After developing the first hack to remove sleep mode from the Parkside Performance PDSSAP 20 B2, I wasn't satisfied with the idle current draw of 26mA, that could discharge the battery and damage it if left connected for days on end.
Now I've developed a definitive version of the fix, as a small PCB using a 555 timer to extend the sleep timeout to 6+ minutes. All the tool functions work perfectly, no more is a long trigger pull necessary to wake the tool up. As soon as you latch the battery, the tool is awake and ready to work. When left for longer than 6 minutes, it goes to sleep, drawing less than 0.5mA, meaning you can leave it for half a year and not discharge the battery, that's pretty much the self-discharge rate of the cells anyways!
Better yet, the fix works not only with the PDSSAP 20 (226Nm, 1/4" impact), but also other Performance line tools like the PASSP 20 (1356Nm, 1/2" impact), the PABSP 20 (60Nm drill) and the PSBSAP 20 (80Nm hammer drill), and gives all 4 of these tools the 6 min sleep timeout that makes them more comfortable to use.

I used a version of this circuit on a soldering station to adjust how much time it stays on, It's adjustable from 30 seconds to like 7.5 minutes. I hit start and then it turns on and even if I forget it on it turns of after a set time. I wanted to make it touch sensitive at first but since there is a transformer near the circuit board I was getting false triggering so I isolated the circuit in aluminum foil I think and grounded it on the inside and it works with a momentary switch. :)

Awesome improvement on the sleephack! Very nicely explained! Both the schematic and the wiring. Is the purchasable PCB compatible with the 500 microA improved version? Will this hack and the ultra low powerhack also drain the battery below the safety/shutoff voltage of 12-12,5V (or 2,5V/cell)? (And thus damage the battery?)

    Thanks in advance Markus

Received the tool. Have to say, as a DIY home user, not na issue for me.. I am "nervous", and I usually always keep rpessing the trigger anyway. Even when not, no big deal. But, someone who would use this over a long period of time in the day, with pauses, it might be annoying.

Hey, great job! I had some issues with sleep mode of powerbanks in the past. This kind of technology could solve the problem and would be worth another video. For example powering an arduino with a powerbank fails because an ordinary powerbank shuts off due to too less current consumption of the arduino.

Michelinek Use a bigger battery or choose a smaller powersetting (120Nm, 150Nm and maybe 190Nm). You will experience shutdowns of the tool with a 2Ah in heavy demand cases (226Nm position). A 4Ah battery has a max decharge current of 50A. That should be sufficient for this tool for all powersettings. The max current it can supply will drop as the battery discharges. So a with nearly discharged 4Ah battery you might also experience shutdowns. An 8Ah battery has a max discharge current of 100Ah. This will never cause shutdowns for this tool.

@@nekron75 not really - ua-cam.com/video/Dlwc5uQ9cVo/v-deo.html Using smaller torque settings indeed can help, but that makes the max power 226 damn annoying, almost useless.
Anyway I don't get the point of a impact driver shutting down under heavy load - its the hammer mechanism that should do the work, not the engine. Something's definitely not right with this tool and I'd also like to know what. @Gadget Engineering Do you think it could be the engine protection circuits cutting the tool down? Based on all the tests across YT, battery does not matter much.

@@GadgetEngineering ua-cam.com/video/Dlwc5uQ9cVo/v-deo.html This is what Michelinek refers to. tool engine (motor) shutting down when heavily loaded - on 226Nm setting, regardless of the battery. Seems like there is some tool protection, which overheats or kicks in way too soon. Or the motor is too small for the hammer mechanism..

You seems to be a real crack in electronic, could you have look on the reel big problem of this model? When the machine is at 226nm, it cut when you screwing in clock wise, even the motor is not hot, there’s an excellent video which demonstrate that. I can send you the link if you want. So, the machine screwing stronger in 190nm as 226nm it’s funny isn’t it?

Put the link here if you will so we can all have a look. Sure the shutdowns are not related to the battery not being able to supply enough current?

This function is present in all the PDSSAP 20 and most other Parkside Performance tools, there is a 40s timeout, you see this when the green LED goes out. After that to start the motor, it requires a strong trigger pull, and 3/4s delay. when the green LED is on, the motor reacts to the trigger much faster. Try it yourself, you just haven't noticed it until now. I also demonstrated this in a previous video. It's not a bug, it is software code in the firmware...
