Since this video was published, there's been another update - Brass boilers! The latest version, the Pro E24, now has a Brass boiler, and roughly 25% bigger capacity too (same size boiler but thinner material so bigger water capacity).
Just had the flaking with mine. Emailed the retailer i bought it from and they immediately sent me the letter Gaggia put out about the issue. They also sent me a return slip to send back my machine and sent me a new 2024 non-coated version in the same color. It was an easy process and showed they (eventually) stand behind their product.
Can confirm that Chocolate Brownie blend is a great coffee. Tried switching to one of your single origin roasts but came back to the old favourite as it's great as a milky. 1:35
i had this issue and got a replacement coated boiler that was supposedly certified not flake. It still did, so i ended up getting them to send me an uncoated one. A bit of a hassle, but in the end a GCP Evo is still a solid workhorse.
Have the boiler changed to the uncoated one. Did already 600+ brew cycles and to my biggest surprise, no sign of galvanic corrosion yet. As the boiler is rather inexpensive as is the whole machine, if it holds out at least for another 600 or maybe 2000+ in sum (as there are no problems to see yet) it is an acceptable circumstance. Espresso is great, once you figure out your machine's temp surfing workflow. Big plus is the fast heatup time which is the biggest con is too. The steaming performance is only enough for 1-2 milk drinks, not enough if you invite more people at once, but it is a liveable deficiency. As much as I hated it because of the flaking and the need to ship back and forth, now I love it very much.
I really liked the machine but had lots of flakes coming out of my 2023 evo. I would love to see Classic with 49-54mm group with pid as default. I think the smller grouphead is in high demand now after last of Lance heddricks video :)
I think Gaggia will be fine with this machine in the long run It’s overall build quality, ease of modding and “classic” status will see it through Can’t see anyone taking a screwdriver or modding kit to a Breville or the new Ninja That style of machine does make great coffee but if they go wrong…… In the bin 🗑️
I'm sure they will, and I agree, in my opinion the Gaggia Classic is still the best bet at the entry level, certainly when it comes to reliability & longevity, and as you've said, the ability to mod & maintain. But still - anyone at the moment who isn't familiar with the classic, who searches for info on it, and finds themselves on the various threads, may end up with less of a favourable opinion about the reliability of the Classic Pro, vs before this issue. Lots of people have told me they decided against the classic purely because of hearing about this. I'm sure Gaggia realise this, and it'll be interesting to see how they respond to it going forward.
The Classic just looks Classic, the buttons, just solid and pro, they just need to add some more tech to it like the OPV and have a temp scale on it etc
Gaggia need to step up and address the 2+ negatives of the classic pro. 1. The water tank must have a lid to seal insects out and make it easier to get out for cleaning. 2. Raise the hight of the group so we are not restricted to short cups when using a coffee scale. 3. Subjective request that they upgrade the controls to something like the illuminated ones on Breville Barista Express and others, and get rid of those cheap plastic light covers. And while they are at it they could route the pressure relief to be behind the water tank
It's like any brand though they have a couple of failures and people just associate it with that machine for years. e.g Sage Barista touch. bunch of them would not reach temps and forums filled with people saying its crap for years. 5000 plus runs on mine and its still rock solid since 2018 and never had an issue with temp. I think the Gaggia will end up the same.
My personal opinion is, since they didn't appropriately deal with the issue from discovery, I will never purchase or recommend their products. They deserve to close. Public health over profits. In 2024 it's the model T anyways.
Unfortunately they blew it for me. I was just about to get one as it was a good price point for what I was looking for but then I started seeing the boiler gate comments. It’s not the mistake that’s the issue but how they appeared to have handled it - or rather haven’t. I’ve searched a bit and not seen anything from Gaggia accepting the concern and addressing it. Obviously they have as they have exchanged boilers etc. )although getting the customer to fit them doesn’t really feel that professional in many cases, but the number of people with replaced units and boilers still with an issue just smacks of incompetence. Quite apart from the fact just how on earth this was never seen in development? A bad batch of applying the coating can be forgiven as a quality concern but it being so widespread and no apparent awareness it was happening from Gaggia’s perspective feels like a fundamental design and development process failing within their organisation. They should be better at this given their size and history - they are hardly a start up kickstarter.

Will there be a version with a PID?
Do you know when the new E24 will be available to buy in the UK?

This was so damn helpful, thank you
Why not ss boiler instead of brass?doesn’t brass corrode with time??

Can you do review on kitchen aid espresso machines & grinders???

The only thing Gaggia did is that they switched the aluminum boiler to a brass one with the brand new E24 model.
I like the gaggia but bought another brand because of the boiler
Does someone know if the latest e24 comes out with the 9bar opv stock?
So does that mean the 2024 model does not have a brass grouphead anymore? (due to possible galvanic corrosion)
Hi Kev - I bought a couple of bags of CWorks beans but have a question on them - should I contact them directly?
Hi Ben, yeah drop us an email, admin@cworks.co.uk, Ta, Kev.
I have an old Gaggia Classic non pro, should I be worried? We’ve used it for many many years, first I’ve heard of boiler gate.
No this is just an issue with the "Evo" version of the Classic Pro.
@@Coffee_Kev thank you
You need to be kept updated on what's going on: The gaggia has already realesed Gaggia Classic Pro E24 it's the one with brass boiler.
yup, I know ;-), this video was published over a month ago, and filmed about 2 months ago - it was up to date at the time ;-), more updates coming.
They've sent me a new boiler but i haven't swapped it out yet..
I really fancy a flake

Yeah, the power of social media.

@@Coffee_Kev you always make me lol! You rock thank you so much do you and your team you guys make coffee so much fun 😎👍🏽
Little too much fluff in your video. Just the facts...regardless thanks for the very useful info.
