well done Sr, you took care of all details equal vs equal, also same volume, same notes, same pressure, and also using a non fancy amplifer, most videos of other guys are an insult for common sense, they use a lot of effects and reverb-delay and fancy amps, so we don't know if the sound comes from the effects or the amp or the pickups, great job and very helpful video, thanks for taking the time to take care of details
They both sound great, and very different. The Peavy strat looks so unreal! Literally! It looks like a 2D painting of a guitar. The artist Alexa Meade does this kind of stuff, and I wonder if she was somehow involved with this guitar. At any rate, it’s a beautiful instrument.
dasMobius I doubt there was any grand design with that guitar lol. I bought it off eBay, there weren’t any close-up pics of it, but someone just scribbled all that with a marker. But I actually like it, and the pearloid pickguard and silver pickups/knobs really go with it 🤷♂️
I just wanted to add, I have a set of USA Duncan lipsticks in a Strat that seem to sound quite different than yours. I think you said that they were from a Squier surf strat? Anyway, they sound kinda tinny through my computer monitors; the USA Duncan lipsticks seem to have a lot more bottom end, they have that cool midrange scoop that most lipsticks are known for, and finish with a tight but powerful bottom.
Interesting. I’m curious if these cheaper ones are actual “lipstick” pickups, or just have a chrome cover to look like them. I know they are Duncan designed though.
@@Chucksguitargeekery I've had a lot of experience with both the vintage Dano pups and the Korean reissues as well. They all sound different from each other, but still have that mid scoop. I think the USA Duncans sound pretty close to the original USA Danos, as long as the original hasn't gone too microphonic. Check out my channel for an interesting vid I did of a mod where I put a vintage Dano into the soundhole of a cheap Godin Parlor guitar. The combo of the slightly microphonic vintage pup and the small bodied parlor made a very convincing sounding A/E 'blues-box'.
@@Chucksguitargeekery peavey gear is though as nails too. I had a sp15 speaker fall out the truck roll about 100yards down the hwy it still played that night lol
Nicely done, thankyou. My choice would be lipstick for bridge and leave the other two Strat pickups stay in place. Had a start with all 3 lipsticks, didn't like it. Thanks to your evaluation I think I might dig out those lipsticks laying around and put one back in a start in the bridge position.
Theyre a weak pickup. The Bridge is the weakest string energy so you want something hotter there. Id put one in the neck or middle. I think it sounds best in the middle and adds extra jangle in your 2 and 4 positions. I changed just the two pickups to Lipstick and missed the bottom end the prior pickups had. Now im just down to a middle lipstick.
I don’t have the guitar anymore to double check, but I think I remember it saying “handcrafted in China.” I picked it up at a pawn shop for $100, the neck just felt incredible.
Lipsticks sound sharper, crystal clear, are those lipstiscks also GFS or other brand ? the GFS texas dont sound bad but we can hear the lipsticks a way better
@@Chucksguitargeekery thanks for answering fast Chuck, my mistake I thought they were GFS lipsticks and I was about to order them, yours sound amazing possibly better than Fender Texas Special pickups, I stop on time ordering GFS lipsticks, thanks for the answer, very helpful
Any comparison video for guitar stuff strings pickups amps body etc. I can never tell which I like better. They are always different but most times not enough for me to want to switch. But I got a cheap guitar on purlose to be able to upgrade stuff and I have a crazy idea for an ultimate 80s guitar. Currently has HSH. It is a small sized guitar but neck length same. Hard to explain. Sorta like a bullpup rifle. I wanna put diff pickups so that I can do diff genres of 80s. Hair metal/new wave/ goth damage jangle sounds. I figure lipstick humbucker for bridge maybe? Idk. Help.
Very informative and surprising. Nice tone and nice playing. Are you strat obsessed? There is a wall full. Great video. The only thing more hideous than your t-shirt is putting a 90 degree cord into a strat jack. Now I will go buy 3 lipstick pickups. Thanks

Great video!! I like the "lipstck" sound! Do you feel much difference in the sustain? Which one has more?
Greetings!!

I have 2 old Peavy predators. Looking back I think bang for buck they were awesome guitars
I have 3, all heavily modified, plus 5 partscasters I built with Predator necks. It’s all I played for 20 years 🤷♂️

Love those Peavey Strats!
Cool video man. Trippy effects. Have a great day.
Thanks! The effects were kinda happy accidents, but I went with them lol.

Between the 2 pickups which would you say have the most jangle/chime? I’m a big rickenbacker into an ac30 type of guy. Great vid btw!
Thanks! Jangle is definitely in the lipstick’s wheelhouse.
Cool comparison! Thanks!

The lipsticks are actually out of a Squier Surfcaster, a shortlived model they had like 10 years ago. But I think they’re “Duncan Designed”

Chuck's Guitar Geekery Correct sir. Duncan designed.
Playing reminds me of Jonathan richman at times
The lipsticks sounds glossy to me and less hum too.

Comparing bottom-of-the-barrel GFS pickups to anything is a joke.
To be fair, they’re being compared to Squier lipstick pickups. I’d say they’re on the same level 🤷♂️
I do'nt know what happened to the quality of the sound but when the comparison started the peavey sounded very bright then it droped
