    A revisit to the mudflats to showcase another solid example of liquefaction. All it takes is some light disturbance to create some sticky quicksand. Warning: Playing with quicksand is dangerous. Understand the risks before attempting anything like this. Enjoy!

      @@EE9EER that's your interpretation. Not a valid observation.
      He sunk in a bit more than some seconds before, so to free himself cost more effort and more time. Afterwards he went on further messing around. No clear hesitation visible. The other video ended after 2.5min as well.
      So yes, maybe he was a bit anxious, but there is no clear sign.

    This video demonstrates the non-Newtonian properties of quicksand very well - at first, the mixture of sand, silt and water is very rigid and it takes quite some effort to force the branch down, and even more effort to move it, but as the mixture becomes more and more agitated, it demonstrates decreasing viscosity and increaing elasticity!

    • @no-ts4mo

      I think non-newt9nian is the opposit effect innit?

    • @LincolnDWard
      @LincolnDWard Місяць тому

      @@no-ts4mo Non-Newtonian just means the viscosity isn't constant, so some non-Newtonian fluids change viscosity in response to pressure, some in response to agitation, etc.

    Most Jamaicans have been familiar with liquefaction for a long time. We got a first hand lesson (in Tsunamis as well) way back in 1692. Most of Port Royal is still under water as a result & there's a constant reminder turned attraction called the Giddy House, which is basically a building still half sunk in the sand, permanently at an angle (standing in it makes you feel "giddy", hence the nickname).

Well, instead of getting an explanation alongside examples, what I got is a guy who, presumably, props a videocam atop a tripod with duck feet so it won't sink, and proceeds to use himself as a sinking example of what is beyond dumb to approach on one's own. Bravo. But what do you do for an encore?
