of skin problems (and also glad I got my mom's good genes aswell). And seriously tho, this year's christmas gift that I want is a lego set!
Nothing wrong with wanting to take care of the biggest organ making up your body. The issue is more of balancing what’s necessary versus marketing shams
@@Laura-Yunothings wrong with it yes, until these kids are believing the influencers they see on TikTok when they get recommended face washes with salicylic acid that will damage their skin for the rest of their life.
This is so, SO much better than children wanting pounds of makeup. I would buy my child skincare over makeup any day of the week. Skincare is genuinely a good thing to look after, especially for preteens.
Hi! I am a skincare expert and I’m here to tell you these products are not necessarily made for preteens. Some acids and concentrates are not made for children in mind. The best way I can describe this is it’s kinda burning a child’s perfect skin already.
That's not exactly true. Yes, preteens need some form of skincare, no they don't need these pore tighteners, collagen face masks, and peptides that you're seeing Gen Alpha ask for on their Christmas list. If they were asking for just a cleanser or sunscreen it'd be fine, but the things they're asking for are highly acidic chemicals designed, made for, and really only supposed to be used by people well into their 30s. It's also worth mentioning that these ads and skinfluencers can create heavy insecurities in young preteens because they don't have glass skin, and some may even bully their peers because they don't have that glass skin or the latest skincare line from their favorite celebrity; context matters.
The fact is that skincare is just super fun! Is not always a thing related to low self steem or finding flaws for our skin. I'm 15 and i do a lot of research when i use my products, and people always say how good my skin looks, because, if i stop using like, sunscreen, the pimples i always had start to pop again all over my face. Of course there may be a problem when kids below around 12 years old start to feel insecure about their skin even when it's just flawless, but i think that's not always the case.
Hate to break it to you as a dermatologist. Kids of 12 asking for drunk elephant glycolic acid or glow recipe is harmful to their skin. They are going to see consequences later.
they don't need anything aside from gentle cleanser (dove bar soap for sensitive skin is perfect), body lotion, and sunscreen, maybe light moisturizer. body cream for the winter if it gets too cold/dry. cetaphil is fine. anything else is too much. and focus on the importance of clean eating without being too restrictive.
It's perfectly fine to use skincare. However, using such harsh ingredients can be really bad for such young skin. I started using a light cleanser when I was 10 cause my skin began to break out. Right now I'm 14 and I think it's crazy that gen alpha has all these products. Parents, keep your kids off social media! That being said, kids need phones for high school. We'll literally get in trouble for not bringing our phones and this stupid 2 step verification thing for google means our phones need to be out at school. Also, teaching your kids about social media and its harms goes a long way. My parents don't manage my social media intake at all, because they have educated me enough that I set my own time limits lol
I started skincare at 10-11 ( I don’t remember ). And the only reason I did that is because I have a lot of allergies which makes my skin dry, red and maybe sometimes itchy. And at the time I didn’t even know they were allergies and just thought my skin was dry but those products helped it go away and I still use them to this day. Also, I didn’t even buy from drunk elephant or whatever there is now. And I didn’t even buy from Sephora random products, I went to a dermatologist and she gave me very good recommendations that helped my skin heal much faster.
I believe people should start using skincare when they start having acne because it’s very important to clean so you don’t get more acne and with the acne scars you can use moisturiser I think it depends whether you have acne or not in my opinion😅😊
product-less tips for skin care: -don't touch your face (something ten year old me did a lot) -wash your pillow cases at least once a week (something ten year old me d i d n 't do) -also wash your sheets and blankets frequently. they touch your face too. -wash your face twice a day, and make sure the sink you are washing your face with has a water filter because there are all sorts of stuff in tap water that can get on your face and potentially cause breakouts -have a designated clean towel in the bathroom that you dry your face with, do not use the communal hand towel because everybody's hand has been on that towel. -sugar, dairy, and caffeine can all cause breakouts. And sometimes, certain people can get breakouts from specific foods (for me it's tomatoes). -don't try to pop your pimples with your finger. That is dumb and it can lead to even more pimples. -if you have oily skin like me you might need to shower every day or even twice a day if you don't want to wind up with bacne (acne on back). -drink plenty of water. drinking water doesn't make acne go away, but staying well-hydrated can prevent more acne from appearing on your face. -DO. NOT. SLEEP. WITH. MAKEUP. ON.
Burtsbees is natural atleast
I don’t even see a kid with two pimples now.
right, when i was 11 i had just gotten a phone cause i was allowed to stay home by myself and i was still asking for toys 😭
I never said that kids shouldnt be practicing basic skin care, i said that it’s bad for social media to be pushing more insecurities onto youth only to then be pushing ads and influencers as their answers in order to gain money, not to be rude but you very much misread what I said.

as a gen z, i use skincare cause i have oily skin and is acne prone.
Ok I guess?

You don’t get the point no 8-10 year old needs those expensive things

When tweens are taught about proper skin care and about taking care of themselves instead of taking care of the latest trends, they will understand that there's no need for these expensive and often unhealthy skin treatments.
No we are talking about literal 6,7,8,9,10 year olds who’s skin is baby like. That’s what is concerning not the 12+ kids that start having acne and stuff.. we’re mad about 6 YEAR OLDS being introduced to this stuff
@@Beanboi2225 My answer's the same for any age.
@kaiaswrld it's so nice to hear that. Thank you! I agree with everything you said. We are pretty like-minded
@kaiaswrld it's so nice to hear that. Thank you! I agree with everything you said. We are pretty like-minded!
Just a good cleanser, a moisture and Sunscreen is all that should be used until certain age. Serums can be added later on.
At that age, I wanted glitter nail polish!😂😂😂

Oh no...
Gen alpha is 2013/2014-beyond
The reason i use skincare at my age (13) is not because i want to fit into the standards or popularity, it’s because i have bad genetic and hormonal acne.
Same! I was 12, I really wish somebody educated me on skincare, that would of saved me a lot of self esteem issues in my younger days

A gentle cleanser, moisturizer, acne gel, and sunscreen are fine for kids. If they're getting into anti-aging skincare in their teens, then that is excessive. At least they'll grow up to maintain good skin health and look younger than those who don't take care of their skin.
This is so weird to watch this gentrification of little girls wanting to be grown women and how society feeds that in real time.
Exactly, the next time somebody tells me to “grow up” as a 14 y/o, imma ask them if they’re fine with gen alpha actually growing up and leaving their teen/childhood behind
There might probably be Gen Z grandparents by 2030. Not parents but GRANDPARENTS.
Cleanser, toners and moisturizers are basics for even tweens. Also SPF protection.
No, the problem here is over consumption and dreaming to try brands which are supposed to be marketed to adult women.
For these tweens, basic cleanser, toners, moisturizer and SPF from la Roche posay and Avene is highly enough.
I’m a teen and I don’t even know what toner is or does help
@@willowstarzkool A great affordable and effective toner is the Thayers Facial toner with Cucumber. It also contains witch hazel extract, aloe vera, and glycerin. A toner removes face wash residue and tightens pores. Stay away from astringents which contain alcohol since they are harsh and damaging to the skin. Thayers also has an astringent line, do not buy these stick to the toners.
@@willowstarzkool The face washes that I use are made by CeraVe. I have oily/combination skin but I find that the Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser works best for me. If your skin is very oily use the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. If you are acne prone mix a few drops of the Cerave Acne Control cleanser which contains Salicylic acid into either of the aforementioned cleansers. I do not use the acne cleanser full strength because it is too strong for my sensitive skin. I moisturize with the CeraVe PM Facial moisturizing lotion at night and when I am at home out of the sun's rays. Cerave also has a day face lotion with SPF - Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.
No need for toners, serums, essences or any of the extra steps.
i’m just barely a gen alpha and now i wish i wasn’t
Also they are ridiculously expensive and I don’t think young kids should be going to Sephora and Ulta at such young ages.
The thing is it is not bad or wrong to do skincare at a young age but also don’t want to make it an exaggerated thing
-Sorry for my bad grammar
- this is just my opinion ok?
Skincare is great, but just know you don’t need to have “perfect” skin.
Thats great. Please keep that mindset, ur skin will thank you :)

Now let’s make something clear here…..a lot of these brands, and even influencers are not telling little girls that they need those products….yes they’re in a way targeting a younger audience but the audience is 15-18 year olds, not 5-11 year olds.
i totally agree, this sounded super “boomery” 😭 like oh how scary a 9th grader wants lotion? please

The only skincare kids & young teens really need is sunscreen.
Wrong. I completely broke out at age 10 and started using light cleansers. That's perfectly fine. The only issue is when they get obsessed and use super strong and expensive stuff.
If you use sunscreen you need a cleanser to remove it

@@brandilyn6720 i get what ur saying but soap doesn't cut it if ur breaking out. Using cleansers is the only way your skin can actually get better.
The most skincare you need at that age is skincare to improve acne and sunscreen. I had acne during my preteen years so I did masks. If they are using any sort of wrinkle prevention or fine line minimizer then they should STOP.
non-plot twist : they are all preppy’s
It was not the leaning towards this that was bad, it was only if it became out of control. you are right, the best adults can do is educate and talk to their children about themselves and their own self-image. making sure things are not getting out of control.
i believe it’s gen z but i’ve seen some 13 yr olds that act like gen alpha
I also grew up with terrible skin care advice and down the line that's only going to make your skin concerns worst. Taking car of your skin with proper cleansing, moisturizer and sunscreen is not unreasonable and framing it as unnatural and the toxic beauty industry or what not is just unnecessary and screams fear-mongering. Knowledge is power, so give children more tools not less
That’s very interesting to read. I don’t entirely think this is as black and white as we make it out to be.
But these kids do it for what they have seen online tbh I don't think you need skin care unless your skin needs it
So happy to be a 2000s baby🤭
I will never understand the skincare hype. As a person with acne, I would give anything to not have to do skincare.
They use it for “aesthetic”
I think that for kids 3:14 who NEED it like have acne, dry skin and oily skin ect then it’s fine. If the kid has nothing wrong with there skin, then I think sunscreen is all that they really need, and maybe a Moisturizer or cleanser at night.
For me personally I’m almost 13, and I have very oily skin, the pores on my nose get clogged very easily, and I have a fairly small skin care routine
-cleanser
-sugar scrub (for my nose only. Every other day)
-nose patch (once a week)
-moisturizer
Obviously I don’t think you should let anyone but a dermatologist and your parents tell you what’s best for your skin, because if youre 11 and have bad acne, then there is nothing wrong with having a skin care routine
I remember being obsessed with skincare in 2019 like I bought a skincare fridge and a hundred masks😭

Why can’t kids just be kids these days and times. The world is crazy af.

you should use dermatologist certified skincare especially for sensitive skin from pharmacies or doctors. It's ok to get skincare but not skincare with retinol and other types of acids. Gen A kids get them because they are hype and are trending on platforms such as tik tok or yt shorts (which gen a kids are mostly on).

It's so toxic and disturbing.
thank you, this is my favourite comment on here.
some people say it’s for the “aesthetic” but they will sooner or later have HUGE skin problems if they avoid cleaning their faces.
-stay clean and happy ✌️
Jesus I didn't start my skincare till I was 15.
I remember at 10/11 every girl in my class was wearing a full face of makeup
‘All you need at this age needs is cleanser, moisturiser, and sunscreen’ bro that’s all I use and I’m 17 😅
THANK YOU !! IM 17 AND IM FEELIN SO OLD NEXT TO MY 9 YEAR OL SISTER WHO LITERALLY IS SKINCARE OBSESSED AND CRIES WHEN SHE LOSES HER CETAPHIL HELPP
@@Laura-Yunothings wrong with it yes, until these kids are believing the influencers they see on TikTok when they get recommended face washes with salicylic acid that will damage their skin for the rest of their life.

uh uh… we’re 14 & 13. This issue is 2012+.

I don’t know anyone 14 or 13 that cares about this

@@SimplyZeroo I’ll have to agree with you there, but the point still stands. Makeup isn’t for little girls, they don’t need it.
FYI gen Alpha Starts 2013
Keep dreaming you iPad baby most gen z don’t claim you lol
2010*
When they were showing the two people putting it in they were adults

I believe people should start using skincare when they start having acne because it’s very important to clean so you don’t get more acne and with the acne scars you can use moisturiser I think it depends whether you have acne or not in my opinion😅😊
product-less tips for skin care:
-don't touch your face (something ten year old me did a lot)
-wash your pillow cases at least once a week (something ten year old me d i d n 't do)
-also wash your sheets and blankets frequently. they touch your face too.
-wash your face twice a day, and make sure the sink you are washing your face with has a water filter because there are all sorts of stuff in tap water that can get on your face and potentially cause breakouts
-have a designated clean towel in the bathroom that you dry your face with, do not use the communal hand towel because everybody's hand has been on that towel.
-DO. NOT. SLEEP. WITH. MAKEUP. ON.
Problem is the parents of these kids!
