What worked for me was clicking on "Universal serial bus devices" and "Apple mobile device USB device" and right click "update driver" thanks for getting me here to help fix my iPhone problem.

A simple trick is that just go to control panel printers and devices right click on ur device e.g my device is iPad click properties go to hardware left click on what ever u seen on device functions and hit properties and click driver and hit update driver that’s it if this work I deserve an like ❤

Those who didnt have apple iphone devices show up under portable devices you need to check and update your windows with your iphone plugged in, mine was missing and that put it back. Also if you cant see your portable devices right click device manager and then choose show hidden devices.

Replace the battery in your iPod. That is the only thing that worked for me.
3 year old video but it helped - ended up that the USB port for my iPad pro 2020 was showing an error - so I deleted it and it automatically reinstalled and detected.
