@João Belo if cycling pulse did it first it does not mean no bodie else is alowd to do videos about them . After all gcn's content , rubish or not , helped me trough the years and other 1.6 milion leople
I love these guys, talk about disruptive in a good way, they're showing how everything needs to evolve and it isn't the big mega-organizations that will do it, its people who are not held back or pushed down. The human spirit wants to evolve when it's unburdened by the crap of telling people what they "should" do, instead, let them discover by motivating them with autonomy, mastery and purpose.
All their uninterrupted banter is nice, but this really needed some interjection from the presenter/editors to set up what they're talking about in each bit. It feels undercooked. They've adopted some disruptive positioning strategy - tell me what the old one was, what their new one entails, why the old one was so dominant, what's the secret sauce that led them to discover the new one, etc. They're a trade team in a setting dominated by national teams - what's the context here, and why aren't they just on the GB team since they're all GB athletes? I need some help understanding why they're "creating a stir" instead of just listening to them talk shop.
Ollie another great job of presentation. And the story of attacking the world records from a mathematical standpoint is fantastic. I wish their team all the best.
Kudos for one of your coolest, geekiest video in a long time. You've found another scientist who is able to explain clearly about data, please bring him back.
Thanks for bringing up track cycling, there is so much going on and it is never even mentioned in the show, maybe 3 or 5 seconds some times. This is refreshing!
One of the best GCN videos. Massive kudos to Huub wattbike, shame the cycling establishment, even in Britain, is still massively hidebound and not snapping these guys up
Fascinating. To dismantle a goal into its thousand constituent parts, understand them all, and then string them all together....better than anyone else has.
The amount of data to be processed to be this good must be a huge task alone... great content in this episode definitely worth a couple of rewatches... 😎
Excellent video Ollie I'm starting to think that you and Dan are secret lovers. In all seriousness though these guys rock both academically in their approach to the fine details and in their passion and commitment to this great sport. It's truly brilliant to see it all unfold and watch them getting the results they richly deserve. I haven't enjoyed watching track racing this much since the epic battles of Obree, Boardman and Burrows vs the UCI and the rest of the best in the 90's.
Great to see the application of: pure talent grit and balls; such bravery and self-belief, their understanding and application of knowledge that enabled them to aim for such lofty goals for mere mortals and smash them enroute to the next World Record. Peace n Love peeps!
Thanks, Ollie, for shining a spotlight on these gents. And for the world stage, it'd be great if they got an invite from Barbados as adopted sons. And maybe they could share some tips with the Jamaican bobsledders :)
Yeah cool.... maybe having the fastest individual pursuit rider on your team has something to do with it..... oh yeah and you might want to update that Team world record time...... BOOM!!!
As someone who hasn't heard of this team before, it just seemed like they said nothing of substance. They say they're ripping up the rule book, but what have they done? Apart from changing up the order or turns, what do they actually do that is different? There was a lot of talking but not much information.
Ockie13 huge gains made on the tech side of things. Nutrition and training too. Dan does lots of aero testing which is hugely important for optimizing position and equipment.
@Oliver Bridgewood That sounds fascinating, and the actual story behind the team seems really interesting. I liked the video but it felt like they glossed over those things. Though I guess that would be content more for a GCN tech video Edit, I've just seen there's GCN tech videos on the bike. I take everything back!
@@arbitor412 There are other UA-cam videos about some of the other stuff they do - search for Huub. Aside from all the technical stuff, they also challenged a lot about how one should ride the event, not just switching the order. Eg most track teams aimed to get 4 guys round whereas these guys have a pinch hitter who launches them off the line, does a massive turn, and then peels off completely done in. They don't change the lead rider as often because each time you change you lose a bike length. They worked hard to get Archibald on properly at the back at the start, because then he can do the last few laps and the other 2 have to hang onto him - most national teams would just discard someone who struggles to get on for the first lap. I'm sure there are many more as well.
@@duncanmartin2626 Thank you for explaining. I didn't understand that from the video. I'm not an expert on track racing or British accents, so I was fairly lost.
Great stuff more of this please. I would appreciate names of riders on screen when they first appear in the interview style pieces, its probably just my age.
Super likeable guys. I have no clue what they are talking about and I honestly didn't understand have of what they said, but they seem on to something. Best of luck folks. Records are made to be broken. So get at it.
You need to think at world record pace to take in what these guys say. They are a breath of fresh air. Hopefully the UCI won't start clipping their wings. great video Ollie, bet the PHD came in handy to understand them.
Maybe make an edit of this where we hear the guys speak, and then Oli pauses the video to explain what they are even talking about. The tiny bit I understood was amazing.
Amazing story! I'll definitely be following their fortunes. Derbados will never not be funny. I rode out to Parbold in Lancashire one day and saw a sign for Parbados and couldn't stop laughing all the way back.
Something about this reminds me of what Formula one teams were like in the 1960s. Just a bunch of inspired people innovating in ways they can improving their machines that were built in a shed(perhaps not a shed in this case), looking for new ways to be the best but doing it on a small scale going up against the big guns. Think Jack Brabham or Bruce McLaren and how they started small teams that went on to beat the likes of Ferrari, Lotus and Mercedes, these guys are doing the same. People have thought that the increases in need for funding, technology and time had put an end to small independent teams being able to make it on the big stage but these guys are proving that wrong.
@@heytreacle you've gotta look beyond the Gooch n' think outside the box, start picking away at those dingleberries there's many hidden nuggets of gains to be had.
Interestingly there are lots of people having difficulties with the british accent. As a German learning British English in school I find it very easy and I love the dialect.
im currently trying to do a series like this on my channel. Low budget(less than 1k), proper work out(sourced from u guys/internet), below average rider(serious! 180ftp). Trying to prove what a bit of consistency and the will to do it will achieve.
Gcn is starting to bring back quality content

@João Belo most stupid thing i´ve heard today...
That was a rippa interview. The lads are chucking out the manual and it's refreshing. Respect.
Good lord, I thought these guys were cool before, but holy shit. Absolute legends!!!

Best sports interview I've seen in ages. No PR BS, just 2 knowledgable and passionate blokes answering questions honestly.
I might need to watch that again I was not smart enough to take it all in one go. Check on these guys again later will you please.

It wasn't meant to be an in-depth analysis and I doubt they would have agreed to that anyway.
Agreed. No need for them to divulge any secrets. Just a bit of basic context from the presenters would make the video much more comprehensible.
Yes quite bizarre, Olly is awestruck, no probing questions just Duhh'style... quite prolific across GCN.
Yup. No inquisitive nature at all. Just amaayyzing data

Being very analytical and applying what is learnt into action is superb 👍

Best GCN video in a long time!
The UCI changed the rules on teams
They are no more
The HUUB - Wattbike story is awesome. This sort of thing really makes me want to continue to support the two companies too, excellent stuff.
the dude on the left is in love with the dude on the right... lol
First thing i noticed haha
How inappropriate comment
Obsessed, i say.
ffs I've been outed by GCN
I just think he has a lot of fast twitch muscles, even in his face.
So pleased you supported them with this coverage! Such great guys! Socking it to the bike-MAN!
Incredible, never had much knowledge about track cycling, but those power numbers, wow. Incredible!
Great content - I was hooked the whole time. Good lucks, love it how people chase their dreams like this. No obstacle is big enough :)

This is a fantastic video. I listened to these guys on The Cycling Podcast last month and thought.....superb.
Excellent stuff 👍👍👍👍
Thanks David!
Surprised to see good content again love the HUUB team
Knew these guys from cycling pulse

Cool. Funny. Professional. Talented. Thoroughly nice chaps and a great video.
WOW... what a story! Amazing use of "organic coaching" and real performance improvement
Proud to have studied in Darbados. These boys are doing fantastic things for the city
Those guys look straight out of Hogwarts. Anyone else think Dang Bigham looks like Harry Potter? Their secret to success is wizardry!
Interesting story, Ollie! Progress in many things comes from the fresh viewpoint of a newbie.

Slightly surreal seeing this. I used to go on holiday with one of these guys as a kid.
