I have a Hahnemühle 100% cotton, cold press in A5 size. It`s my favourite and I love it more that the Etchr. I live in Denmark so it´s also much easier to get and cheaper than the Etchr
I am just starting out and I have Winsor and Newton A4 and A5, cheap as chips but I like them, they take ink very well, have not really tried watercolour yet mind.
Thanks! I'm obsessed with sketchbooks. Shiny object syndrome LOLOL. Will try your suggestions. I also really like the Speedball sketchbooks - very light texture, variety of sizes, mid price. Great with ink and paint. Happy sketching 😊😊
I saw so many people raving about the Etchr sketchbooks so when my local art shop got some in and were having a deal on them I picked up a couple and I used one recently and hated it 😭
Have used the H 100% cotton sketchbook and it is superb!! Especially good for layering. An absolute delight to work with and retains the freshness of the colours painted. Thanks for this video 👍. All the best…
I'm using Seawhite of Brighton A5 sketchbooks and find they suit me for drawing and light watercolour but have a S&B in the drawer which I'm plucking up courage to use - blank page syndrome 😂
I prefer a Strathmore 400 series, hot press, hard back sketchbook in the A5 size. It easily fits into my plein air sketching bag and it is just the right size for what I like to sketch.
My current favorite is Cheap Joe's Killimanjaro Paintbook! It alternates lightweight sketching paper with 140# (300gsm) 100% cotton hot or cold press Killimanjaro paper (that's cheap joes in-house paper brand). To top it off, the first page is a sheet of 300# (600 gsm) paper if you want to paint a custom cover.
I use all different ones. I live in Cambodia so I do t always know what I’m buying particularly if I buy online but given a choice I love an a5 250 or more gsm for watercolour or 180 gsm plus for dry sketching or adding a bit of watercolour. But I’ll use anything!
Such a great summary! Thank you! I must say I WISH we got the Royal Talens Art Creations in SA... it feels like such a gap in the market... And some of these are just so expensive from our local art shops. I've been testing out some cheap Temu and Potentate sketchbooks for my less precious work and have mixed results... but for R120 or less a sketchbook I'm willing to risk it! Can't wait to have the confidence for a proper big girl sketchbook like some of these!
Hello from New Mexico! I'm trying to just use one book but find myself using different ones such as S&B Alpha, Beta and Zeta. I'm using a pocket sketchbook for portability. Also, I purchased your book and I'm really enjoying it.
I took your suggestion of Stillman & Berns Beta and bought a few in several smaller sizes, hot and cold pressed versions. I love them and I managed to fill up one of them when I visited my mom for 5 weeks. I tried to find subjects interesting to paint in and around her neighborhood. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips and tricks over the years.
Interesting to see your picks! I really love the etchr everyday cold press and the Stillman and Birn alpha. The etchr being my favorite! Thank you, love your videos! ❤
I love how everyone has their particular preferences - that’s why there is no “best” but it’s just so fun to try out all the different ones out there 🥰
would you recommend starting with smaller ones like A6 or just start with A5 size? A5 is not as portable as A6 to me, but at the same time A6 is not good for bigger drawings
I think a6 is so cute but it's literally too small for me and i feel uninspired with it. A good in between those two sizes is the Paul Ruben watercolor sketchbook. It's b6 which is right in between a6 and a5. It's about 5×7 and I find that just that extra inch makes it feel much more roomy. My favorite all time size right now is actually b5 which is between a5 and a4 and around 7×10. Idk if you're male or female but I'm female and I always make sire I have a decent sized bag for my sketchbooks

I have a Hahnemühle 100% cotton, cold press in A6 size. It is beautiful. Definitely lives up to the hype. Recommend.

Stillman & Birn Beta is my all time favorite for watercolor and ink. Have been though more than 20 so far. Many sizes and shapes.
Yes their variety is so amazing. I really love them. I wish we could get them here in South Africa!

I love my HM 100% cotton sketchbook as well!

You mentioned Bernard’s books, does he have a website? Your sketchbooks are beautiful
He doesn’t have a website. His books are only available in South Africa. You can contact him directly or they’re available at artsavingsclub.co.za ☺️
@@tarias_sketchy_adventures thanks, I’m in Cape Town. Love theartsavingsclub

@@kathyhackney7950 thank you for your input. I need to check out the Paul Rubens one😀 I do feel a6 is a bit small
Yeh I also find a6 cute but in practice it’s just too small for my liking. I think a5 is the perfect size tbh
@@tarias_sketchy_adventures thanks!
