A lot of government housing in WIndale as been sold. The Bronx of Hamilton South now is way worse especially Hassall and Fowler Sts.

2:34 This is Omara St. I Used to live in Margaret St a block further in from here when I was a student at Newcastle Uni back in 1993-94 and yes it was a fairly rough place.
I used to catch the bus to the Uni from a bus stop across the road from where this image was taken.

I am a resident of Hamilton South and have been for the last 15 years you know what it might not be the best place to live but it's not as bad as what one would think we are definitely not in comparison with Macquarie Hills the only thing that might look similar is the buildings and yes there are some problems here but it takes a strong person to live where there is one man's floor is another man's roof and another thing people that live in these areas get judged and people are not all criminals in fact Hamilton South has a lot of nice people here they have had unfortunate lives not all people lucky to have their own homes and their own choices but I am grateful for what I have and if you were to go around and ask any elderly people that live here in Hamilton South they will tell you that they like it here and wouldn't swap for the world it isn't for the faint hearted and I would live here in Hamilton South before I lived in any of the other four suburbs maybe you should do a video on Hamilton South and the hardships and the people here because the stigma needs to change people need to stop being judged by their location
So true. I worked in the bottle shop in Hamilton south in the late 90s. Even the hardest parts of houso areas are nothing like those in Sydney.
All well and good for the people who have lived in the area for years. I agree there's good and bad in every suburb. Unfortunately for those people, especially families with children who have been pushed out of the rental market due to exorbitant costs of living, something needs to be done about the self entitled A#@* holes who believe they can treat new people to the area like 💩 because they've been there longer!! Time people stop accepting this unsociable self entitled behaviour and get rid of the scum bags so our children can be given a safe, healthy environment to grow.
Nah the whole area is uninhabitable and just like the dark place where the hyenas live in The Lion King. Tell all your friends, don't come here 😂
Yeah what he said, Newcastle, it's awful, crack addicts everywhere, really cold and there's nothing to do.. The beaches suck, can't find a policeman anywhere, no education standards & you'll probably drown inside a bullshark if you're not careful.
Go to Gosford or Ourimbah, it's beautiful and people are sober living, hard working and very friendly.
Chatea Lea way was the tamest street in Hamo South, still the ghetto, but not as bad as others around it. Or at least it wasn’t when I was growing up in there
I’m living in Shortland now. Lots has changed since I moved here in 2007. Lock your cars and house at night. Newcastle is overall a great city. I find everything I need without leaving the LGA.

You know what it is Placid you can hear a pin drop on any given night even New Years Eve there's no visual violence everyone's friendly and is no comparison to anywhere in Sydney sadly last couple of months City's going downhill because people from are the areas hanging around but the people themselves here not the problem 9 times out of 10 it's outside problems like last week's stolen BMW gets dumped in Hamilton South but the people that stole it we're not from here
I grew up in airds, lived in mayfield even the worst Newcastle housos are tame in comparison.

I was pretty accurate until you mentioned Fennell Bay, sure its git some problems but i've never heard of it being known for hig DV rates. I think you it confused with Bolton point which is notorious for those problems. Lol

I worked Newcastle an lived in cameron pk for 14 years ,i regretted having a house build there the street finished up full of drug dealers an inbreds ,there ar still some nice people there an as soon as i retired my wife an i sold up an now live in portmaqarie an we love it .

A great place as is Bar Beach, Merewether, Junction. So many great suburbs in this town. Value for money would be a little further west.
I hate Newcastle as I gotta work in the area from Sydney and now know it better than Sydney but still wouldn’t live up there

Newcastle has some of the largest cancer clusters in the country. Best advice, stay ay least 50 km away from any Defence facilities or any areas that were Defence facilities. Source CSIRO. Carinogens include PFAS. There are far better places to live.
That is definitely a problem in the Williamtown area. Has the govt fixed it yet?
