Hope you're doing well. I've been there, and totally agree. My Mom passed a year ago. We knew it was coming for almost a year. At some point, every day, there's nothing left to do. I showed her a few youtube channels, and there were a couple she really liked. We'd watch, and she'd tell me stories of helping her Dad work on a tractor, or whatever. Or laugh about stuff. It was, in it's own way, a good time.

I was a state of Michigan certified master mechanic; I dropped out of that field some years ago and now I work on printing presses and associated equipment. Your videos tell me what a wise decision that was! I won’t lie and say my new occupation is a piece of cake; it isn’t, but I am glad we still have people like you out there, showing us the good, the bad and the ugly.
That 3-cylinder Ford with the “wet” timing belts is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen! At least with most of the engines you’ve torn down here you can see good points to them and your “autopsies” on how and why the engines failed mean a lot. And one thing has become very obvious - you love your line of work! Regardless of what we wrench, MECHANICS FOREVER!!

Fluid power tech here. The increased width of the oil pump gears will increase displacement. That means more flow for a given input speed. This generally will result in higher pressures, depending on how the pressure is controlled in the circuit. If there is a simple relief doing the pressure control, it will not increase peak pressure significantly unless the valve is saturated, but it will increase operating pressure if the circuit spends most of its time below the relief setpoint. If you normally have 40 PSI, and your relief is set at 60, you might achieve 50 PSI instead. It also has the potential to increase oil temperature.

Hey Eric, congrats on 200k!! You deserve it, man. Your dry, matter-of-fact personality is hilarious ("Well, THAT's not good.")! I had to be close to your 200,000th subscriber, but I've been watching the channel for months after my feed got flooded by engine videos while I was rebuilding my own. I bought a 2005 Xterra SE with 249K miles for $3000, BUT it had brand new tires and was in incredible condition except for one tiny problem: The water pump had a bad impellor gasket, so all the coolant leaked out and I blew the engine up 10 minutes after I drove it off the lot. I'd never done anything more to any engine than change oil and spark plugs, but I decided to self-educate and tackle a head gasket job to save that VQ40DE from the scrapyard. The inside of the engine was immaculate; it had been very well taken care of by the previous owner(s). It took a couple of attempts, but I got it done and recently drove it on a 700+ mile road trip with no issues. 255,000 and counting!
The reason for that story is that I'd love to see you tear one of these great engines down... If you can get one like mine was, haha. I'm sure they're out there, judging by all the Xterras I see at LKQ, but good luck anyway, and thank you for all you do!

Ok I’m gonna sub since I already watched 20+ of your tear downs. I’m a mechanic and I find it all strangely entertaining to see such carnage and destruction

The videos are fantastic and your sense of humor in these makes it fun to watch. I've been around since you had 20k subs and still watch every video I see come up. Thank you for not putting terrible intro music and the hard work you put in.

33:10 that lone ACDelco plug appears to be the dreaded #8 spark plug, the bane of Vortec owners' existence. This isn't the first time I've seen a GM V8 torn down with 1 plug different from the other 7, and it's always the #8 that tends to be an original plug.
Appreciate the work as always, Eric.

200K...wow...thats alot of people wanting to see failed engines. The best thing I think about the channel in general is it should, IMO, be shown in auto shop classes. perhaps the kids won't be as hard on their(or moms) car when they take it out.
2 engines with a timing cover and not much else...I am amazed that cam got hammered...and the trickle down effect...into the windage tray...wow.
It's a shame the 1st engine had been messed with but as you said..torque converter bolts.
A great video...I love how you put a comical spin on the carnage you find...classic and great to hear:-) Keep up the great work Eric...in the videos and helping keep cars and trucks on the road from the parts you sell. Again, huge congrats on 200K...I applaud you🙂

Eric; I've been watching for a year, I 'd like to see you rebuild a motor, don't care which one. this might hurt your numbers, no damage, no torque noises, little clowning.. your really good at what you do. Thank you for this podcast, from a fan. Ed
