    I imported a movable gripper and attached it to my solidworks arm assembly. But the gripper tongs don't move. What should i do?

    • @hawkridgesystems
      @hawkridgesystems  4 роки тому +2

      If the gripper is inserted as a subassembly then likely it needs to be made flexible - video here covers the details ua-cam.com/video/uhPKtI6pFok/v-deo.html

    Not sure if you will reply to this, but here goes. I'm using 2016 version of Solidworks and I'm trying to edit a .stl file, but that import diagnostics isn't showing up when I open the file. I also going under FeatureWorks under the insert tab, the Recognize Features is grayed out. How can edit this file?

      Hung Sewell I am having this problem too. Please help us!

      I found out how, you have to select the specific file type, in my case I'm importing a .stl file. On the open file window next to the file name you select .stl, then a options button will appear. Click options, under import as, select solid body. Once opened, I didn't get the message he got on the video, but you will have to select the model on the left tree (most likely labeled as "Imported") then go to insert at the top and go down to FeatureWorks and select Recognize Features...(may not work on all .stl files).

    Is it possible to extrude a boss around the stp file and then make a cut out/hollow of the stp file in the extruded boss?
    We often get stp files of parts from customers which I want to be able to sink into a block to get the reverse geometry, so I can model fixtures and special vice jaws.

    it says an error on mine, "this body(ies) cannot be modified. The owning feature must be unliniked to enable healing options."

    • @hawkridgesystems

      To allow editing of an imported part, right click the first feature in the tree and choose "Dissolve feature" and then say yes to the prompts. This will break the link to the file so it can be edited!
      This occurs if you are using the newer import options called 3D Interconnect. This can also be disabled through import options if this is a frequent problem

      Is Solidworks a much easier/better program than most others? It seems like it to me. I'm having a very difficult time learning some of the programs, but this just seems like a hell of a lot easier. Even without this video it's something I could have eventually figured out on my own and not like many of the programs where all of time would not be adequate for a person to figure out how to use them without training. Some of them are just so counter-intuitive, complex and convoluted it's insane. Then, the few I did figure out how to use are causing my part to be distorted when I try to modify them in any way (Like 3D Builder making my part all distorted every time I try to make a modification).
