  • In the Edo period Japan began to enter a time of rest from numerous military conflicts and social changes. The economy also showed signs of growth. Since then, towns have seen an increase in restaurants. People liked to spend their new wealth in food, pleasure and art. By the late Edo period restaurants, food stalls, and other eating places were seeing remarkable success.
