In 2011, Kasey Kahne managed to grab 8 top 5s and 15 top 10s for Red Bull Racing. And Brian Vickers managed to grab 3 top 5s and 7 top 10s, which was Red Bull's best statistical year. Fun fact, 4 of Kasey's top 5 finishes were 4th place finishes. A little bit ironic, if you ask me. I'm probably sounding extremely stupid but I just thought I'd point that out. Great video Danny!

I was a huge TRB fan. I remember watching every practice and qualifying to see if they’d be fast enough to get in. It started out that they could never get in. Then slowly Vickers started being reliably quick. Allmendinger started qualifyingmore. I remember Vickers had a super run in the Coke 600 one year, running a crazy high line and having serious speed. I lost my ever loving mind when they finally won
I had a job opportunity at BK Racing in 2017. Doug Richet, who was the Competition Director at the time and Dale Earnhardt's Championship winning Crew Chief in 1980, wanted me to work there. I did 2 days of intern work. The first day I messed around on the car setup software program they used and on the second day, I did CAD work. It was kind of good that I didn't get the job there because I knew they wouldn't last long. Those guys though were really nice and I really liked them.
I'm really surprised Red Bull gave up on NASCAR so soon. Considering they spend MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars to fund not one, but two F1 teams, you'd think the 15-20 million it takes to run a NASCAR team each season would be like pocket change to them

Gray Gaulding wasn’t a bad driver, he just wasn’t given the right equipment up until 2019. Gaulding currently has 4 top 10s driving for SS Green Light Racing in 2019, something his teammate can’t say. When Gaulding gets sponsorship (like Patrick Mahomes at Bristol) he can run good.
Should also note that the guy who ran the Red Bull NASCAR team was former MB2 co-owner Jay Frye... Who is now president of IndyCar and is doing an incredible job bringing that series back to relevance
Agree they thought they could pump a lot of money into NASCAR and buy a Championship but NASCAR is not F1, you also have to have the backing of the largest auto co. (Toyota)and a bunch of NASCAR experts like TRD to finally win. Now NASCAR sucks just like F1

It always seemed that Brian Vickers got featured in GT5/GT6 on the Red Bull name value alone. When RB left NASCAR, the 2013 NASCARs in GT6 were down from 2010/11's 13 cars to 12 as his slot wasn't replaced.
John LaFever the Toyota thing is confusing to me because it seemed like in theory TRD had room for BK to simply replace Red Bull, TRD also dropped the 47 team that year while only adding the 15 so maybe they decided to cut way back and just drop 2 cars completely. TRD never replaced Red Bull in its lineup until years later, I wonder why Devine couldn’t get his team a spot

It seems like the actual issue TRD had with Devine was his lack of BK corporate backing. It would seem that after BK corporate left Devine hanging, TRD left him hanging as well, implying that the TRD/RBR partnership had existed more for the marketing partnership of Toyota and Red Bull than to actually compete, and that any future partnership with Devine’s team would have to be along the same lines, with a Burger King-Toyota being the primary partnership and the race team being second. Kind of like how Taco Bell does cross-promotions with other brands, not because the result tastes good, but because it lets both brands advertise to the other’s customers. I’ve always found this to be a shameful strategy in fast food, and it seems like a very shady way of doing business by TRD, essentially valuing brands over people. This BK-Red Bull business all went down in 2011-12, a decade earlier in 2001 a manufacturer would be shunned for treating a team owner like that (and they’d likely have to put someone new in charge of dealing with their nascar teams), they’d get a bad name, when the world of signing drivers and sponsors was all about relationships, handshake agreements, and most importantly reputations.
BK Racing made 520 entries, only scoring 3 top 10s. First in 2012 with Travis Kvapil finishing 8th at Talladega, Second in 2016 with Matt DiBenedetto finishing 6th at Bristol, and third in 2017 with Gray Gaulding finishing 9th at Talladega.
Red Bull was lucky enough to be able to buy two well established F1 teams that already had all of the infrastructure that was needed too run an F1 team successfully in the form of Minardi (Torro Rosso) and Benneton (Red Bull). I"m pretty sure that if they'd had too build an F1 team from scratch they would have given up and quit after a few years of trundling around in the bottom third of the midfield.

There is more to the fall of Red Bull Racing in Nascar. I knew some of the crew guys. Red Bull got upset with Nascar because they wouldn’t let them sell their product at races. They had an exclusive agreement with Coke. Not only that they weren’t even allowed to give it away as a promotion. They even gave them a hard time regarding the hospitality tents. This is typical Nascar stuff. Ask Racing Radios, Ingersoll Rand,ESPN (remember when they wouldn’t even let them on track property? They did interviews from parking lots? After all the support these companies put into promoting Nascar. The France family is just plain greed. And it will cost them.
Back in '09, several people on Racing-Reference called the 2009 rookie class "Moldy Bread & Scott Slow". Of course, things got a bit better for Logano...

Red Bull set AJ up for failure and then fired him as he was figuring it out. How do you take a kid out of champ car, which ran one oval a year and put him straight into cup without a season in ARCA/Trucks/xfinity, with a new team, and a new manufacturer and expect him to be successful? The fact that he was fired after a top 10 finish and a string of steadily improving finishes and replaced by a guy who was much worse cracks me up. If Red Bull was more patient with AJ and gave him time to develop they wouldn't have had those dead years with Speed. Basically the same crap they pull in F1. If they aren't immediate title contenders they get shit canned. Especially since the following couple years were AJ's best in Nascar giving RPM their best runs this decade. The fact he was 11th in points at the chase cut off in 2011 is what got him the Penske ride in 2012.

Team Red Bull #4 started as the #84. It was also formerly the 82. BK racing #23 started as 93. The #26 was disbanded. The #73 ran part time.

Brian Vickers and Red Bull has a very good year in 2009 and things were looking up. But as soon as Vickers got blood clots early on in 2010, it seems like that started the downfall of the entire team.

I think if Red Bull would've stuck with just one car and not three in a short time, then they possibly wouldn't see a problem with money, and possibly would've lasted longer, and maybe get better results in the long run.
There is more to the fall of Red Bull Racing in Nascar. I knew some of the crew guys. Red Bull got upset with Nascar because they wouldn’t let them sell their product at races. They had an exclusive agreement with Coke. Not only that they weren’t even allowed to give it away as a promotion. They even gave them a hard time regarding the hospitality tents. This is typical Nascar stuff. Ask Racing Radios, Ingersoll Rand,ESPN (remember when they wouldn’t even let them on track property? They did interviews from parking lots? After all the support these companies put into promoting Nascar. The France family is just plain greed. And it will cost them.

Red Bull set AJ up for failure and then fired him as he was figuring it out.
How do you take a kid out of champ car, which ran one oval a year and put him straight into cup without a season in ARCA/Trucks/xfinity, with a new team, and a new manufacturer and expect him to be successful?
The fact that he was fired after a top 10 finish and a string of steadily improving finishes and replaced by a guy who was much worse cracks me up. If Red Bull was more patient with AJ and gave him time to develop they wouldn't have had those dead years with Speed. Basically the same crap they pull in F1. If they aren't immediate title contenders they get shit canned.
Especially since the following couple years were AJ's best in Nascar giving RPM their best runs this decade. The fact he was 11th in points at the chase cut off in 2011 is what got him the Penske ride in 2012.
