  • An L-Bracket is indispensable if you want to quickly switch your camera between landscape and portrait orientation. For my Nikon Z6, I chose the SmallRig 2258 bracket.
    In this short video, I install and show the L-bracket in action.

    Do you use an L-bracket; if so, which one?
    There's a couple of things I neglected to mention in this video: There are two versions of the bracket, this 2258 model and the 2947, which does away with threads for the FTZ support adapter (2244), is accordingly slimmer, and uses flathead mounting screws. I also didn't mention that the 2258 comes with a built-in Allen wrench, held in place on the bottom of the bracket magnetically.
    The 2258 (and I presume the 2947) are designed to allow easy access to the battery compartment.

    • @pjc3163
      @pjc3163 2 роки тому

      I noticed all sellers advertise the 2258 model as only compatible with the Z6 & Z7 cameras whereas the 2947 is also compatible with the Z5. I assume that physically the Z cameras are basically the same. I would prefer the 2258 model. Thank you for the video.

      @@pjc3163 I'm not 100% sure what's going on, only that there's some kind of "conflict" -- with different country supples. I still have a Canadian link for the 2947:

      Just stumbled on to this video and your channel, Raymond. I love Smallrig gear and use their L-brackets on my Nikon Z cameras (6,7,8 & 9 [2]). I have a small collection of their accessories including rails to set up the cameras for video with an external monitor/recorder. I've found their stuff to be reasonably priced, as compared to RRS or Kirk, and equally as good quality wise. Cheers and happy belated Canada Day! 🇨🇦

    I have this L-bracket for my Nikon Z 6 II.
    It comes with an Allen wrench underneath. (Magnetic Compartment)
    And I got the optional FTZ-Adapter support.
    I love it this bracket because it makes the Camera higher, means it’s much more comfortable to hold it with bigger hands or/and bigger lens.

    • @RaymondParkerPhoto
      @RaymondParkerPhoto  3 роки тому

      All of the above. I regret not mentioning the Allen wrench and option for FTZ support, which I have also. And, yes, I also like the added height, though my hands are not that big.

    Ray , small rig has two L bracket models for the Z system . One has a slimmer base than the other . You should also mention that one comes with an Allen wrench and the other with a tab type washer to adjust the brackets . It’s worth mentioning that these come attached to the brackets .

    • @RaymondParkerPhoto
      @RaymondParkerPhoto  3 роки тому +1

      Didn't know that they made 2. Thanks. Yes, I should have mentioned the Allen wrench.

    I bought a cheaper L bracket, but now wish I had the SmallRig one. I think the cold shoe would be good to have, now that I have a wireless mic set. There is also a left side box available for cable access and protection while allowing vertical use in an arca style clamp. One UA-camr says buy it nice or buy it twice. Good advice.

    Hi Ray, another reason to extend the L side of the bracket is to accommodate the use of Nikon’s remote, the WR-R10 or the new WR-R11b, which actually prevents it from accidentally being broken off, while allowing you to orient the camera in portrait mode.

      Hi Mustafa. If the video doesn't make that clear, the design and manufacturing is superb. I've found that to be the case with all SmallRig stuff I've bought, like the video rig components here: ua-cam.com/video/tS4DyYM_wWc/v-deo.html

    COMPATIBLE WHIT FTZ ADAPTER?

  • @leniehulse1621
    @leniehulse1621 3 роки тому

    Very informative video. One question, how do you attach it to a tripod? Is it screwed on or is there a plate on the ball head?

    • @RaymondParkerPhoto
      @RaymondParkerPhoto  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the question, Lenie. The bracket is Swiss-Arca compatible, so there is no need for any other plate, assuming you have a Swiss-Arca clamp on your ball head or other tripod head.
      Swiss-Arca is a common and favoured system.
      Having said all that, the plate is also 1/4/20 threaded should one need to use another plate ... but that kind of defeats the simplicity of this system.

    Yeah, I’m starting to look at this... think of shooting vertically for Instagram/TikTok video... this still doesn’t solve my problem because I keep the camera in an (overpriced) 8Sinn cage so I’m actually thinking of buying a 2nd Z6 just for Portrait shots... but - keeping FTZ on is critical because I use manual lenses almost exclusively...

    I just got the model 2947. Its $30 cheaper than the 2258, but I dont see any difference. Anyone know whu the 2258 is more expensive? Also, why is there an allen wrench with the 2947 since it only uses the flat head screws on the bottom?

    • @epzamora
      @epzamora 2 роки тому

      The 2947 does NOT have mounting holes for the separate FTZ lens adapter support. The 2258 L-bracket does. How important is it to "support" that FTZ adapter? I do not know. Also, the 2258 L-bracket extends 24mm, the 2947 "only" 22mm. I'm trying to figure out which one to buy myself for my Z6II. Personally I'd prefer to save $30.
