    Many times you strive for perfection only to find out you have been replaced by the camera. Imperfection is beautiful.

    Sorry to respond JuSt a BIT late, but Felix Scheinberger’s “Urban Watercolor Sketching” actually led me to you (not directly, but roundaboutly) as I now delve…Thank you! Oh, and wonderful collection here!✌🏼🖌️

    "Illustrated Life" & "Illustrated Journey" are at the top of my list. I highlighted each artist's : suggested ideas, advice as to why to draw, the tools they use, & suggestions to practice .

    Two of my favorite sketching books--by the author who actually inspired me to try urban sketching myself--are by Samantha Dion Baker, an American artist based in NYC. "Draw Your Day" and "Draw Your World"...beautiful and motivating books.

    That's why I bought the Urban Sketchers handbooks in Kindle format. I can change the font, and better still I can zoom in on the illustrations.

    Thanks for sharing some of your favorites. And thank you for moderate pace of speaking, I'm in my late seventies and the high speed not a pause for breath folks are tiring for me. It's a shame because many have such good ideas to share.

    Nice to see your video. I was involved in the first urban sketchers book and it's really interesting to see how this caught on and inspired others and spread to so many places and people. I don't sketch very much anymore, not sure why, but it's great that it keeps going and has developed so many other "facets". I will look out for your book, your sketches look great.

    Ok, just ordered the first book mentioned… 😬 I ”cannot draw” and just begun to draw and paint in my middle age. Just bought watercolors (the medium I hated at school…). I am excited and hope this book will also keep up my total excitement and new way of creating visual things in my life.

    I know I commented before, but that was a few months ago :D So, I've finally, finally, got a copy of Steven Reddy's book today. Yay! It's back in print and on Amazon for £18.99 and worth every penny! I also took a punt on an £8.99 book, Painting Successful Watercolours from Photographs by Geoff Kersey. Well, this book is a diamond. It basically encapsulates all that you teach about looseness and expression, Taria. It's a slightly larger than A4 format, with gorgeous photography. The clincher is that it isn't a 'I'll show you... now you copy me slavishly step by step' book. Kersey breaks down his finished artwork from photographs; through composition, to sketch, even to changes in colour tones. He kind of does what you do, and explains why he omits, or emphasises, or crops etc., etc.. It's a fabulous book that underscores what I've enjoyed about your videos. It's also given me a couple of lightbulb moments and I've only briefly dipped into it today. Great minds obviously think alike... you weren't his student at one point were you? LOL. It also helps that I know and love many of these UK landscapes, or have seen similar.
    I also got the other Danny Gregory, "An Illustrated Life" a month ago, and it's so beautiful and inspiring. Hope you post inspiring book updates a couple of times a year... I'd never have found David Gentleman otherwise :}

    This is my first encounter with you - showed up in my YT feed. Enjoyed it. Found Danny Gregory when his book Everyday Matters came out. So, I have the first book you mentioned. I've not heard of 2-4, so will check them out. #5 I already had on hold and it's ready for pickup at the library. I learned about Liz Steel from an interview she did with Maria from Art Toolkit here on YT. I retired from a large library. My dad was an artist. I'm beginning to draw/paint, but self-motivation is hard. Thanks for the bid and glad I cane across it!

      Thank you for watching Mary, glad it was a useful video. There are so many books out there and these were pretty much 5 of my first ones...and I have found them to be excellent purchases that I just come back to again and again for inspiration :)

      @@tarias_sketchy_adventures I retired from a library, and my father was a professional watercolorist. But dad's art was mostly landscapes. I'm not going to have the attention span for those, nor do I have the talent. Before Danny Gregory, I read Cathy Johnson and Clare Walker Leslie. I'm sure you've heard of them. And, John Muir Laws. These are more Nature Journaling artists, but I love them. Oh, Samantha Dion Baker. (BTW, since your book is pdf, I can't really get it. I am limited on devices.)

    David is still alive and I have just received his book Coastline. I also have his book London on order. On page 34 of his book Coastline there is a drawing of two buildings from Spurn Head a place I have been to many times. Though he has drawn the two structures close together they are actually some distance from each other. The reason for this is quite simple as the one on the left was a magazine used by the British Army in both World Wars to store ammunition and explosives. Not something you would want nearby.

    I own the Art of Urban Sketching, but not heard of some of the others ones so I'll have to check it out. One book I absolutely love and that I recommend to my arty friends is called Everyday Sketching & Drawing by Steven B. Reddy - it's not solely dedicated to urban sketching but he does a lot of it in the book.
