I read somewhere that one can use a common drinking straw to remove the glue that squeezes out. I tried it and I like it. The straw conforms to the square corner and the glue gets scooped up. The bigger straw the better - I then cut an inch off the straw and discard the gluey piece. Saves using a wet rag or cuetip. Plus it is a great excuse to make Margaritas. Love the videos Dave.
Nick Bazin no, he means scraping the straw along where the two edges meet as a scooper. It’s actually works very well. You can cut a 45 off the tip of the straw and the straw is already soft enough to mold into the edges and pick up just about all of the glue.
Wow thanks for sharing information. I have a question that if i don't use these clamps and just put a weight that will hold and balance either sides and keep pressing it in the same way. Will it work? and you didn't tell the name of glues we can use.
i've had a similar problem before, but when the bridge ripped up, it took a lot of the wood with it from the top as well as the lacquer, i advised them to either see a specialist or buy a new one as i had no idea whether re-gluing the bridge on would hold well enough being that there was now a lack of material (if that makes sense). anywho, for future reference, what can you do in this situation?
Nice work Dave! I had an old Yamaha on my bench a couple of months ago, with the same disease... A bit delamination of the top under the bridge, and since it was a cheapo, I stabilized it with superglue. The owner told me it sounded better than ever now :)
I guess Im randomly asking but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Parker Noah i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
This was such a cool video, Dave! Thanks! I have one git that I bought with a split in the bridge. It's a cheapie guitar and plays fine (the bridge is just split - it's not lifting yet). I could practice on it if I could find clamps to press the new one down.
Cheers mate, great video thanks for the knowledge. Just picked up a celebrity on the side of road great spruce top with pick up but bridge is stuffed, she may have life in her yet. May use the tape to remove the bride tho just to keep the body sweet.
Dave do you wipe the bridge down with acetone before gluing ever if there oily woods like Rosewood. Just wondering if it would help I've only glued one in my life ( so far ).
Thanks for another great video dave I have been getting tips from you for years. Can you tell me what glue you used I have this issue with my epiphone that I am trying to sell id bring it to you but youre too far away.
Dave, have you done a vid on lowering the action on an acoustic? I've sanded down the bottom bridge almost level with the retaining wood and got the neck straight via the truss rod but it's still like a cheese grater, or may be its just a cheap (Berkley) guitar? What do you recommend for a decent acoustic with a nice low action? Keep 'em coming bro......
Why does the design of the guitar make it so difficult to remove the bridge? !!... I have an Ovation Celebrity CK047 with a cracked bridge. The Ovation style bridge does not use bridge pins. Does that mean I have to use an Ovation style replacement bridge? Why cant I use a standard acoustic bridge?... Having trouble finding Ovation replacement bridge
most of those pickups I've seen you can turn them 90' while pushing them down the hole and they just drop in. Later it is pretty easy to just push them back up. I have two saddles made for my guitar, one for use with pick-up, one without (better acoustic sound as the pickup dampens the sound a bit)
Dave's World of Fun Stuff thanks a lot Dave, this video is pretty old, didn’t think I’d get a reply. But I figured, probably just gonna end up selling it before I ruin it
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff thanks for the reply, I learn a lot from you I making a living now by my guitar repairs and I can say you are one of my reference, cheers
So did the guitar have any "belly bulge"? If not have you ever done a repair on an acoustic that had "belly bulge" ? Stewmac has a tool (at $129) that is supposed to fix guitar belly bulge, but I have read mixed review. We need Dave's BB fixer upper video. :-)
i hate it when companies put the bridge on top of the lacquer top. does it really cost that much more to remove the lacquer where the bridge goes. it cost me $140 to get a bridge replacement on my yamahaha that cost $400, and when the guy replaced it, he told me it was one of those classic cases where the bridge was glued on top of the finish. my next $400 guitar will be made by epiphone, thank you very much.
oh my Goodness, it was really hard and its also tricky to fix the guitar bridge :'( ... the adhesive you were using Sir is that normal adhesive for woods or not?
Quite dumb to ask but, was that some kind of wood glue or just regular school glue? Im about to fix my cheap guitar so please help. Just subscribed btw hehe
Picture all that glue running down the bridge pin holes and messing up the insides of the bridge plate. Can get awful messy. Plan ahead and close those holes with waxed paper and a caul. Can be reamed out after all is dry.
never score the sound board because if the bridge comes loose again it will pull some of that wood with it. im not a luthier just learned that from watching vids on youtube. otherwise nice video thumbs up.
The weirdest thing happened to me. When I was out driving the bridge of the guitar broke off clean like the whole bridge broke off the body of the guitar. I have to go to the guitar center tomorrow to get a replacement guitar.
im so stupid, before watching this, i tried to fix the guitar bridge on my own, put mighty bond glue on it while the BRIDGE PINS is still on, now the bridge pins is super glued on the hole and cant be remove anymore. what shall i do??
Yeah because I have an acoustic 12 string Ibanez and it was like $300 and now I have to blow a whole bill just to repair it 😒 and I’ve only had it for like 11 months!!
Can I please get your email address? I have a few collectible vintage acoustic guitars that I need work done to, like neck resets, new saddles, mould repair, etc. Thanks man, great videos and information btw, Johnny.

+glen wallace : Yeah, but then you'd be drinking the glue. I'm pretty sure it's toxic.

Not sucking the glue through a straw...
Are you a US Marine they like Elmer's glue and crayons. 😉

@Parker Noah it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass!
@Forrest Quinton No problem :)
You sir are wholesome. And a great teacher
Thanks for the vid. A lot of tutorials recommend using a caul or wooden blocks between the C clamps and the guitar, does that matter at all
Even not scratching a lot the clamps, isn´t good to protect the bridge with some shim avoiding marks from clamps pads?
Doesn’t require much pressure
Dave, the one in the middle is a stewmac 5" and the other 2 are 7", right?

Ha! I know they have everything. I should have said, if I could find clamps "in my house". For free. Which I won't, since I don't own any. Lol
I wonder if using a couple of tiny bolts and nuts to secure to the surface would be alright? please advise.
Cheers mate, great video thanks for the knowledge. Just picked up a celebrity on the side of road great spruce top with pick up but bridge is stuffed, she may have life in her yet. May use the tape to remove the bride tho just to keep the body sweet.

So I don’t have c clamps and just want to improvise. Is it okay if I use a screw and locking it through the string holes with a bolt beneath?

I will leave the comment up for the kids. I just found in the comments titebond II wood glue thanks dave!

Try radius'n the bottom of bridge next time...did lowering action at bridge change intonation?
The suspense!
May I ask what type of glue is used for this repair?
Is that standard Elmer's wood glue or is it an Epoxy sir?
hello Mr.Dave nice meeting your in blog of UA-cam
Is this an ibanez problems. Because my son got the same guitar with same problems.

What glue do u use, just regular wood glue?
What is the brand of glue that you used?
What to use to smoothen the wood part on the bridge of the guitar hmmm?
Dave, how big of a deal would it be to swap one of these bridges? I have a lefty Taylor I really want to convert but I want to do it myself.

which gum should be used
Please suggest me
What does a repair like that cost? and where do you purchase the clamps
Came here to repair a cheap acoustic guitar with exactly the same problem. It's also an Ibanez. interesting...
same!
Same!
I guess we can all say Ibanez suck. I got the same problems. Well more like my son got same problem. I never was an Ibanez fan.

can i use titebond glue in that case?

I have those same clamps and scratched the hell out of a top with them. Now I throw a cedar shim or a scrap of leather under the leveler "foot".

What kind of glue? Your previous answer to this question is blank. Thanks.

Drill them out and use a reamer
you make a clean the wood but you keep touching it after
4:18 "I need the garbage can".
didnt we see something like this before?

maybe they should chang there name to ibangoochez
It's because of this that I find the idea of glued-on bridges cringeworthy. Instead, I'd devise a truss inside the body and screw the bridge to that.
Cheap Ibanez acoustic =bridge problem. I touched 2 different models and always the same after some while. It is factory issue.

Hi can you fix my gitar
Cmon man, use pieces of wood on top not metal to wood wtf
you should put a bridge doctor on that thing why glue it again lol
Wood on Wood! LMAO
should of just pushed the pickup bar back through the hole. thats how they assembled it in china, they just push it through.
