35:20 This is extremely good advice, smartly articulated by Jacob and it can apply to a huge range of tasks. Certianly to creative endeavors, but really to any skill-based activity. Learning to effectively handle failure isn't really about gaining comfort with failures, but about learning to identify and properly value different kinds of success.
I think you gain comfort with failure by seeing them not as a waste of time, but instead, like you said, reminding yourself what you learned and what you learned you need to learn. Because failure is literally just not fitting into the criteria set. Often because the criteria is too strict. Progress should be success. Attempt should be success. Especially with art. I think that is.
Drawfee is always my comfort place. I really needed something with this exact vibe of ‘serious’ and funny. I’ve been in a depressive slump and this just started to shake me out of it. I’m so happy y’all are prioritizing yourselves and your wellbeing over running the business, so to speak.

It's good for writing this. There are times when I'm writing an essay and I have a fact or tangent I really want to get into the main essay but it just never really fits. So, I delete my art (or copy and paste it and use it for something else). Another one on the creative writing side is merging characters together. The movie "Don't Think Twice" was supposedly double the number of main characters in the first draft but it got whittled down to six for the art of story telling.
Adding "commission Julia to draw a building" to my When I Have Disposable Income list. I already have "commission Drawfee to draw my cats" on the same list.
23:00 Nathan nailed it because I’ve recommended Love Actually as Dark Souls Bosses to probably a dozen people at this point and it continues to be the one I reach for as a normie recommendation
A lot of the advice they gave during Udon Draper applies to writing too! And I'm sure it works for other creative pursuits. Keep creating and having fun, Drawfans!
Around the 40 minute mark theyre asked about how to deal with making stuff even when you hate your art. Theres an old Jacob drawclass where they talked about practicing and i liked how he framed it there. At least in the context of a practice, the point isnt to make good art, or pretty art, or even art you like. That comes later. When you sit down to practice, that's input into the machine that is your body, which will then take that and transform your practices and growing skill into art you do like later on. Thats not universally applicable to the issue, but at least framing it in that way has helped me to actually start practicing. I used to start something a practice didn't a lot of the time, and crumple the page up in disgust.
That suggestion to give yourself another success metric for your drawings is so powerful. I'm going to champion that from now on. Also, I hope you come to Kansas City someday!

recently showed my best friend the cursed ships speed draw and honestly idk if she will ever watch another drawfee but i am confident homerxdio became a core memory so
My first Drawfee episode was the first episode of Drawtectives! I was looking for a roleplaying series and I fell in love right away. After that I had to watch more cause I love your guys personalities so much! I'm glad I did lol. I can wait for season 3 (I want it to be what you guys want so no rush) but I'm waiting very excitedly!
OOOH. I hope that becomes the way in for more people because drawtectives is so good, and so many people I think actually would love the whole silly investigation - fun characters - pretty art on the screen all the time thing. It's such a good combination! And genuinely the mystery is so good too.
No shade to the other editors but David's episodes are always my favorite and I'm glad to hear they're getting the chance to take on less of a burden without necessarily losing out on any of that
Thinking back, the times I've had the most fun doing art were times where I was either indulgantly drawing what I wanted because I wanted to draw it and not caring about the result, or times where I drew something to make a friend smile or feel special (fan art, depicting funny moments/interactions/dynamics, etc), and when I've given myself enough time or low enough expectations to just take my time and draw. It's harder for me to enjoy art when I'm drawing just because I want to or feel like I should draw. These are never 100% consistient like that though. That means it's probably best to understand how I'm feeling and adapt accordingly; I can identify what I don't like about my art (faces, how long it takes me, how it's hard to get started) and if I'm just not feeling good about anything then deleting my art and trying again or taking a break for now/the day is okay. Thank you for prompting me to reflect on my relationship with drawing. I don't draw often because it's hard to enjoy it but when I do it's nice and I wanna have fun with it more. I'm happy to hear the schedule shift has helped
For introducing people, I can add a tally mark for Jacob's idea of an interest-relevant speed draw. The one friend I got into drawfee was because he's a baker and mentioned the guy Nathan drew in the Anime History episode. So I linked him that episode with the hook of basically "surprisingly I know about that guy, this is how". And then Pokemon from memory. :D
I'm going to send my sister-in-law the love actually as dark souls video. But my actual go to is the one with Sara Pena and Hunter Richardson bc it's short and those two characters have infected my brain to the point where I have over twenty fanfics about them and it's been almost two years
All the advice on art and the encouragement really meant a lot to me. I'm very much stuck in perfectionism when it comes to my art and have lost a good amount of the fun from drawing. I needed to hear this. Thank you, Drawfee
This feels like a 2021 2020 drawfee when I joined the fandom and it literally made me better at art just because I stopped trying to be a perfectionist. I appreciate you guys so much.
The very first Drawfee episode I watched was the Drawing Stock Photos From Description vid with the business man in a bathtub and it must have been good if 4 years later I'm still here havung binged basically every episode in the last 6 years or so
The second I saw a Wuk Lamat drawn in a drawfee clips video I HAD to scour the recent VODs for her I love her so much waaah I’m so glad the new schedule is working out for you guys! This was such a nice stream to watch back. Hope everyone is having a good day (including chat and commenters!)
Ive shown 5 seperate friends the Bobby Hill character from the memeory episode and everyone immediately becomes hooked ao i recommend that for getting people into drawfee
The episode that got me hooked on drawfee is the blind drawing challenge, I was expecting chaos, but to see your personalities and how much fun you were having really made me want to stick around (also, I was impressed how well yall could draw without looking, you should do it again, ahem)
I can confirm that the editing is POPPING OFF is sooooo good and the episode are also amazing 👌👌👌👌 And i mean drawfee getting more time have always been better episode!!
"I love knowing I don't have to do anything soon" hard same. The worst is when you have several months of Doing Things lined up, even they're all good things you're going to enjoy, just knowing you have a series of Things to do is tiring
Watching this at 10:47 on a Sunday night, and the chat about getting past self-criticism has motivated me to finally revive my 2017 challenge to write a song a week - because I'm not going to get more comfortable with my own creative output by thinking my way through it.
the episode that got me into drawfee and that i use as a gateway is the sonic butthole saga. all of it. i feel like if you can enjoy that right off the bat then drawfee is definitely for you
I first saw drawfee many years ago, i saw a couple of pokemon episodes and the bone game. i didn't subscribe at the time because I was mostly using youtube for music. a couple years ago I saw the first bone game episode back on my recommended and remembered that and the pokemon episodes and how much I liked them. I decided to watch more. i ended up subscribing and watching through your old catalogue. I'm still not done because there is so much content. I'm having a great time.
re: when Nathan said "sometimes nothing you do will look good enough to you" 44:22 that's the point in my life when I know I'm ready for growth. I've often found that no matter what I'm pursuing when I hit that wall of "everything is not good enough" it's my brain forcibly raising my own bar so that I have something to struggle and strive for, or more to struggle and strive for. In the process of that struggle the floor gets raised and I dont fall as low. Like putting in a climbing spike it marks a place where you dont want to fall below again, or doing a quick save on a game, as an acknowledgement that you've earned your growth upto this point and are ready for more.

per the talk of 'episode to show a new person' When I first started watching Drawfee, I came from watching for the more 'comedy' or 'podcast' angle. And the drawing challenge episodes were usually better for the bants and laughs, where as the speed draws have more focus on the art. More cool appreciation for the cool art. Of course, you never know when Julia is gonna decide to set her portrait aflame to ramp up the chaos. Anyways, when I first started watching drawfee, I was more interested in the funnier episodes and I eventually grew to love everything you guys do. SO, it goes back to the notion of 'know who you are sharing with.' Does the friend like a funny? drawing challenge/from memmies. Does the friend like a cool art? Speed draw. Edit: Ohhh, Im so excited to hear Julia is proud of the next Drawtectives! I cant waaaaiiiittt! (but I will politely, hah) Edit 2: Also, you guys have inspired me to draw more :)

Living with it is easy compared to everything else I have to do. It’s mostly ads anyway. And yes I am sick, major depression, which makes reading anything that might engender any kind of negative emotion really really fraught.

Awww, this was so NIIIICE, there's so much warm and fuzzy vibes in this stream! :,) As part of the 'gently devils-advocating FOR the person who used chatgpt' group earlier, I really appreciate hearing yall talk about it a lil bit more - I have full respect for Karina's declaration of "we're gonna rag on you a LIL bit - you made it so easy!" Totally fair lmaoo I think - or, well, I HOPE - that it will be very helpful for people to hear that you get 2-sentence emails saying nice things that you do appreciate. Part of what drives the desire to use AI tools is definitely the feeling that the user is somehow not enough without them. (How many of us can really spell on our own, without autocorrect?? The word "occassionally" trips me up every SINGLE TIME! See, I left it in wrong, just to prove, that's how I spell it without help!) Putting the bar on the floor by encouraging "send US the prompt you WOULD have fed the AI and we'll imagine it for you!" Is a legit truly kind thing to do! A tiny bit is enough. 2 sentences is enough. The statement of a desire to send a long and formal appreciation letter is enough. YOU are enough. And that's really good to hear :)
Wait hold on y'all have freelance editors? Is there a way to become a Drawfee editor? I literally have a bachelor's degree in this exact sort of thing and it's doing F all else for me. Plus editing was always my favorite part of the video production pipeline.

I'm hyped to lookup the love actually episode, I don't think the algorithm was ever gonna give it to me
Have fun. It's wild enough it came to my mind in like 15 seconds.
It's so unexpected, but so good. It's honestly one of my favorite episodes.

Karina's impassioned "fuck you Dallas!!" resonated so hard with me, lolllll.
Adding "commission Julia to draw a building" to my When I Have Disposable Income list. I already have "commission Drawfee to draw my cats" on the same list.
The commissions on their patreon are one-time only, so you'll have to pick which of those is a doodle and which is ✨spicy✨
I’m Merobiba!
yeah you are
23:00 Nathan nailed it because I’ve recommended Love Actually as Dark Souls Bosses to probably a dozen people at this point and it continues to be the one I reach for as a normie recommendation
Seconding Kansas City!!
Watching this stream and interacting with other watchers, man I love the Drawfee fandom/community.

i have a friend that loves dnd and i’ve been waiting for the vod of y’all designing dnd characters to get put out 😔🙏 that’ll be my hook to get my friend into drawfee
Don't they already have that? They do! Like, a dozen. Right. VOD. They have episodes though.
@M.Datura they're talking about a specific one. (Clarifying, no sass)
@@happenedbychance3392 Yeah, as I said. Just a lot of people aren't aware of a lot of their content and I left the comment in case the og commenter didn't remember just how much d&d content they have.
Julia is glowing ❤ new format is already taking effect 😊
The energy y'all brought to the speed draw last week, you could tell. This is going to be so much better long term.
finally i can catch the back half of this vod! still gonna watch the whole thing so that whatever is tracked by analytics gets the good numbers.
the og bone game is the one i've used to introduce folks to drawfee before (and it's worked 100% of the time hehe)
Yaaaaaay I love a drawfin stream
I need a Tender Ond Sweet edit of clay Luigi and Worm Vash doin a... a lil......... A.. Asmooch
recently showed my best friend the cursed ships speed draw and honestly idk if she will ever watch another drawfee but i am confident homerxdio became a core memory so
Tbf that was my first episode and I’ve been hooked ever since!
I've gotten at least one friend to subscribe via the deep blue ink pipeline
My gateway episode into Drawfee was Merobiba. I think that's a great place to start. 🤣
1:45:53 this bit of the vod brought be so much joy
1:03:42 HE PUT IT IN WORDS!!!!
1:35:17 A RIDDLE FOR THEEEE
The 'nice emails'-folder is such a lovely idea ❤ I might have to contribute to it sometime soon
The very first Drawfee episode I watched was the Drawing Stock Photos From Description vid with the business man in a bathtub and it must have been good if 4 years later I'm still here havung binged basically every episode in the last 6 years or so
The second I saw a Wuk Lamat drawn in a drawfee clips video I HAD to scour the recent VODs for her I love her so much waaah
I’m so glad the new schedule is working out for you guys! This was such a nice stream to watch back. Hope everyone is having a good day (including chat and commenters!)
Ive shown 5 seperate friends the Bobby Hill character from the memeory episode and everyone immediately becomes hooked ao i recommend that for getting people into drawfee
Nathan drew a Julia ngl. Very informative and enjoyable, glad you’re all allowing yourselves to have more time :)
"Baby Kong goes to Brazil" reminds me of when I was a kid I called the 90s batman and robin movie "Batman goes to the moon" to piss off my brother
The episode that got me hooked on drawfee is the blind drawing challenge, I was expecting chaos, but to see your personalities and how much fun you were having really made me want to stick around (also, I was impressed how well yall could draw without looking, you should do it again, ahem)
1:35:55 "The city is a riddle! And you are just a littleeee bitch."
Amazing line from Nathan
I can confirm that the editing is POPPING OFF is sooooo good and the episode are also amazing 👌👌👌👌
And i mean drawfee getting more time have always been better episode!!
8:17 no one commenting on nathan's chappell roan reference is killing me. I see you nathan!!!!
"I love knowing I don't have to do anything soon" hard same. The worst is when you have several months of Doing Things lined up, even they're all good things you're going to enjoy, just knowing you have a series of Things to do is tiring
I introduce my friends to drawfee with the inspirational posters episode :)
Watching this at 10:47 on a Sunday night, and the chat about getting past self-criticism has motivated me to finally revive my 2017 challenge to write a song a week - because I'm not going to get more comfortable with my own creative output by thinking my way through it.
Both Corridor and Drawfee on the "Making stuff takes time actually" vibe. Absolutely fair enough.
something healing about this one
Best episode for getting into Drawfee is obviously the Merobiba one 😂
the episode that got me into drawfee and that i use as a gateway is the sonic butthole saga. all of it. i feel like if you can enjoy that right off the bat then drawfee is definitely for you
I first saw drawfee many years ago, i saw a couple of pokemon episodes and the bone game. i didn't subscribe at the time because I was mostly using youtube for music. a couple years ago I saw the first bone game episode back on my recommended and remembered that and the pokemon episodes and how much I liked them. I decided to watch more. i ended up subscribing and watching through your old catalogue. I'm still not done because there is so much content. I'm having a great time.
re: when Nathan said "sometimes nothing you do will look good enough to you" 44:22
that's the point in my life when I know I'm ready for growth.
Gateway videos in no particular order and badly titled: Cryptids, drawing your home states as people, New Jobs, Hank Green and Animals, Handsome Men, Dreams, Julia is this Blender?, Fast Food Mascots, the one with Ajaja ajaja.
Do a Europe! That'll make it so much easier for me to see your guys
i always draw best when i have a video or stream on, its like we're a bunch of friends all drawing together and you make me laugh
re: commissioning. i once got commissioned by this group for their ocs and like. they gave me a google drive of refs and a gdoc of details about the characters' general vibes and what they wanted exactly and the revisions they gave me were so detailed i loved working on that it was so unstressful
Y'all should totally design the 'Two Million Creep' as a character.
Drawtectives season 3! I'm so excited! ❤
I think almost any episode will convey enough vibe to either attract or drive off newcomers.
I looked up to the noodle don draper with the quote and almost choked on my sandwich ahaha 10/10
1:35:06 *the city is a puzzle*
So glad you’re all taking time to relax and eat trout
1:06:32 "look in the mirror, babe" says Jacob (the sequel to stay big babe?!)
I always show friends the Thomas the Tank Engine episode. It's relatively short but perfectly encapsulates how the show can devolve into pure chaos.
Drawfee has a hooked into my brain to the point that I unprompted felt like joining in on the “sleepy barista vampire” tongue twister while alone in a room
I love that jacob horse is one of the people "in" this video
26:18 SWEAR I was in the middle of saying "this is the last th--" when Jacob started the same sentence. I think the one-brain-cell policy is starting to expand to the userbase. Starting? Maybe I'm only noticing now. Anyway, can't think of much better people to share that one hard working neuron with
1:29:56 very fair. What about Denton??
I love Julia's drawing
per the talk of 'episode to show a new person'
When I first started watching Drawfee, I came from watching for the more 'comedy' or 'podcast' angle.
(but I will politely, hah)
Edit 2: Also, you guys have inspired me to draw more :)
1:29:57 as someone who was raised in Dallas, ouch, but also, fair enough I can't really blame you 😂
1:14:49 "I don't know how people live with thousands of unread emails on their active email account, like, are you okay? Are you sick?? Is this a cry for help??"
In order: I don't know how I live like this either, no, yes, yes
Living with it is easy compared to everything else I have to do. It’s mostly ads anyway. And yes I am sick, major depression, which makes reading anything that might engender any kind of negative emotion really really fraught.
@@elizabethpemberton8445 For real
I think my first Drawfee eps were Seto Kaiba drawn in different styles, then their self portraits from that year.
I watched this stream live and at one point I walked away to do something and came back to Nathans drawing AND IT HAPPEND AGAIN! both times I looked at the screen and thought it was Julia drawing, but no, it was Nathan
me and my friends had a youtube channel and we stupidly did 2 fully edited vids a week 3 if you count a friends channel and we had to go to 1 a week but at that point we definitely burnt out
Intro song is a BOP
I am hyped for drawtectivvvvvvves
Karina saying she can’t draw Luce pole vaulting because it’s hard. Me “I think it was soft, actually”
Awww, this was so NIIIICE, there's so much warm and fuzzy vibes in this stream! :,)
As part of the 'gently devils-advocating FOR the person who used chatgpt' group earlier, I really appreciate hearing yall talk about it a lil bit more - I have full respect for Karina's declaration of "we're gonna rag on you a LIL bit - you made it so easy!" Totally fair lmaoo
I think - or, well, I HOPE - that it will be very helpful for people to hear that you get 2-sentence emails saying nice things that you do appreciate.
I usually introduce people with the ‘4 artists draw the same character’, or the color palette one.
"what are we google?" *proceeds to give the person a bunch of recs anyway*
Wait hold on y'all have freelance editors? Is there a way to become a Drawfee editor?
I literally have a bachelor's degree in this exact sort of thing and it's doing F all else for me. Plus editing was always my favorite part of the video production pipeline.
Honestly I'm thrilled they have some weight off both themselves and their editors ❤
I'd much rather you all have happy, quality content only once a week then unhappy burned out folks 😊
That said I'm also super excited to maybe get speed draws again! They're one of my faves and one of the times we really get to see you all flex your full skills as artists!
so i was only listening for a while and then i actually looked at the screen at like 43:00 and i think the emotions it gave me were previously unknown by humans
The Mug drawing is evoking Jarnold, Barnold, and Bimbaileys.
