Excellent remake of the 1965 hit by The Supremes....the summer of 83 seemed to be the final appearence in the top 40 for a lot of singers that hit it big in the 60s and 70s.....Little River Band "We Two"...America "The Border"...Paul Anka."Hold Me Till The Morning Comes".....this song hit#29 in August of 83
I grew up with this song. When I was a kid I cried when I heard this song and so I do today,at the age of 36... Same is with In the living years from Mike and the mechanics.

I had totally forgot about this cover by the Hollies. I graduated from high school in 1982 and I now remember this song getting lots of airplay at the time (USA). Unlike most covers, this actually does sound even better than the Supremes original; very updated and contemporary sounding in 1983. Allan Clarke's vocals at the beginning of the song sounds very close to Daryl Hall of Hall and Oats. I am a big fan of Allan Clarke's voice and singing style; a very charismatic singer.
On this day in 1983 {June 4th} the Hollies performed "Stop! In The Name of Love" and "Casualty" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... "Stop! In The Name of Love" peaked at #29 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... Needles to say; the original version was by The Supremes in 1965, their version reached #1 {for 2 weeks}... And according to WiKiPedia "Casualty" never charted anywhere in the world... R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
the Hollies hit #29 in Billboard, 7-30-83. Were both Allan Clarke, and, Graham Nash, part of this reunion. Somebody let me know. God bless ya, for your efforts!
This 1983 single arrangement is a virtual identical copy of the 1982 non charting uk single version of the song by Barbara Dickson. Obviously Clarkey & Co heard hers and said we'll have that!
@NoelArtMedia it's called "Butterfly On A Wheel- The Great Stones Drugs Bust" and it is on Amazon - Dare I say it- you know about the "David Schneidermann" connection?
I personally like this version way better than the Supremes version, they've made it sound their own and this song brings me back a lot of happy memories
Outstanding clip, very well cut together. its message is in the eyes and ears of the beholder, as it ought to be. Is that Lil Haydn at 2:28 ? This is so cool!
@NoelArtMedia That's fantastic! I have written about "David Jove" in my new book "Butterfly On A Wheel- The Great Rolling Stones Drugs Bust". Hope you get to see a copy. 2 nice photos of him prior to David Jove incarnation. Much best, Simon Wells
@matsuyamati Couldn't agree more. I'm thinking the same thing now that I thought in 1983. Did we really need to see 100 ugly kids singing at the camera. Still makes my skin crawl.
I can assure you that I've been able to contextualise his presence and reason for being at the Redlands party- it was nothing more than he was excellent - if stratospheric- company, perfect for the time. All the other stuff- much of it coming from those present- is total myth. Jove is/was larger than life- he needs no embellishing! X
I loved the overjoyed look on the pilot's face as the mission is scrubbed. But I've never understood - did he do this on his own, or receive orders to do so? I thought maybe the red phone indicated this, but its never been clear too me.
Hey buddy! One year later, but I find your question interesting. The pilot in command has full authority on board, and the video shows as though as he would make that decision himself. But I guess in the case of a nuclear attack carried out because of a top commission, he'd be relieved of his command, the first officer would take charge, and the attack would be executed. The Air Force in real life isn't very sentimental.
1) He has no authority to "Abort" the mission. If he'd launched, the US would be under attack or imminent attack. 2) If he "Aborted" on his own accord, the United States would still be hit and he would have had nothing to go home to smoking ruins. They make it seem like he had the authority, but the only thing that could have generated an emotional reaction like that would be a "Recall". T
Timely message from the past with the cover to the Diana Ross & The Supremes signature song from 1965 for Russia, Ukraine and NATO especially the leadership in the Pentagon and the warmongers in the Military Industrial Complex in 2022 and beyond as the video depicts an Air Force officer in a B-52 as he contemplated to answer the launch codes but he listened to his conscience via the children who are now in their 40s and aborted the death order to start a nuclear war with then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics which is the end for humanity for both the USA and the USSR
@simonwells61 I know. I've been trying to raise awareness of Jove's music by producing two music videos: "15 Minutes of Snapshot" & "Jove -- 'into The Shrine'". Please check them out on my channel. Also, his style of editing video has been very influential on my own cutting style. I hope his works will be made available again soon, so a new generation can discover this amazing artist. And no, i don't believe he killed Peter Ivers.
@simonwells61 Yes. I'm not sure I blame him for the raid, as some have. By late '60's standards, its like blaming the pizza guy for bringing the pizza, is it not ? ;-)
Geez, these guys should go to prison for what they did to this song. I mean, it was the reunion record, so you knew it was going to stink, just like everyone else's reunion record stunk (except for Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers). Man, I'll tell ya, I'd rather listen to Pink Lady's version of this song!
Disappointed to read people dissing this. That's an awesome cover. Loved it in '83, love it now.
I haven't seen this video in a very long time.
It brings back so many memories of my childhood.
I feel the same…
Thank you .😢
love this version the vídeo is great
great song, IMO I think this song is better than the original and it should have climbed higher on the Billboard charts

I've always preferred this to the original, they made it sound their own and it's a great song, wish it charted in the Top 10 instead of #29
Eu conheci já nesta versão. Amo ❣️
Stop In The Name Of Love. From The Lp "What Goes Around" (1983).

No auge da guerra fria.

I remember seeing this music video many years ago.
Tão gostoso este som🤩❤️🙌
Música lindíssima.
Beatiful song!!!
Good cover, they done it justice.
Adoro!
Amore!!!!!

If it is Lil it is no surprise- her dad "David Jove" directed the video! Very famous man in the history of rock music!
Stop hating on the Hollies! This song was a hit in the US in 1983 (#29). Apparently, no other countries were havin it. Lol
...first time I've heard this.....the best thing I can say is...you can tell it's The Hollies....
@simonwells61 wow! i'm a stones fan, too. I look forward to reading your book. Let me know how I can get a copy. ;-)
Sucesso

Hit #8 AC, #29 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!
With all the incredible music happening in 1983, I can't believe this nonsense was a Top 40 hit.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

B-52 =stratofortress; B-29 =superfortress

As a child, this video made me aware of B-52s and nuclear weapons. I thought they were so cool that I joined the US armed forces. Thanks!
Decent song. Man, It's hard to believe how people were nuclear bat-$#!+ crazy was in 1983. Just look up Able Archer.

Good Supremes remake.
what in the planet earth did this song have to do with reagan era cold war sentiments?
How many Cold War-era kids actually had a B-52 Super Fortress bomber as a toy?
I did.
look at the girl's teeth at 1:41.
I think they might have reinterpreted the song as anti-war, I don't know.
Does anyone else think that the pilot in this clip looks like Harrison ford?
Good old Ronald Reagan and the cold war.
