- Not Just in Animated Films, “Wall-E” is Ready for Action on the Battlefield as an Anti-Drone UGV.
Who would have thought, Disney robot characters are involved in the war in Ukraine. Although not related to the principal Walt Disney brand, a tracked robot or Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) has been launched by Russia with the label "Wall-E", namely a UGV designed to 'eradicate' enemy drones in the vicinity. Specifically, Wall-E is part of an electronic warfare system that is currently in the field testing phase. Named after Disney's little trash-collecting robot, Wall-E is designed to suppress communication channels between drones and their operators.
The appearance of Wall-E was first reported by RIA Novosti, which then released a video of Wall-E's field trials earlier this month. This anti-drone UGV is predicted to be a nightmare for Ukraine's drone fleet. The anti-drone system on Wall-E is equipped with a Fumigator electronic warfare system designed to cut off communication between the unmanned aerial vehicle and its operator. In addition, the Fumigator electronic warfare system has a secure control channel, which is said to allow for unhindered operation even when the dampening system is active. Rebovet, the manufacturer of Wall-E, claims that the system is designed to create a communications suppression dome with a radius of 820 to 984 feet (250 to 300 meters). This invisible dome can render spy drones and kamikaze drones useless, and also protect troops on the ground from attack.
