- Meet Wayne. Wayne is a contestant who is quite funny. He is ready to start the game. He tells Gene, "Push the Button First" to start the game. Too funny!
Today's Panel: Nipsey Russel, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Jackie Joseph, Richard Dawson, and Jo Anne Worley
A delightful episode! Nipsey, Jackie, and Jo Ann fit in with the regulars really well. Thanks for uploading, I've watched just about all 200+ up this point during the past year :)
this has to be the funniest most spontaniously unscripted game show ever
Gene Rayburn had the right idea - Match Game wouldn't have been the phenomenon it was had it been a cut-and-dried game show.
Instead, the game was an excuse for a group of celebrities (including Gene) to come into your home each day and become a part of your family. You got to know them over the weeks, months, and years, and it was that connection to the familiar faces of the regulars and the semi-regulars (with the occasional newcomer/visitor) that kept people tuning in over and over.
The game was really secondary, an excuse to laugh and tease each other, so it didn't matter if the game aspect occasionally ran off the rails with silly antics and chatter and contestants kissing their celeb, etc. But the fact that the game allowed the home viewer to play along was another big draw - you could see if you could match your favorite celebs, etc.
I think if a stiffer host had been given the job, sticking to the game and discouraging antics while trying to get a certain number of rounds in per show or whatever, Match Game never would have taken off the way it did.
Hahaha! You’re a natural blonde! Gene’s obsession with people’s hair roots or wigs makes me laugh!
And I love that beautiful plum colored jacket Nipsy is wearing. 💜
i love this episode! its hysterical!
11:47 Did anyone catch Richard turn around to look at Charles after Gene asked him if he was offering any kind of fruit?
"You wanna push the button first?"
Is that the first time a contestant has called out the host?
Floymin Maybe, but that was for the blonde hair crack
It’s gotta be the biggest laugh a contestant ever got !
I love Joann Worley's laugh!
nice to see Jackie Joseph - remember her on Andy Griffith , as Ernest T. Bass 's sweetie and also enjoyed her in The Cheyenne Social Club.
I agree. I loved her.
One of my favorite movies (though more for Shirley Jones)! The byplay between Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda was hysterical.
@@brettmiddleton7949 - one of my favorites too and I have no Idea why It Is not rated higher on Rotten Tomatos
She was also the voice of Melody Valentine in the original "Josie And The Pussycats" Saturday morning cartoon.
Jo Ann Worley ❤❤❤❤❤
Wayne looks like the lost Allman brother. 🎸

5. Richard Dawson

I musta jinxed myself with my post in the previous episode when I said I thought it was time for Karen to go, not because I don't like her though. My word, Karen musta been tired and couldn't think of the warts have warts

UnderWood TypeWriters. Extinct machine.
I’m happy for Karen but I’m also thrilled I don’t have to look at that hairstyle again.
It's to bad Karen lost, the last question I was thinking "eyes" some of those questions are so ludicrous they are unanswerable.
$10,950 in 1974 is about
$53,000 in today's money.
Oh, you're WAY off. More like $150,000, at least in California cities.
2 years later (2020) it's worth $57,810.67
@@davidfritz1331 you are way too far, you went triple.👈
$11,000 in 1974 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $66,106.21 today, an increase of $55,106.21 over 48 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.81% per year between 1974 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 500.97%.
@@davidfritz1331the numerator is 5.5 so it be about 55,000 in 2023
Ironic that Nipsey Russell was on the panel with a Tin Man question, when a few years later, he would play the Tin Man in "The Wiz".
I didn't know that. My parents saw the Wiz when I was a child.
the wiz of oz?
@@pencils812 He was in the film version with Diana Ross.
@@dmnemaine cool!
Good show
Brett has been coughing for over a month.
Great run for Karen but she had insanely easy questions for the most part (including the one she went out on)
This was recorded on May 17th. The last recorded set was on May 6th. Karen the contestant is still wearing that same wig.
I'm guessing she only brought one wig with her.
You mean the "blonde challah".
On this date in 1978, Paul Robeson with staging for the play by Charles Nelson Reilly closed.
Did you watch it,? It's fantastic!
Wayne looks like Kenny Rogers.
No he doesn't
More like Greg Allman
That first question was one of the worst so far, IMO.
Yes, that William Tell shooting a ____________ off Raquel's chest was a lousy question. I said "bra" which seemed to make sense to me (and apparently to Richard), but everyone else (including the contestant) gave rotten answers to a rotten question. At least CNR made a humorous response, probably knowing there was little chance of matching with a good answer anyway.
I watched Match Game when it first aired. I often wondered why Brett didn't get a hearing aid. She was the most annoying regular on the show.
I would choose Hugh Downs
He was on the news 5 days a week. It would've been a good choice.
17:50 "...sometimes they don't find the women for 6 to 8 weeks"
