Mario Cucinella: 'Sparking Change' Fuorisalone 2024 | Roca

We sit down with renowned architect Mario Cucinella to discuss "Sparking Change," an innovative installation by Mario Cucinella Architects. Presented at the Università degli Studi in Milan during Milan Design Week, this project embodies the principles of circularity and decarbonisation, showcasing a pioneering innovation that is transforming the sanitary ceramics industry.
"Sparking Change" features a 4.5-meter-high semicircular backdrop of modular ceramic elements, highlighting the evolution of ceramics. Inspired by the world's first electric tunnel kiln at Roca Group's plant in Gmunden, Austria, the installation tells the story of sustainable renewal. Comprising 1,200 uniquely colored 3D printed ceramic blocks, it illustrates the temperatures needed for high-quality ceramic products, with each block displaying the temperature reached at each production stage.
