    One of the best curated travel packing list I've seen! I was happy to see some items I travel with myself :) I am taking notes, sir! If I saw this 10 years ago on my first trip to Sri Lanka, I wouldn't pack 20kg backpack hahahaha. I am confident now I can pack under 7kg, as I don't travel with laptop and camera - I will pack some female specific items instead. Thank you for inspiration, I will check your reviews!

    That bag is consider a carry on. You pay extra $$$ for it. With a personal Item bag (18" X 14" X 7") you pay less for your ticket.

  • @joyceatwork

    As long as your backpack doesn’t look saggy and heavy, as long as your backpack looks lightweight, slim-stuck to your back, i think most of the budget airline workers will let you pass through without checking. But if your bag looks big or bulky, saggy snd protruding excessively from your back, i saw the workers check on those backpackers’ bags.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  Рік тому +6

      I know in many countries its kind of hit or miss, but I can tell you when you depart from within Australia they check every backpack regardless of how it looks. I know because I've flown a lot of different airlines from budget to full service and when I fly out from Australia they *always* ask to weigh my carry on even before seeing it.

    Hello man, just found your channel and it is very interesting to see that you use some more affordable brands on non-essential things. Also the weight consciousness is very nice.
    Just a question, would the travel airlines in general (and that budge one) let you use a small sling pack or fanny pack along with this backpack? It is a way to reduce the weight and have some quick access on important stuff.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  5 років тому +3

      You're allowed 1 small personal bag (like a laptop bag, or handbag) and a suitcase / backpack. But the total weight for both together is still only 7kg. But I often heard they dont often weigh the smaller sling bag. I did think of that myself but I haven't tried it personally. Budget airlines within asia generally aren't strict and dont weigh backpacks. But in my experience budget airlines departing from within Australia generally do weigh them.

  • @alanchankw
    @alanchankw 5 років тому +2

    Air Asia did weigh traveler's bag, but it depends on airports. I was traveled from Hong Kong to Bangkok and back last year with Air Asia, and they never weigh my bags in both trips.

      I probably wouldn't bring my mirrorless camera or possibly even the gropro (unless going to the beach) the camera in your phone is good enough (and can be put into a waterproof case). Mosquito repellent is an absolute must! I used it almost every day, especially in country areas or beach areas the mosquitos are crazy.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  2 роки тому

      Nice did you go for the original or the plus? I have heard of scottevest but the idea of wearing the weight doesnt particularly appeal to me. I prefer to wear more techwear fabrics and/or merino for better clothing performance and temperature regulation. I'm not sure the scottevests are geared towards clothing versatility, their focus is adding as many pockets as possible from what I gather. But I might check it out one day if I have a chance.

    • @maehabes4097
      @maehabes4097 2 роки тому

      @@PackingLess I got them both! I ordered 2 of each version, and gave the other one as a gift. Both so awesome 😍 they're just so well-engineered that it's worth the extra weight!!
      I just remembered Scottevest while watching this video, the heavier techs can go inside the apparels when presenting them to the check-in counters, haha 😂
      Oh yeah, and got 2 sizes of the Scrubba, too! Awesome stuff! Thanks

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  2 роки тому

      @@maehabes4097 I have seen slim laptop 'backpacks' that hide against your back so it doesnt get weighed at check in. But actually most airlines allow a 'personal item' bag of 1.5kg in addition to the 7kg in many cases. Also Scoot airways increased its carry on to 10kg which I think is more reasonable.
      I have the scrubba mini, I'll be reviewing soon

      A lot of people are into videography, it's a great hobby for travelers because it allows you to both capture and experience a single place.

    • @MrJed_s
      @MrJed_s 5 років тому +2

      I've done the opposite and started traveling with a Fuji x70. For me, the more tangible benefits are slightly thinner (real) depth of field, articulating screen for low/overhead shots, increased MP (although still only 16MP). Other than that I just like the feeling of using a real camera and being "forced" to vet/edit from raw on the laptop. I'm guessing none of these reasons were that compelling for you? It's definitely a tough decision, and gets tougher with improvements in computational photography.

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  5 років тому +2

      Honestly only took the a6400 because my girlfriend wanted to get some 'professional' looking shots with a shallow depth of field. I wont take it on future trips. The gopro + phone were what I mainly used. I could probably get away with just the phone but for video, especially involving water or needing stabilisation the gopro was really nice to have. But I probably could have gone without the gopro too.

      It depends about the place and what you shoot. I take photos of wildlife in Africa so I need real camera and good lenses with me. I try to travel light with good "weight/zoom" ratio so my biggest lenses are just Canon 2.8 70-200 IS USM III and Canon 100-400 II

    • @PackingLess
      @PackingLess  4 роки тому +1

      Thats true, although Scoot airlines have 10kg carry on, and Qantas too. Its hit or miss which airlines enforce the limit. Some will weigh your bag some wont. I have found most airlines within Australia or departing form Australia weigh your bag. But departing from Asia almost none of them weigh your bag. You can put heavier items in your pockets or give them to a friend while you check in if you want to pack more than 7kg

    • @IM-eq9gx
      @IM-eq9gx 4 роки тому +1

      Cheryl Wyschinski over here in the States, the dimensions are what most domestic airlines are strict about, so clever packing allows one to carry more.
      15lbs of non-tech items is actually alot of clothes... maybe just stuff the tech items and heavier gear into your personal item bag, and then once at your destination go back to one bag travel. a wardrobe capsule should help the need for more clothing.

      The red cable is from a phone recycling/refurbishing brand called "mazuma" I dont think they sell the cable separately, it comes with the purchase of refurbished phones. But Anker make a similar cable. The powerbank is a aukey powerbank 10000 mah. The shure se215 are available most audio shops. What do you take on board. Keep in storage. I expect budget airlines to loose your goods and not give a shit about you. I have a tendency to take too much. Whst about wster. Bottles to fill at airport at destination. Food in pack. Food that can cross borders. Legal etc reasons.
    Electronics laptop vs tablet vs smart phone vs dumb phone vs purchasong at destination. Coals to newcastle.
    Funds. Cash travelers checks cards credit debit. What do if things lost. Contigency plans . Im an older traveler meds and crossing border what do you need with you. Dont want confiscatted or be arrested. Need meds health nnot best. Why traveling. Not dead yet.
    Thanks for tips. I think youre taking too much. Should do a dry run. That is take stuff to a local destination.planes trains and automobiles. But youre younger more fitter. Compression socks great in general.zfor high blood pressure. Fluid goes to feet if sitting for long periods. Can walk up aisle. Stewardesses not helpful. Could be airline.anyway thank for advise.

      I never check a bag so airlines wont lose it. With water bottles, I have a collapsible Vapur bottle that rolls up, its fine to take through security, then fill it at a water station before boarding the plane. Food thats sealed in a packet usually is fine across borders but I rarely take food with me.
      I did a video recently about taking a tablet over a laptop, but for what I do (video editing) it is still more comfortable on a laptop, although most people could get by with only a phone in my opinion.
      I've never seen or heard anyone having a problem carrying medication.
      I did a video where I did take less (3kg in a 10L bag) but what I take now is more comfortable, specially when I need to work on the road.
