    Nice to see you back on GW, I thought the show had been cancelled. I get it a bit delayed here in Florida, but it’s my must watch with Saturday morning coffee.

      You can read about the previous owner, Charlie Ryrie, in the April 2024 edition of Gardens Illustrated. This is how I found out about Joe buying it. The House and Gardens had been in her family for years.

    Love your videos. Learning lots from you. We moved into our home 8 years ago which is a converted granary. Our garden was originally a field and part of it had a sheep dip. The whole garden was just grass with one hawthorn tree. Since then we have put in terraces and random stone walls. Lots of hard work especially clearing stones but we didn’t have your problems with draining or with neglected overgrown areas.

    Viburnums are becoming one of my new favourite shrubs.
    The wonky path sounds a bit like mine-nothing is lined up with the house! I’m kinda going with it at the moment but it does cause a headache for every single new project that we take on. Love the update:)

    We have an Akebia quinata (here in Chicago). Usually evergreen thru the winter. When the temp dips low (-10c this year and a few back -30c) it drops all the leaves and lets us think it is done for...but then comes back. We have to hack back since it seems to have an obsession with our outdoor stairs...

    I'm intrigued Joe (and you may have addressed this) your daffodil display is similar to mine this year, fairly sparse! Any ideas as to why this might be? I thought maybe the relentless wet conditions have affected the bulbs - usually my display is brimming with blooms.
    So much greenery with very little flower this time.

    • @JoesCountryGarden
      @JoesCountryGarden  6 місяців тому

      It’s my first year here so can’t compare it with previous years, been pretty good tho! Doubt the wet weather has rotted off bulbs but possible I guess…

    I’ve watched a number of your posts and I’m wondering if you are sticking to an original design plan or if you’re tweaking it as you move forward? That would be the biggest challenge for an amateur gardener I think. An expat in Florida.

    • @JoesCountryGarden
      @JoesCountryGarden  6 місяців тому

      I often tweak designs when laid on the ground but I also have the luxury of time, being the designer and the client! and I’ll be here a lot overseeing the landscaping. Thanks for watching…

      @@JoesCountryGarden if I could do it all over again, I might have chosen landscape design as a career. Not something I’d entertain in Florida, the weather is just too hot and then there’s hurricanes. Better in the UK.
