  • We love looking at old buildings and wondering what they were or could be. Anderson, SC has many interesting buildings with a lot of character.

The service station was an Amoco. As a small boy in the early 1970s I remember it had a car wash in the far bay. The water nozzle was in the shape of a seahorse!

The service station belonged to my grandfather, Meredith "Vick" Vickery in the 1950s and early 60s

The old apartment building with the window units is Wil-Mary. The apartments are only $395 a month and that price includes power and water and an on-site maintenance man. My mom lived there for awhile up until a month ago.

Thanks! I love buildings like that. We drove around to the front and saw the sign, but were not sure about any other details.

The Wil-Mary is for senior citizens. It's not as nice as you'd think. Bed bugs are common in the building. Also the floors are heated through a boiler and sometimes the thing doesn't work right. The floors get too hot to the point it will burn you during the winter and it heats up those small rooms very quickly. It's comfortable if it worked right. It used to be a hotel so the rooms are only one and two bedrooms and quite small. I wish they would do more to make it a better place for seniors to call home.

@@Rhotatochip my mama loved it there and never had any issues. I was there every single day to help her. She stayed on the 6th floor then after a year moved to the 2nd because she was afraid if there was ever a fire she wouldn’t be able to do the stairs. The heat always worked great for her. The only reason she eventually left is she kept falling. She passed away at my home a few months after I made my first post.
