Saudi Arabia Secretly Buys 100 KAAN Units Because Turkey Has Many Advantages
Saudi Arabia's move to buy Turkey's fifth-generation fighter jet, the KAAN, is truly unexpected. Moreover, recently the Commander of the Saudi Arabian Air Force, Turki bin Bandar Al Saud, flew to meet representatives of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) as the manufacturer that produces it along with Aselsan as the supplier of supporting components. A series of advantages possessed by KAAN are a special attraction in the eyes of potential customers because they are not necessarily owned by countries other than Turkey.

The predictive maintenance system has been operating on the Rafale for several years and its availability rate was 94% in 2023. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that this is the highest availability rate of all NATO aircraft or even the world. When you think that the F-35 in its various iterations does not exceed 48%, there is something to think about.

GAO is trying to have it both ways at the expense of US security. Everyone recommended not replacing the A-10 Warthog because it was too expensive to fund a replacement. So DOD goes to the bottom of the barrel and gets basically an upgraded crop duster airplane and heavily modifies it. To the sky warden’s credit, no one is harder on aircraft in the US than crop dusters and they proved the concept over 40 or 50 years, it can be disassembled and hauled in a container, is a tail dragged so it can operate on some horrible, crude runways, and can fly with damage (crop dusters snag power lines and fences all the time). It’s going to operate close to the troops and can easily operate off a crude dirt road and be supported with a tractor trailer load of spare parts and tools. But the aircraft is going to pick up a lot of bullet holes and RPG’s in the process so extras are needed. So GAO in my opinion ought to shut their mouth, they got what they asked for, and this program is chump change in comparison to the normal aircraft acquisition process.
