So pleased for Antoine Dupont individually, and France as a whole, that they got the gold in the end. He’s been the best player in the world for a few seasons now in the XV-man code, and the French have been there or thereabouts for much longer than that without ever being able to win the whole tournament, so this is a kind of fitting and deserved result for them. The tournament as a whole was memorable for all the right reasons. Close and dramatic matches and the fairytale ending, which doesn’t happen often in sport.
And a super humble guy too. I loved the way the spectators treated the Fijians, with so much respect. Also, seeing the Fijians knee down to receive their medals was a lesson in humility. Bravo.
@EggchasersRugby sadly SA Sevens decline was so predictable. Blitsbokke funding was cut when in 2021 South African sevens academy's money tap was closed. Money is the main problem. Blitzbokke can no longer pay players enough to make it worthwhile for them to play for Blitzbokke.
Rugby is a team sport and credit should go to everyone, players, staff, etc... But no one will take away the idea from me that Dupont is unique. For me he is the goat!
I really appreciate your efforts to promote rugby and your unbiased attitude to the Irish teams.ìt would be great if you could reach a wider audience. You are yourself someone to be admired.Well done you.
I ended up watching it using a VPN for Australian TV, couldn't find it on BBC. It's a shame as it has been great to watch, the games were all pretty tight and the final was really epic, scoring a maul try in sevens is insane and Dupont coming in like superman and immediately putting France in the lead was amazing
Incredible, Allez Le Bleu and Allez Dupont ... feel a bit sorry for Fiji (from a Qtr Final Challenged Irish Rugby nut) but Wow for the GOAT and the fans, I just loved it ❤ ... Good Job Egg Man 👏 Great content always
Thank you for your clear pronunciation which allows me, as a Frenchman, to understand you perfectly. Thank you for the passion you show: When we see geniuses like Dupont, Pelé, Wilkinson, Carter, Messi, Jordan, Ayrton Sena we must forget if they are French, English, Brazilian, Argentinian, American or NZ; We open our eyes and we savor
Yes Tim, the BBC should be horribly ashamed of their coverage. Their website stated they will show ALL sevens games, the twist was; none of the knockouts were live. No red button live coverage, while showing volleyball and basketball. 😂 I can't comprehend it if I'm honest.
Need to connect to another countries TV using a VPN. Irish TV (RTE) showed final and obviously France did (france.tv). Although Irish TV never showed Irish games today. There is a lot of competing sports and the national broadcasters don't seemed to be able to cast live all events (I think it's a rights issue).
You put up the wrong score in the graphic for the bronze medal match. Thanks for the great coverage as always. This Olympics made me like sevens more as well. DuPont is a historic talent
I'll say it so Tim, he is in my opinion the GOAT and agree that we are privileged to be able to witness him, he is not only a difference maker but it seems he is one every time he plays
The good thing is that not only about France, but all about the rugby world. Many around there don't even care about Rugby, despite all legend that played rugby and made advertising. Dupont gave a real good highlight on the rugby XV and VII. Especially french and many rugby VII players, they probably would never have a full stadium, and Dupont maybe will shine over this sport and it's for a greater good.
I am happy to see your appreciation for 7’s grow as I love 7’s. No doubt it is more enjoyable to watch content made by folks who actually enjoy the sport they’re covering! Having lived in Fiji for years, I was gutted by their loss. For such a tiny country, and in general a very poor country, it is amazing that they are able to compete at such a high international level in any sport. The downside is “as the Fiji 7s go, so goes the country.” The Rugby 7 IS Fiji’s Olympics. So I am sure the country is proud of their team at winning the silver, but crushed too.
Thanks Eggie, we re ecstatic , living In a fairy tail where every rabbits look like Antoine « Toto » Dupont ❤🎉🎉🎉 beating Fidji is an absolute honor and privilege , fantastique tournament, merci les Bleus ❤❤❤
Rugby 7s is the best format to showcase just how talented Du Pont is. I couldn't appreciate the magnitude of his talent in the regular format, but in 7s his impact it glaring he's truly a magnificent Rugby Player.
Happy for France, especially for Dupont, he played his heart out, it was his goal the get the gold for France after the WC (was difficult for him). Also SUPER PROUD of the Blitzbokke. Hard luck Fiji but the best team on the day won.
Been watching and playing rugby my whole life (27years) and can safely say Dupont is comfortably the best player during this era. If he wins a world cup, then he is the goat.
Well done, Dupont, for winning the Gold for France.Well done, Blitzbokke, for the bronze medal.Well done Ireland, for qualifying for the Olympics.England , you can try to qualify for the Olympics in another 4 years.😢
No arguments Tim. I've been watching rugby for over 50 years now (and played) but I've never seen such an all round complete player like Dupont. He's like a scrum-half, out-half, winger, hooker, flanker and centre all combined into one. Incredidible versatilty, quick thinking intuative rugby brain, can kick equally well off either foot, anticipates the game around him like no other....the only other player I think of like him is the late great Joost van der Westhuizen. And I can't think of a better accolade than that. (From an Irish fan).
Congratulations to France! Dupont made a huge difference in this game. He really is an amazing rugby player. Speedy bugger as well! I can't help but think that Fiji were hard done by with the referee in the first half. France gave away so many penalties, but every time Fiji went for the quick-tap the ref called them back, yet every time France did it he allowed them to play on. The French jersey design was atrocious! It looked like a toothpaste commercial. Once again Fiji's design was slick! I'm very happy for the Blitzboks. They had to salvage their season and qualify the hard way. They were in the pool of death with NZ and Ireland and yet they got a Bronze medal in the end. Awesome stuff!
Agreed, I wasn't a 7's fan but what fun, what a difference Du Pont made! Thought the blitzbokke wouldn't even make it tbh and then they got through to quarters😅 well done France, no doubt they deserve that medal🖖
I went over for the first day and the atmosphere was absolutely bouncing then. I had never had a real interest in it. But it was a fantastic day of rugby. I would love to go again.
South Africa were the best in 7s thanks to Niel Powell Since he left we got the most useless coaches. Hopefully things will change now. Well done Bronze Bokkies and kudus to the 🐸s.
Nonsense. Neil Powell was the greatest of SA coaches. Since he left , Blitzboks have subsided. Paul Teu was his predecessor. Had his moments... some good & some not so good.
Massive congrats France on a well deserved victory from a Fiji fan. I really dont get the hype around Dupont switching to sevens from 15s and winning olympic gold (Leone Nakarawa and Josua Tuisova did it for Fiji in Rio in 2016 and Semi Radradra in Tokyo in 2021,given they did all start out as 7s players). I cant begrudge him winning gold on home soil though, thats as good a fairytale ending as it gets. Without a doubt he is one of the best players on the planet, he seems like the ultimate team player, judging by the try assists and opportunities he gives the players around him to score. As far as Fiji is concerned im absolutely proud of what this team has done, coming to the olympics in poor form as underdogs and outsiders, a dismal 2 years on the world series where we didnt win a single title, medalling was a bonus. Based on recent form and results i expected Ireland, Argentina and France to medal, due to their consistent results, it must be totally demoralizing for the Argentinians and Irish on how these olympics turned out for them, I could say the same thing about the kiwis and Aussies. The only consolation is we beat this French team in pool play(with Dupont)
Well deserved revenge from the stolen world cup. After the very biased decisions of the ref in the WC 1/4 finals Antoine decided to switch to 7's, a cleaner sport. Love the way you spoke about this event.
I think it would be worth trialing forward passing in Rugby ; A player may pass the ball forwards as long as the ball is recieved within the same marked area of the pitch and not beyond. In the end zone defending side may block attacking players not just the ball carrier.
for me he is the goat...without any doubt. So what...it hurts the Anglo-Saxon world to recognize it loool^^ ...the title is all the better like that!...and i'm not French Well done France...great rugby ! salutation to you Eggchasers Rugby ! you are also the best !
In fairness to Tokyo I think it was a Covid Olympics, so nobody at any of the sports really. Regarding the UK coverage - spotty at best but by handing over the princely sum of £3.99 to Discovery + you can watch pretty much every minute of the Olympics. The driving maul at the end did make me laugh - certainly a first! Love the idea of the 100kg+ 7s tournament - can’t wait to see Tadgh “Twinkle Toes” Furlong out there 😀
SA here, Blitzbokke have just been massively mismanaged in recent years and then lost most of their best players to 15s where there's more money. Some poor coaching decisions and change ups have also not helped, our current coach hasn't even been on the job half a year.
How about trying to offer 1 positive like an Olympic bronze medal. How many professional rugby players at even the 7's level get to say they are an Olympic medalist. Stop bitching and just congratulate them for getting an Olympic medal. I'm also south African but sick and tired of the bitching complaining and moaning of some south Africans.
@@GrantKanaar I'm answering the question in the video about what exactly has happened to the Blitzbokke in the past few years. Something he literally asked about in the video
Congratulations to southern hemisphere teams you guys are the back bone of rugby and congratulations to France for winning gold against best three southern opponents 3:1 ratio they did it
You are right, we have the chance to see him doing amazing things NOW and we should really appreciate that. In the future, for any very good player emerging, the question will be "but is he as good as Dupont?"
Absolutely agree on the sevens, enjoy it and it is good fun, but the series normal relies on the festival party style package, to sell the sport. Not sure this will change anything and for me i was more enthusiastic over the maul try and tap and goes in the 5m. Says more about me though 😂. Sevens with props though .......tell me more
In his club, Dupont win the french championship 59-3 !!! 😮 In fact, Toulouse have many internationals players (the best scottish, the best argentinian, the best italian, and Willis), but in this match he make an incredible try with shooting for himself). Very good feet, not visible in Seven, when he was young he play at high level in football.
Its no wonder Dupont has no neck with the amount of accolades. I've been watching 7s for a little while now, because we (Ireland) are competitive and there seems to be plenty of tournaments, or am I wrong?
The Blitsboks lost there coach and since then we have not been able to reach the heights we were at. Very good result getting a medal at the olympics for the Blitsboks, as far as I remember this is our first medal...
Impact of Dupont on rugby 7 is huge : 95% of French public have just discovered in 2024 that rugby 7 exists (and is more than worth watching) due to media coverage of A. Dupont.
I enjoyed the 7's and it lived up to the hype with Dupont etc. The difference for me though between 7's and 15's is the difference between a lite beer and a great big meaty pint of Guiness...no comparison.
Tim you and Wildkard are my favorite independent podcasts, but please remember Cheslin Kolbe has already won (x2) Worldcup titles back to back (x1) Olympic (sevens)Bronze, British and Irish lions series and Rugby championship. The G.O.A.T status when referring to rugby union codes must be based on multiple titles, and accolades I suppose. However, Dupont is an excellent player, no doubt about that, he once again proved himself in the Olympics, but sometimes I feel the media up north is not very objective. Worldcups, Olympics and Six Nation/ Championship in the South including British and Irish Lions series should play a collective role. All major titles must be taken in consideration to determine the Greatest team and player(s) of all time in rugby union, otherwise we all will make our own conclusions. Cheslin and Diamian Willemse hinting to compete in the future Olympics again, and maybe convincing Kurtley to join them one more time on the sevens circuit and should they be lucky and pull it through in the next Olympics, what will that make them. I know Sonny Bill attempted to do it for NZL after he went back to back, to solidify his legacy in Rugby union.
Firstly, well done France. I saw CEO Alan Gilpin saying he wants more 15s international players to play 7s at the Olympics, a few sure, he was saying we need to get players out of the 6 nations into the LA games. I think that's unfair to the 7s players playing 4 years and specializing in a sport to then be pushed aside and going we need the 15s stars thanks for playing your entire career at 7s but we need more Antoines. That is absurd to me. So one of the GOATs has achieved something insane and should be celebrated but let's not discard all the other members in the French team that worked insanely hard to get France here; and let's not let the moment cloud our judgement on what it takes to be successful in both codes. Their different sports needing different athletes. Hugo Keenan didn't drive Ireland into the Olympic gold medal match did he? Let's celebrate the moment but be objective.
Well done France, Blitzboks need to make some serious effort on getting back to were they were two years ago, new coach, unlucky Fiji but France at home hard to beat in front of all those fans 👍
Im really greatfull that rugby 🏉 although as sevens is in the Olympics. More nations will play the 15 man rugbyunion code. Imagine if rugby goes big in the USA. Cant wait for the Rugby Championship to start.

He’s been the best player in the world for a few seasons now in the XV-man code, and the French have been there or thereabouts for much longer than that without ever being able to win the whole tournament, so this is a kind of fitting and deserved result for them. Keep this up and we could just about see Dupont finally displacing Gareth Edwards as the greatest player the game has ever seen.
Best player I've ever watched live, that much is beyond doubt. Very special.

Beautiful game, beautiful players! Dupont is magic.
Dupont is only 27, whats he accomplished is absurb. The greatest rugby player debate is always a bit silly. Dupont is a special talent and is magic to watch. The man desrved to perform in front of his home country again and boy did he deliver when it mattered.

Tim, to me, you are the Antoine Dupont of Rugby on UA-cam!
Hear. Hear!
The tournament as a whole was memorable for all the right reasons. Close and dramatic matches and the fairytale ending, which doesn’t happen often in sport.
That was beautiful. Dupont came on and single-handedly ripped Fiji a new ars. ehole in a matter of seconds.
Fairytale, but thoroughly deserved on the performance right through
And a super humble guy too.
Maybe GaytonMcKenzie could alter that!
Dupont, certainly one of the best. When he retire he is going to make a spectacular coach with that rugby brain of his.

Congrats Blitsbokke proud of you🇿🇦🏉🏉🇿🇦
Thank you for your clear pronunciation which allows me, as a Frenchman, to understand you perfectly. Thank you for the passion you show: When we see geniuses like Dupont, Pelé, Wilkinson, Carter, Messi, Jordan, Ayrton Sena we must forget if they are French, English, Brazilian, Argentinian, American or NZ; We open our eyes and we savor
I loved the picture with the three teams mixed after the podium
Yes Tim, the BBC should be horribly ashamed of their coverage. Their website stated they will show ALL sevens games, the twist was; none of the knockouts were live. No red button live coverage, while showing volleyball and basketball. 😂 I can't comprehend it if I'm honest.
Need to connect to another countries TV using a VPN. Irish TV (RTE) showed final and obviously France did (france.tv). Although Irish TV never showed Irish games today. There is a lot of competing sports and the national broadcasters don't seemed to be able to cast live all events (I think it's a rights issue).
Shouldnt need to
You put up the wrong score in the graphic for the bronze medal match. Thanks for the great coverage as always. This Olympics made me like sevens more as well. DuPont is a historic talent

Sensational atmosphere- huge crowd . This is rugby . Congratulations to France
Antoine va revenir en équipe de XV maintenant qu'il a réalisé son objectif en 7 👍

Well done, Dupont, for winning the Gold for France.Well done, Blitzbokke, for the bronze medal.Well done
Ireland, for qualifying for the Olympics.England , you can try to qualify for the Olympics in another 4 years.😢
No arguments Tim.
He plays incredibly in the biggest games - MOM/MVP in Olympic final, Champions Cup final and Top 14 final in last couple of months alone.
Well done 🇫🇷. Oh Tim you really do need to get into 7s more. It’s like a smorgasbord of rugby.

I really like the 15-man game and its complexity, but the fairytale nature of France’s win at these Olympics was irresistible.
100% agree.
I am told in the earpiece that Antoine Dupont will also play winger in handball and play doubles in tennis.
And may be next president of france
Well deserved revenge from the stolen world cup. After the very biased decisions of the ref in the WC 1/4 finals Antoine decided to switch to 7's, a cleaner sport.
Love the way you spoke about this event.
I think it would be worth trialing forward passing in Rugby ;
A player may pass the ball forwards as long as the ball is recieved within the same marked area of the pitch and not beyond.
In the end zone defending side may block attacking players not just the ball carrier.
for me he is the goat...without any doubt. So what...it hurts the Anglo-Saxon world to recognize it loool^^ ...the title is all the better like that!...and i'm not French
Well done France...great rugby !

Best player I've ever seen live, no doubt about that. Absolutely in the conversation for greatest ever. Would probably get my vote!
Tim if you had to pick a sevens team for your own Olympics out of the teams that competed who would make your team and why

In fact, Toulouse have many internationals players (the best scottish, the best argentinian, the best italian, and Willis), but in this match he make an incredible try with shooting for himself).
Dupont.
😂 I have to agree it would be so awesome to see a heavy weight sevens tournament.
En VO, c'est toujours meilleur!
You should go to a 7s tournament sometime. Great fun
Dupont does make a difference but his game time is well managed
Officiating overall was crappy….you are so right.
I don't know who is the GOAT but I know who is my GOAT. And it is Antoine DUPONT.
Well done France, Blitzboks need to make some serious effort on getting back to were they were two years ago, new coach, unlucky Fiji but France at home hard to beat in front of all those fans 👍
