Hi Dean! I just wanted to tell you how much this video helped me go to Japan recently (late December) with only a 15L backpack that weighed around 5.5kgs. Thank you so much for being my biggest inspiration in traveling light! 😊 Happy 2018!
Actually I rarely get asked to weigh my bag, unless its a super budget flight like tiger air. I usually try to keep my pack less than 7kg I did challenge myself at 3kg though. 5kg is pretty comfortable and allows room for small souvenirs
+Packing Lite Thanks for sharing. Can you be slightly over the 11 lbs limit, lets say for 2 to 3 pounds and not be bothered by the airline? Or would they make you pay for the extra weight.
Hi, your vids gave me hope that i can still pack a lighter bag. Thanks! Btw, where did you get your folding umbrella and it looks like you were allowed to have it on carry on? ..
+Nasser Alkmim I did buy a few things such as: tenugui, nail clippers and the red power adapter you can see in my previous video. My favourite part of Japan is the food!
+Abhishek Kapatkar Thank you. I did post a detailed list on my site: packinglite.co/travelling-light-5kg/ but to recap I took: 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of shorts, 3 pairs underwear, 2 pairs of socks, 1 short sleeve and 1 long sleeve merino wool shirts and 1 button up shirt. 1 ultralight down jacket. That kept me pretty warm through a fair range of temperatures.
watched couple of your videos and noticed that you carry only one merino wool tshirt. how long do these last without washing. and would these work in warm climates, by warm I mean temperature from 30 to 40 degree Celsius ?
I usually carry two, wear one and have the other packed or wash one and wear one as the other dries. My favourite one is 200gsm weight merino and honestly it breaths well enough for me in the summer not to feel too hot. I have seen some people say it feels too hot for them though.

+M.Ronan Thank you!

Excellent to hear that, thanks for watching :)
thanks for all the great videos! surprised you don't have more views. you should do a video on how you do laundry on the go
I kind of did here ua-cam.com/video/uWsQQGtfmtU/v-deo.html but you're right, I might make a more specific one a bit later. Thank you
I keep a slightly bigger bag packed that has a sleeping back in it.
+Vegantastic for outback camping?
for camping in general
Great, great tips - do you get asked to weigh your bag often? Or was it just a challenge to see how light you can get your bag?

Depends on the airline, some of them don't even ask to check the weight, but some of them wont accept even a little bit over the weight.

+Pia B thank you, yes I carried that umbrella through carry on. It's a little cheap folding one I picked up in Japan
+Packing Lite thanks will be looking for it in osaka on January.. Hopefully they have it there 😊
cool video. So, you went to japan and didn't buy anything?
+Nasser Alkmim I did buy a few things such as: tenugui, nail clippers and the red power adapter you can see in my previous video. My favourite part of Japan is the food!
Useful video. I am never quite sure about my clothing. How many pairs of shirts/pants did you take?
