This guitar is one of the most versatile instruments out there. The range of tones available is staggeringly vast. Since you can split the humbuckers to single coil, you have nine different choices. The Grover tuners are great, and the guitar looks absolutely amazing with the flame maple top (I have the Fireburst version and it is stunning in person -- pictures or video can't do it justice). To put it bluntly, if you have $400 and want one guitar to play across all genres of music, this is it.
Jimmy, I liked the guitar review a lot. I'm considering getting the Nighthawk. But, I wanted to say that in general, I really like your style and the vibe of your surroundings. Great art. The whole demo you created is fantastic... takes me back to better days for sure. My very best to you brother. You give hope to the world in the simple pleasures your brought to bear in your production. Thanks man!
I've been looking for a guitar with this sort of versatility ...and love the sound that comes out of this one. Quality instrument with some nice features for the buck . =)
I got mine for a whopping $300!!! Best money I have spent on a guitar in ages. It's extremely versatile. On gigs I can go from that beloved Fender sound on say a Jimi Hendrix tune and then pop into that heavier Santana tone when one of his songs in next on the set list. Great action right out of the box! I especially like the smoothness of a Maple fret board. Well the rosewood on mine is very dark and just as smooth. If you run across one of these pick it up. You won't regret it.
I'm pretty much a Fender guy. However, last night my partner brought his nighthawk to the gig. He put a Seymour Duncan slant in the bridge with a DeMarzio in the neck. I ended up playing this all night unless I had to use my slide, (his action was too low for that). Great guitar especially for the price. I'm picking one up today!
FYI, D-neck refers to the shape of the back of the neck (or cross-section). C and D are the most common. D is rounder (common on Les Pauls) and C is a bit shallower (common on Strats).
Anyone considering buying one of these ought to just go ahead and do it! I've got a small stable of great guitars including a Sheraton II, PRS BM, and a Fender Fat Strat, and this one just overall has the best tones and such a wide variety of tones of any guitar I've ever played. I saw on Epi's website that this guitar is "out of production". I don't know if that means forever or just temporary. But I like this guitar enough that I just bought a 2nd one before they've gone away. The first made in Indonesia (trans-amber), the 2nd from China (fire-burst). Both have only one problem, they need a star washer on the input-jack plate to keep the assembly and nut from coming loose.
Hello, Mr. Jackson. Hope you are doing well. My name is Tim and I really liked your review of the Epiphone Nighthawk. Thank you for sharing your time and skills. I was wondering, since you can split the bridge humbucker, can this guitar get a country tele like twang in both clean and distorted tones? I'm really desperate for any help in finding a guitar that can sparkle with each note in a played chord, sound warm (like a P90 in the neck sounds) and get some good old country "chicken pickin" tones as well. Thank you for your any help you can provide. Have a great day!
This guitar looks awesome. I'm seriously considering buying one, once I get some cash together. (Cheap guitars are a lot less cheap when you have no money :/ )
@docB601 since your just about to go into an electric, first try and find a guitar the you find comfortable. to me its stratocasters, which are also versital through all kinds of music from blues to metal. obviously you like single cut guitars. but still i would go about finding a music store and getting a feel for the right guitar. the solo 6 is good, very clean, and still very crunchy when you need it. this guitar would be just as good if not better because of the coil tap
@jimmyhendrix42 dude i agree with you the majority of epiphone guitars are top of the line besides for those special guitar (Les Paul special, SG special, and LP jr. Special,) and those Les Paul 100 guitars the standards customs SGs and those others are jus as good as gibson guitars well some at least
i love this!! =D its fantastic just brought an epiphone dot in cherry red and i love it! all the rubbish about epiphones quality is a load of crap! i really love epiphone the quality rules and the sound is even better!!
Advice plz someone...I've only been playin for about 5 months on an acoustic and I think i'm ready to get an electric to expand my music a little bit. I try to play all types of music but i'm enjoying learning the blues the most, would this guitar be better or worse than the schecter solo 6 std. that i'm planning on gettin? Thnx
If this is an official Epiphone, it's very sloppy. This guys says the guitar's pickup has a coil-split, but the Epiphone website says it has coil-tap, two complete different things. So, has this guitar coil-tap, or coil-split?
Built in China I think--which is no bad thing. The quality of guitars coming out of China these days is astonishing--think Squier Classic Vibe,Hofner,Ampeg,Guild to name just 4. On a par with Japan now IMHO.
Not to diss on gibson, but epiphone sure is growing in terms of quality and variety while gibson seems to be just worried in putting as many electronics as they can in their newer guitars. I mean I know they are the same company and stuff but it's funny how they are moving in complete oposite directions! I mean, if gibson and epiphone just had the guitars they have done in the last 5 years or so, epiphone would shurely be better than gibson!
One of the 1st Epi Nighthawk Custom RI's w/ set neck and looks like rosewood board,
funny early trussrod cover but lovely finish...
thanx and cheers

Terrific demo and excellent playing/arrangement.
Demos don't get any better.
I just purchased one Jimmy. Thanks so much for the demonstration. It was excellent!
Good demo of what seems to be a very versatile instrument. Thanks!
Brilliant Demo Thanks. Very tempted.
Love my Epi Nighthawk beautiful Guitar, all in one.

I think I NEED one of these...

I tried one out at Guitar Center and fell in love. My next guitar. True Story.
man, im sooooo gonna buy it..., i hope they dont discontinue it soon.

i really want that now
I could play three of these simultaniously, and it would be same as one 10 pound Les Paul.. Great guitar.
Just ordered mine

@kingstumble but they are two different companies (although one owns the other) so yes...they legally have to give permission first....
Looks Great! When is it due out?

@TheCyBeRkNoT
Gibson owns Epiphone.They don't have to give permission--it is the same company!
if you were asked to make a choice between les paul and this guitar -for blues rock and metal- which one would you choose bro?
but you cant get a Gibson for 300 bucks. compare this to a 300 dollar epi les paul and the nighthawk wins

what guitar is that big black one on the wall ?

@Stonesfanat
with the exception of this les paul. this guitar has a very thin neck.
i love this!! =D its fantastic just brought an epiphone dot in cherry red and i love it! all the rubbish about epiphones quality is a load of crap! i really love epiphone the quality rules and the sound is even better!!
that is my next guitar as soon as i get another tube amp (mine got destroyed by lightning) and my gdec just doesnt satisfy me lol
would you say it has a thicker or thinner neck? I've never used an SG so i have no idea what that neck feels like

@Stonesfanat
There's always one
I own one, it's great! But it's definitely a coil-tap & not a split
@ameritechdj
I know eh? It's a good feeling ^_^
where did i find you
I wonder if this guitar can sound good when playing some Protest The Hero songs
Michaels brother.
i like his hat lol
