- American Reacts to Bottom Live: Bloopers Part 1
In this video I react to part one of bloopers from Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson's Bottom live show. These bloopers are hysterically funny.

Ade Edmondsons quote from when Rik died
“There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing. They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish b*****d."
R.I.P Rick
Fantastic Quote 👍👍 and very fitting 🤗🤗🤗
I seen that. He looked so miserable when he carried his coffin. Bless him. RIP Rik
You've seen the emotion for Sean Lock, Rik Mayall's passing was another painful one for the nation.
So true😔
I know only 56 it's very sad rip Rik you bastard.
It still hurts the heart that rik is gone . He is missed world wide.
My one claim to fame - when I went to Uni, Rik's sister was doing the same degree, but one year above.
Rik, you are still sadly missed, bud.
@@fatlad5090 I read that insult in his voice subliminally in my head… “you bAAH- stard” even though my accent is far from that (I’m l live in Cumbria) so it would normally have been read as something like “you Bha- sturd”… that’s how deeply instilled his insult is in my mind 🤣
RIP Lord Flashheart
These two were just made for each other. The chemistry was real and their friendship solid. Bottom was typical anarchic British humour.
I didn't even realise just how many shows they where in together, Filthy Rich and Catflap, The Dangerous Brothers, Young Ones. I think the only exception to these two's magic was the movie, that was terrible. lol
@Olly O the Dangerous Brothers pre-dated either of those shows & was the real inspiration for Bottom.
@Olly O it's probably nearer 40. Which makes me feel really old.
But Ade didn’t want to work with Ric in later years, it was a bit sad
@@roguekiller23231 and The Comic Strip Presents...
The comment about Stephen Fry was because he was doing a play with Rik, and he walked out and disappeared for a while and was found in Belgium in a disguise. It later turned out he had a nervous breakdown. That wasn't discovered until after this was done
The play was the 1995 production of Simon Gray's Cell Mates, adding another level of relevance in the context of the sketch.
It wasn't a breakdown as such, Steven Fry is bipolar and he didn't know it at the time. This was just one of his regular depressed states where he would sometimes just run off for months.
The Bottom live shows are amazing, hooligans island is my favourite. Even knowing what happens i still cry with laughter. The chemistry those guys had on stage was incredible
Haha hahaha haha hahahahaha WHATEVER!
It was the funniest because of all the things that went wrong...props breaking or not working properly, and their reactions to it (I'm thinking of the seagull that was meant to s**t on Ade, but was slow to appear, so he cannily tried to avoid standing on his mark, which Rik happened to spot, telling him off!). Then there's Rik getting a really bad case of the giggles for 5 minutes straight. And the giggles are notoriously infectious! Once one person starts, it's almost certain someone else will too! And Ade's duck like responses are just as funny - calm on the surface, paddling away like a maniac underneath, trying to think up a way to get out of it! Out of all the live shows, I think this one is the one that shows just how close a friendship the two had.
Whenever I hear results of "Nations funniest double acts" surveys, its always The Two Ronnies, Morecambe & Wise, French & Saunders, on the list. Rik Mayall & Adrian Edmundson almost never feature. Or when the do, they are very low down, when they should be far higher. It's as if people forget about them, despite the success of The Young Ones or Bottom. Then when you remind them, it's almost always an "oh my god! I forgot about them! They're so good! Why weren't they included?" reaction. And Rik & Ade should never, ever, EVER, chart lower than Ant & Dec, who aren't even comedians or comedy writers. All they do is read from an autocue! How do they even make it onto these lists to begin with??
Years ago, my brother was on a flight with Rik on the same flight. He says he was the most natural funniest people he has ever heard or been in the presence of. Became an instant fan afterwards. Had the whole plane laughing from beginning to end.
Mate I would be hyperventilating in the presence of Rik
I was at 2 of the live shows and we were in tears. Rik and Ade were childhood heroes for me, I was practically raised on The Young Ones and Bottom.
They did a movie as these characters too, called Guest House Paradiso. Rik Mayall also did a great political satire called The New Statesman. Love these guys, R.I.P. Rick.
Guest House Paradiso is brilliant.
Cannot believe Rik is gone, such an irreplaceable talent, genius comic. The best Bottom Live blooper isnt on there though, must be in part 2. From the first show and they both completely breakdown. Amazing
I think it's a separate video : Rik and Ade break character.
i don’t often feel ‘properly’ sad when a celebrity passes away because obviously i don’t actually know them as real people but the passing of rik absolutely devastated me. he truly was an incredibly kind, funny, talented man and we missed out on so much when he left too early.
Better to shine bright and live on than through death old and fade away
I’m glad you love our Rik, he’s greatly missed ❤️
It's nice to see an American who enjoys and actually gets our sense of humour - this is British comedy at its finest :)
Rick and Ade were just an amazing duo
Rik as lord flashheart in Blackadder is an example of his manic energy and show stealing brilliance.
If you enjoy "Bottom" you'll love "The Dangerous Brothers" - it's a series of sketches featuring Rik and Ade as a pair of psychopathic stuntmen. It's pre-Bottom, very rough around the edges but very, very funny!
I'd totally forgotten that, gotta go re watch now
Although I would say maybe skip that until after watching Bottom as they used some of their Dangerous Brothers jokes in Bottom and they were funnier in Bottom because they were more experienced actors at that stage and able to pull them off better.
@@SadPeterPan1977 That's probably a very good suggestion.
Sir Edward dangerous!
Mr jolley lives next door? The comic Strip presents film. Hilarious!
RIP Rik Mayal, the comic Legend.
My favourite of the live shows was Live 3: Hooligans Island, some clips were featured in this vid. But the best cock up happened in Act 1 which left Rik in a giggle fit for ages.
yeah i agree, ade's genius shines through, R.I.P. true comedy legend
It was so sad that Rik Mayall died aged only 56.
When The Young Ones TV show came out in The Eighties it was a breath of fresh air. Even my Dad who was born in 1933 found it hilarious.
same!my late step father was born in 1930, he was in disbelief watching these guys since I got the dvd package of Bottom and put it on Christmas weekend of 2006 I believe!
The young one's is worth checking out, rik and abe in the early days :)
They don't even edit the live ones, all these bloopers are there intact in the shows, also as the great lord flash heart once said "Woof"
R.i.p Rick
Kevin Turvey Investigates is worth a watch also, just rik on his own but still comedy gold
YES, holy crap yes! Other than myself and my father, I have never met anybody who knows about Kevin Turvey. Brilliant.
@@baronvonthrophousen5930 I do, kick up the eighties. :)
Ack-cheloi, i think you'll find you're not the only one. ;)
@@baronvonthrophousen5930 add me to the list and remember, "Kevin's ear!" My particular favourite was his investigation into aphrodisiacs - it was easy to find in the dictionary as it was near to the front - then struggling to get powdered rhino horn from the zoo, he settled on feeding his girlfriend washing powder without the success he had hoped for. A brilliant character that could have gone so much further.
@@richardhunter7363 this is the aaaaaaaaaage……of the train!
My favourite series of live shows across any platform and genre ever.
I saw these two live, I have never laughed so much.... I was at the Bristol show shown and I was crying with laughter all the way through !!!!
The clips are hilarious, man I'm loving your laugh, and if that alone puts a smile on viewers faces like it has mine, then GREAT JOB👍❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸
Same here, his laugh cracks me up everytime
Yup lol
I lost count of the days I spent in school, dog tired and falling asleep at my desk because I'd been up all night watching Bottom Live on late night TV...
I've been lucky enough to be in the audience of their live shows, some of the best performances I've ever seen. One time Ade's entrance on stage (via emerging from inside a fridge) took about 10mins because of all the applause he got each time he opened the door.
You would absolutely love those stage shows. The first one is probably the best thing they ever did
Ade Edmondson was on Alan Davies untitled recently. He told the tale of how Joni Mitchell saw him in a studio once, and gave him a huge kiss on the lips. Turned out Vivien was her favourite character in the Young ones. Ade was melting as he told the story.
Thankyou for this. Rik and Ade are so close to my heart, watching you laugh at them made me so happy. Fantastic reaction, your laugh never disappoints.
Sadly this is the last of great british comedy. There will never be another duo like this fantastic comedians.
I’m a huge Bottom fan. I love seeing you appreciate this amazing comedy duo
"Gas" my favourite episode amongst many others.
Whoever recommended this deserves a pat on the back. Hilarious!
I think about 4000 of us did!
I love it when he forgets his lines, and Ade taunts him about it...a lot ! 😋
All of the live shows are amazing worthy of a binge repeatedly
I love these 2 together..... R.I.P Rik, gone way too soon 😪
Oh.. I was hoping you'd just watch the live shows after finishing the series. The live shows are all up on UA-cam and have been for years btw so you should be able to do full length reactions to those without issue.
Sad day when we lost Rik.
Can't wait to see you react to all the live show fully, there pretty much all up on here.
" I don't come round to where you work and laugh at you" LMAO
I was fortunate to see these live back in the day. I nearly ruptured my stomach howling with laughter
Such a great duo. Rik left such a legacy. I was lucky to see him live a million moons ago and will never forget how funny he was.
All the full live shows should be on UA-cam, they are hilarious.
Last time I checked they were on UA-cam. Luckily I've got them all on DVD
Bottom is one of my favourite shows. Brings back so many good memories of the 90's when I was a kid and me and my friend would take the VHS tape from his dad's cupboard to watch it. Nice to watch these clips with you! I'll have to have another Bottom binge next weekend
You can’t find a better pair than ade edmondson and Rik mayall …. Bottom and the young ones were the best shows
I was lucky enough to see them live in st albans many years ago they were brilliant
You have got to check out all 5 live shows of Bottom. They’re brilliant.
The live shows are amazing. There are a few of them. Everytime I feel a bit down I watch one and am certainly cheered up 👍👍
The show on the Island is Bottom 3 - Hooligans Island. Rik & Ad were friends since college and have made comedy gold such as Bottom, The Young Ones and The Dangerous Brothers.
Rik was in one of my favourite movies of all time, Drop Dead Fred.
Great reaction
Rik talking about his role in the Harry Potter movie is a gem that's worth a look.
Wait what???? He was in Harry Potter??
@@animatechap5176 he played peeves but the scenes got cut.
@@UKHazzie Yes because he upstaged everybody else !
The thing with Rick he was a quick witted comedian legend right until his untimely demise, he’s sadly missed by a lot of fans including myself.
Miss that man so much. Absolutely cried my eyes out when he died.
I had the privilege watching these two live at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2003 for their final live tour, Brilliant, never laughed so much, they break character so much, and the crowd interaction is brilliant from them both.
Oh dude! I’m so pleased you enjoy this. Rik is so missed. He was taken far too early. Comic genius.
The great thing about these bloopers is that they weren't cut from the released videos. You get the full live experience.
Your giggles ave made my day so much brighter.... Love it man and the content. So glad you are enjoying British comedy in all of it's various forms. Keep up the good work and we will keep on watching.
WELCOME THE BEST BEST OF BRITISH COMEDY ... i grew up with bottom and alittle part of me died when rik died :( he was defo one of a kind and will be forever missed
It is always the feeling that they are their for your and their fun. Just feeling included with them.
The island one is bottom 3 live my personal fave
You look like you had fun with this one! Check out the Phoenix Nights bloopers too, if you get chance. 👍
Great to see more Bottom reactions on your channel. Hope you get around to reacting to more episodes of the show soon. Same with The Inbetweeners. Then again, I suppose you may need a bit more time to recover from laughing so hard lol.
These 2 together were always amazing
That part are he says “very much so young man” and “say that again” got me good! 😂
Brilliantly funny. You’d love Richie and Eddie get out of character
Told you !! Never seen you laugh like that before, you really enjoyed it. The Live show Southampton is even better. Two very talented guys..
I found the train station
I spent a lot of my years as a child laughing my ass off to these two, bottom live 2 is prob one of my favourite comedies to this day and I regularly go back and watch the series again. Rik was a comedic genius and a great part of comedic history died with that man RIP.
Also the part about Bristol, his accent was pretty much bang on we do sound like that and we loves our cider round yer lol
A man who loves his comedy! Bottom was bloody good!
Bottom Live was always amazing to go see. But, Bottom Live 3: Hooligans Island was on another level!!
Rik Mayall passing was such a huge loss for comedy.
As someone who lives in Yorkshire, it’s great to see the White Rose behind you!!!
I was there live great show , rip Rick 👍🤘
Was lucky enough to see ALL the LIVE shows ..LIVE!......Sides ached all evening and even the next day!...So funny.. RIP Rik.
Another truly beautiful entertainer lost too soon. 🙏
Many years ago I was lucky to watch the first live show when it toured and then on vhs when it came out, the bloopers were identical to the ones I'd seen in the Cambridge show, even though they filmed the visual in a different city and it was at that point I realised the bloopers are all scripted, which makes their comedy genius even more impressive.
Where has this UA-cam channel been hiding
Best channel I've come across covering best stuff
Saw Bottom live in the '90s in Ipswich as well as Billy Connolly and Reeves and Mortimer, great times. 🏴
you really should check out The young ones . also if you can, have a look into Comedy Connections it's a series of programmes that explains the connections between british comedy shows from the early 50's right through to modern day .
went to the live show in Glasgow when I was in my teens and on break saw Rik at the bar, what an amazing show, was in hysterics.
The live shows did not have the restrictions that tv put on them and those 'bloopers' are actually in the shows.
RIP Rik Mayall. Comedic genius
Your reactions and laughing make this video better than the original Bottom bloopers one, cheers bro 👍🙏
Rik and Ade could turn an hour long show into 2 hours and you would split your sides start to finish.
I went to see them on the last date of a tour and the crew had moved all the props around, it was hilarious
I loved Rik Mayall as Kevin Turvey.
I've watched this a million times and it never gets boring. Comedy genius! All the best from the uk dude.
I was lucky enough to get to see Bottom 3 Live in Manchester. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Halfway through a woman by the stage got up to go to the toilet. Aide stopped the show, walked to the front of the stage and said, pointing at the woman who left, she's gone tho the toilet to frigg her self over me. The whole place erupted with laughter. Then 5 mins later when she returned Aide stopped the play again and walked to the front of the stage saying nothing and pointed to her and sniffed his middle finger, the place went up like a bomb and she had no clue, I'm still laughing now....
Excellent! RIP Rick!
'Sophisticated Oxford'.
...Yeah, sounds about right to me! ;)
You need two CD Box Sets: 'Bottom - the TV Series' and 'Bottom - the Live Shows' (which includes their feature film, "Guest House Paradiso").
Your laughter is really contagious, man. Thanks for keeping the funny going.
I saw Bottom 2 live at the Bristol Hippodrome in the nineties, the f**k ups were the funniest moments!
Still the best night I ever spent in a theatre Rik is god x
Watched them at Manchester Apollo - An arse oddity. Laughed so much my ribs felt like I'd taken a beating 💓happy days
love the line weve got a plot this year have we ,gold
I was fortunate enough to see these live
Bottom Live 3:Hooligans Island is hilarious. "Le danger, le nuclear bomb - oh shit Eddie, its all in French"
Bottom Live 1, 2 & 3 are the absolute best. Plus they are all on UA-cam so they shouldn’t be a problem when it comes to reactions.
I saw the Bottom Stage Show. Hysterical!
Aaahh my god the series and all live shows are amazing. My favourite comedy duo. Great chemistry and best friends
I don't know if anybody has posted this yet. Allan, have you watched "The Young ones" Thats when Rik and Ade first started
nah.i believe they first worked together as .the dangerous brothers.
dynamite down the pants explodo
They started as 20th Century Coyote (1976) which is when Ade and Rik first met, they then went on to The Dangerous Brothers (1980) before moving on to Young ones (1982), although it is rather hard to find. There's also The comic Strip presents Bad News (1983) and The Comic Strip Presents More Bad News (1983) two 30-ish minute mini-movies about a punk-rock band, similar to Spinal Tap, but came out about a year beforehand.
@@MetalHeadReacts Don't forget A Fistful of Traveller's Cheques.
Rik isn’t dead we will still remember him through the shows and movies.
You really have to watch the live shows! My favorite is Hooligan's Island, you'll love it! :)
The amazing thing about watching these guys live was the fact that the bloopers were actually part of the script.
My favorite thing about the BOTTOM LIVE shows is that it's all fresh, original material. They don't just redo a bunch of TV episodes or deleted scenes like so many comedies when they go on stage.
Great video :) they’re hilarious but you laughing is also great to pick up the mood of the day!
I had the great fortune of going to all the live shows, and there was never a time that the phrase "Have a w*nk" wasn't thrown out regularly.
