I lived in Sydney in 1996-1998. Went to the Cross so many times, and mostly had great fun there; mainly bar-hopping and clubbing. And I remember often walking all the way back home (Annandale) from the Cross; drunk, at around 4 or 5 am :) Good old times. Sad to see the place like this :(

Wow! Couldn't even imagine this happening to Kings Cross! That would be the FIRST place we'd go to when we were in Sydney. We'd all meet up at Bourbon and Beefsteak, get on with whatever and stay out all night. I met a really nice girl at B & B and we crashed at her place up at Bondi. So many memories of Kings Cross - all of them pretty darn good ones.
I hope for Sydney’s sake it does. But I don’t think Melbourne’s going to go back to shutting down at six just to oblige Sydney. Both cities deserve to have a vibrant and active scene.
From the US, but I remember visiting Kings Cross back in 1989 when I was 16 years old and backpacking Australia. It was a blast back then! This hardly looks like the same place...
Australia has turned from a laid back place that could trust you to be responsible into an overprices over regulated nanny state that tries to ban everything because 000.1% of people are/were idiots.

Such a shame.RIP KINGS CROSS !!!!!
From January 2020 the lockout laws have been lifted and Sydney has plans to become a 24 hour city, just like it should be, interesting times ahead... ✌🏼😎
The lockout laws are only part of the problem. Low wage growth, and the high cost of living in Sydney means that many people simply don’t have the money available to have a decent night out in Kings Cross. So instead they simply go to their local liquor store and watch Netflix at home.
This is what happens when NLP is in state govt for way too long!! Introducing QLD Lockout Laws in NSW!! The problem is that we the people from NSW don't go out till midnight & fuckers in QLD are asleep by then 😆 so it ended up being a slow painful death for our Beloved KXross 😢 Moral Cleansing & Purgery!! I'm from a city of 80,000 in the west of Ireland and it looks 10 times busier than here. Sometimes so busy it can be hard to walk around the streets at night and there's always good craic.
Holy shit. I traveled and stayed in the Cross way back in 2001. Worked on the door at Kings Cross Hotel / Buddah's Bar. This place looks like a Ghost Town now. How come?
In 2014 lockout laws were introduced and totally killed the nightlife... However, the laws were changed in January 2020, so nightlife will return... Once things start pumping again, I will post some videos...
I just came back from Sydney, heard alot of this area but never went there, looks a little like a version of Berlins party area, saw some clip from the 80s and 90s and look like a fun place, sad that is has died out.
I havent set foot in KC since NYE 2015 at candys and it was still kinda busy but looking at it now its kind of sad. You can still have a good time in sydney but it was alot more convenient in KC. So many clubs and bars confined on one road.
