Hi, and welcome to The Immigrant Lawyer. My name is Lia, and I'm an immigrant turned immigrants' rights advocate with a passion for mindful movement.
Mindful movement, in my life, means migration + mobility.
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another, with the intention of settling at a new location. As an immigration attorney licensed and practicing in California, I've worked with families, asylum seekers, and survivors of crime and violence from all over the world and advised a Fortune 100 tech company on strategies for U.S. immigration & global mobility. Recently, I made the switch to civil litigation in the hopes of becoming a more well-rounded legal advocate.
Mobility is the ability to move freely, which I like to do by teaching and practicing yoga-Pilates-HIIT.
The Immigrant Lawyer is my offering to our community of movers and doers. Join me here as we dive into U.S. immigration processes and policies and unwind our mind and body with some stretching, cardio, and flexibility together.
Thank you for tuning in. Til next time ~

What about dual citizenship for foreigners who want to become a Phil citizen via naturalization, is this allowed?
Paano po kung married po ako sa isang american dito sa kentucky, okay lang po ba na wag ko lang muna ireport ang marriage ko? Like next year ko nalang po ireport? Gusto ko lang po muna kasi yung dual citizenship ko lang muna sana. Possible po ba yun?
I was denied dual citizenship last week in Elk Grove, CA. My father born in Malolos, Bulacan retired US Navy and became US Citizen. My mother was a Filipino citizen at the time of my birth. I was born before 1973 and was told I’m ineligible due to my father being US Citizen. What do you think.
I forgot to mention I was born in Manila.
Was your father a Filipino citizen at the time of your birth?
Were your parents married at the time of your birth?
LEGITIMATE CHILD BORN BEFORE 17 JANUARY 1973: The father was a Filipino citizen at the time of the child’s birth, as indicated in the PSA Birth Certificate. If the father is not Filipino, the child must have formally elected Filipino citizenship upon reaching the age of majority.
ILLEGITIMATE CHILD BORN BEFORE 17 JANUARY 1973: The mother was a Filipino citizen at the time of the child’s birth, as indicated in the PSA Birth Certificate.
@@wallyhighsmith9005 I was born before 1973 and my dad was a US Citizen retired from the Navy. My dad was born in Malolos Bulican. Yes they were married.

Question: im here in Arizona we dont have a branch here ,how can we get dual citizenship? And how we will know if the consulate coming to our area.
Hi po! Arizona is under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Consulate General, which periodically conducts "consular outreach" events in your area: www.philippineconsulatela.org/about-the-consulate/outreach
For updates on the consular outreach schedule, you may follow the LA Consulate General's FB page: facebook.com/PHLinLA
i came to America in 1971 under the US-Phil armed forces agreement joined the US Navy. No birth certificate was availble from my birth town and there was no PSA then, a letter of affidavit was signed by 3 who were familiar of my parents that i was born in the same municipality. The US Navy accepted it. Do i still have to obtain my birth certificate from PSA?
Ano Po ba Ang implikasyon noong nag apply siya dual citizen sa consulate ng US she took her oath kaso pagdating niya pilipinas po Nakita na may problema yong PSA record tapos binaliwala niya at umabot na siya 18 months sa pilipinas, ano Po ba mangyari sa kanya? Pls kindly explain po salamat.
Ano po ang mas madali.online appointment?or just sending the application together with all supporting documents to the Philippine consulate? Your reply is really appreciated

Hello...i am Andre...my mother is Filipino my father a United States Soldier...i was born in USA...now im at philippines with my mother...i wish to get my dual citizenship...WHERE CAN I GO IN PHILIPPINES TO GET DUAL CITIZENSHIP?....Sincerely, Andre
Hello, Andre - you may apply for Philippine citizenship through the Bureau of Immigration: immigration.gov.ph/contacts/
They have several offices throughout the Philippines, but the main office is located at Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, Manila, Philippines 1002 / Direct Line: (+632) 8-524-3769 / xinfo@immigration.gov.ph | immigPH@immigration.gov.ph
Good luck 🙏
Hello, I’m going to apply dual citizenship soon in the Philippines . My concern is that I did not report when I have my son in the US and now we are in the Philippines. Do I have to report his birth first or I can go ahead and file for dual citizenship for the principal’s minor derivative. Thank you very much if you can response.
Hello! If you were still a Filipino citizen when your son was born, you can report his birth now, and he would automatically become a Filipino citizen. If you were already a U.S. citizen when your son was born in the U.S., you may include him in your application for dual citizenship as your minor derivative
@@theimmigrantlawyer appreciated❤️
Hello maam how can i contact you. Thank you so much❤ i was planning to apply dual citizenship me and my son 2:14 i am in minnesota.
My husband born u.s citizens can he dual citizen,
Hello, if I was born in the Philippines, but on a military base would I still qualify to apply for a dual citizenship in the Philippines?
Hello! You may qualify for Philippine dual citizenship if either of your parents is/was a Filipino citizen at the time of your birth
Good day po Mam Lia. I got my US Citizenship recently. I want to apply for dual citizenship. However, the problem is my birthdate instead of 13th, my NSO BC indicates 12th. I filed a petition at PSA thru QC LCR in tge Philippines but it was denied by PSA. Since I was due for interview at US Embassy in 2016 as immigrant (permanent residence) thru my daughter, I filed an affidavit indicating that 13th was my birthdate with all supporting docs and was readily accepted by US consulate in Manila. Now again I will need to orovide my NSO BC for dual citizenship. What is your advice. Thanks
Getting your Birth certificate fixed is not easy. I remember it was hard for my dad. He had to fly to Visayas from Manila and stayed there for a week. I think they even went to court there.
Hello po. Pede po mag apply ng dual instead us citizenship lang??? Kasi parang narinig ko sabi nyo po eh after ng us citizenship pede mag apply after. Ang gusto ko sana mag apply ng dual na???
Hello! Hindi po pwede sabay magapply for u.s. citizenship and filipino dual citizenship kasi filipino citizens who naturalize sa u.s. automatically "lose" their filipino citizenship, but natural-born filipinos may apply to reclaim their filipino citizenship after naturalizing 🙏 So ang process po ay to naturalize muna sa u.s. then apply for filipino dual citizenship
@@theimmigrantlawyer ah ok po. Thank you.
Which supporting documents are required if i was born in usa? My mother is pinay. Requirements im seeing is for previous Filipino citizens
