Very valuable experience...with all the keys to memorize, minor thirds, transposing to guitar keys, on and on.... after weeks of studying and trying I've learned to not even think of playing with others...just enjoy solo improv created of ones own sounds.

Thank you for this lesson! Super nice licks for the call & response! I have basically chosen this tune as my introduction to playing jazz blues. I notice that in "Blues Walk" Lou Donaldson often ends phrases on the 6th (B natural on alto), but during phrases the Bb is more predominant.

It helped much as being Guitar blues / rock primary but into sax sounds with Grant Green influence with Lou and others this helped navigate the alto .
The tendency was to play the motif in the lower octave and reaching into higher octave to accentuate a phrase with notes that did not sing .
It lacked alto high register and now with familiar sounds of Lou the playing makes sense and upper octave pinching up can at last make use of alto sound .
Thanks it is a eureka moment here .
Sadly but that’s blues … happy and sad stories .

I love Lou Donaldson and thank you for the highlight on the role of b5 and getting away from endlessly searching up and down the scale for something to say. I came in through the bebop door and think you should do a future video on mixing bebop phrases with blue scale phrases a la Dizzy and other masters. Can you say where in NC he went to school? This state has produced so many giants - Coltrane, Nina Simone, and Diz actually from Cheraw, SC but went to his first music school in Laurinburg.

Doc really enjoyed this masterclass, Lou Donaldson is a supreme sax player nobody sounds like him. People have always told me to learn the blues however if not used like the greats it’s an extremely hard sound to master properly, so I never really use it. I really enjoyed the call and response on this one more please. P.s. are you enrolling anytime soon.
