ECX Torment 2wd Transmission and Driveshaft Upgrades

- In today's episode, were tear down the entire ECX Torment Short Course Truck in order to do some serious upgrading!
But to start off the upgrades. We went ahead and installed some ECX harden steel Transmission gears in order to take the abuse of a brush less motor setup. The ECX Harden steel transmission gears do come pre-greased from the factory. So theirs no need to add any into the differential unless you want to put your own diff fluid in yourself.
Next i show you real quick the new Hot Racing Harden Steel drive shafts, and how they will look on the truck. However we don't have any of the suspension installed, at least it will give you an idea for now!

15t brushed motor. Dynamite esc. 2s 5200. My Torment is older than my kid. He's almost 9.... i JUST stripped something in the trans... after tightening the slipper. My bad. But i was wondering what was in there. Thanks for the vid.

i spray it with jig a loo and dielectric grease and that much like you did... nice project
I had rpm rear a-arms on my Torment 2wd but my hot racing driveshafts kept poping out so I installed the stock a-arms back on now they no longer pop out!
the RPM a-arms flex too much during landing
I tried several things: shock limiters, different shocks, different shock springs, different shock oil
but all it needed was installing the stock rear a-arms!
so if you have this issue here ya go 👌
You should probably lube up the entire surface of the bearings and try to squeeze as much as you can into the bearings all before assembly to assure a good amount of protection from rusting. Nit picking I guess, Love your vids, but that small amount of water repellent does help a bit. Again, splitting hairs. Personal preference only. I don't got through water except hosing it off and setting it in the sun to dry. That's cause I live in AZ and nothing stays wet for long anyways. Including river beds. LOL Keep up the great work bud.
Should of gotten MIP x-dutys for the Slash 4x4 rear they bolt right on to the rear of the torment. Also hot racing had thoes drive shafts out for a while now. But too bad there junk and only last a little longer then the stock ones.
Also you should do the sealed diff mod which helps alot so you can run and choose a good diff oil to run ensted of grease.

how do you figure fine thread holds better In holes that coarse screws have already been In? coarse threads=wider diameter than fine threads
Fine threads have more threads then coarse within a giving area. Which allow it the grab more of the surrounding area. coarse threads are practicly the same width as fine. the only difference is the amount of threads in the given area. unless you are looking at a larger course threaded screw verses a small fine threaded screw their both gonna be the same.
Matt, after the diff upgrade mine was binding really bad. so instead of getting frustrated I turned to rc overload as usual. thanks for the tip boss. btw, have you considered a career as topher grace's stunt double?

Will these axles fit on ecx Brutus monster truck?
I need some help. So my EXC MT has some problems with its axles. The part Inside the axle housing (where it connects to the metal part) is stripped from the plastic and under load it just spins. Any suggestions ?

Have you had to shim the diff yet? I have an amp mt, and put a sidewinder 3 combo on it. Now only driver side will spin. How would you do that on the ecx?
I used a 3s lipo with a 12 turn motor destroyed my plastic gears

How are those HR drive shafts working out...? I just broke the stock ones driving at a local clay track.... I'm thinking about upgrading to the HR metal drive shafts, you think that's a good idea?

I need help, when I put the truck down the wheels won't move, but when I hold the back end up and spin them with my hand they do.

I'm thinking about making the ecx brushless, I'm thinking about putting a castle setup in it but I don't know if I should buy aluminum gears and some driveshafts, I've heard that if you go brushless on it it strips the gears, pls help. thx!😃

How are the hot racing drive-shafts holding up? I keep breaking the stock ones. always the left side & always the inner drive cup, the one part they don't sell seperate. Not sure why it keeps happening always after a jump and yes im off the throttle
They sk dont bother...they pop off. Too short.
Hi I am getting into RC cars after getting away from Hobby Grade drones. I was looking into the Traxxas slash for bashing but 4wd is out of my budget. ECX torment looks like a good alternative. Any other reccomendations for bashers? I want preferably brushless 4wd short course truck for under the $300 range
+Mike BOULOS Definitly go with the ECX series. great basic bashing truck. with a decent amount of upgrades. and 4x4 will definitely be a better option!
i have a 1/10 scale ecx ruckus. i would like to get a porsche 911 gtr 3 body for my ecx. is that possible with alittle modifications
Most likely not. usually most on road bodies are actually a bit smaller then the trucks. It may be possible but i wouldn't even know were to look for one that would fit. Unfortunately.
Craig Boudinot buy a body 1/8 scale the race wheel 1/8 scales and the suspension car 1/8 with the chassis ecx ruckus or torment it perfect for that it just your car gonna look like 1/8 scale i see on reviews the the guy have a ecx torment and it change it to a car and he bought the porsche body the car go very fast

My car is full stock. I want to make it faster. Even the batteries are the ones that comer with the car. What should i upgrade first? To a brushless motor or a LiPo battery?

hey RC overload my traxxas slash is having a problem it's the tramsmition and the motor revs up really high but the tires don't spin but the rear axles still spin I was wondering if you could tell me what is wrong with it

I have a Ecx torment 2wd with a castle creations motor and esc I want to upgrade the spur gear and the pinion gear what should I do. I have the original gear size but the metal upgraded gears
My spur gear keeps getting shredded and the spur gear part of the transmission case melts
I wish I could show you pictures because I feel like this is making no sense.
+Cole Kennedy Is the spur gear stripping or melting? If it is melting, tighten your slipper. If it is just getting stripped, make sure your gear mesh is perfect and loosen your slipper a little bit.

+Jiggly puffs what is tight? When you spin the gears? If so make sure all the bearings are sitting correctly... it shouldn't feel tight when theirs no screws in their.... just make sure everything is sitting 100% is really the only advice i can give at the moment.

Check the spur gear could be stripped. If its not that check out the transmition gears i bet you will find somthing in thier.
Julian Garcia i have this happening to mine. The slipper constantly loosens. Tighten it up correctly and use threadlock.

I keep stripping my metal gear set on my forth set what am I doing wrong

Did you set up the slipper right? The slipper is much too strong from the factory. Try it out: Car on the table, hold with one arm the two back wheels so they wont move - take the radio in the other hand and pull the trigger full. The car should slightly raise the front wheels and NOT blocking at all. If it is so, just loose a bit the slipper screw until you hear the squeezing sound of the slipper, then just some 1/16 turns until its perfect. So you safe your gear life a lot!
I’ve replaced the metal gears twice and they stripped out, and yes I did apply grease
The biggest gear is broken how do I fix when I drive my truck it won't go but lift up it spins

good to see your videos, that's why i bought a torment and keep it going, just swap to brushless system, and the plastic gear seems holding up just fine since i run my slippers on the lose side.

rc overload, I was driving my ecx for like 3 minutes then it stopped, it will still stere but won't drive, it's not the battery because I ran it on a different one and the same thing happens, plz help me😨😨😨😨

But i actually haven't flown the chroma once yet....The weather has been absolutely horrible for several weeks now. its either raining or snowing... or windy as heck. take today for example... its nice and sunny out almost 60 degrees.. except the winds ar blow about 20-30 MPH today....so ya just waiting on some good weather then yes it will be out flying!

I like your work but I just wished you did More NITRO RC. You have the best set up to show nitro and gas RCs . You could talk about clutches, pipes , headers, motors. Porting and polishing cylinder sleeves, and fuel. It's so much better then the same old boring ass Fn electric 💩 that people only talk batteries about. You did some nitro in the past and it was ok, but you need to do and talk about good quality NITROS. It's a Big difference just like night and day. Good luck to you and hopefully you can be different then everyone else that's doing the boring quiet 💩.

+RC Overload ok cool! Looking forward on it. NITRO is still king for racing. Even for the new generation like Ty Tessman. He runs both but prefers NITROs. Adam Drake also says he prefers Nitros and Ryan Luttz and Cavellierie and many more. Good luck to you .

Did You Get The Hot Racing Super Duty Steel 48P Spur ? I Know It Comes In 81T ,85 And 87T ...I Blown Two Spur Gears Going From Sand Into High Grass ! But This Gears Not To Bad .. I Went Thew 5 Lipo's On 6 Run's And The Gears Are Fine ! And I Think It Fits On My Losi SCT XXX Too ...
