The A321XLR is a logical next step for Icelandair considering that they didn't have any other options though I would still like to see them replace their 767s with the 787-8.

To be fair the Boeing 757 was so unique that it was very expensive to build and when the orders started to slow down because the jet was so under appreciated….Boeing had no choice but to cease production. The production line has long since gone into other aircraft but the jet was built before its time 😢
@@semperjr Exactly. The airplane never sold well outside of North America and indeed was very expensive for them to make. It only sold 1000 units after more than 30 years of sales. It was always a niche aircraft. Boeing had no choice but to move on.
There's nothing to update to. The 737 MAX already has the range and capacity of the 757-200, as does the A321(LR/XLR). The 757-300 has slightly higher capacity, but it only sold about 55 units; the market for 275+ seat narrowbodies is too small to pursue.
@@mirzaahmed6589 That's not true. The MAX 9 and 10 which matches the capacity of the 757 are a good 1000 miles behind in range of the 757. That was actually one of the reasons why the 757 failed. It was too heavy to support that range it had for most applications.
I think it's the correct choice. Because, for comparison, Aer Lingus used to fly the Shannon - Boston route with a 757. A work colleague of mine has booked a flight on that route for August and, at the moment at least, it shows that he'll be on an A321.

@@johniii8147 They definitely had/have a business case for it (NMA) which was already made and requested by the airline industry. However with all the MAX troubles they simply could not afford to move forward with the program as they wanted to.
