Views of Mt. Fuji - Hiroshige and Hokusai in Comparison
The best woodcuts of their views of the Holy Mountain of Japan: Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). In constant alternation and comparable motifs, the artists' proprium and their view of the mountain were shown. Hokusais dynamic creation and Hiroshige still contemplation were meeting here in a subject and love, that they share in their japanese culture.

Along the old Tokaido Road with U. Hiroshige - Kichizō Tōkaidō
The Tōkaidō, or “eastern sea road,” was an important preindustrial roadway connecting Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto in Japan. Fifty-three official stations along the Tōkaidō offered places to stop for a meal, shop for supplies, enjoy local entertainment and find lodging. Hiroshige has made several woodcut-editions from these stations - this is the so called "Kichizo Tokaido". Music: Suno.com

U. Hiroshige - Women in Japan during the Edo-Era
In Hiroshige's time, the Edo era, art and trade flourished despite Japan's self-imposed isolation. The resurgence of Confucianism meant that women were forced back into a subordinate gender role. At the time, they were almost completely dependent on men, as they had few rights themselves. They therefore took care of the household or, as far as rural areas were concerned, worked in the rice fiel...

The series of the 53 stations of the Tokaido Road are one of the main and most brilliant works of Utagawa Hiroshige. In former times most visitors reached Edo (Tokyo) on foot, travelling along one of the country's five major highways. The most famous is the Eastern Sea Road (Tōkaidō), which runs for 500 kilometres between Edo and Kyoto. Its 53 main stations and numerous intermediate stations we...

The Old Tokaidō Road was the main walking trail between Edo (the name for Tokyo during the Edo era, 1603-1868) and Kyoto, the former capital of Japan. It was an important - and probably quite busy - road for samurai, officials and merchants during that time. Along the road, there were posts, inns, temples and shrines at the service of weary travelers. Nowadays, some of the religious sites remai...

very nice video..!
Sehr schön! Ganz andere Welt!
Wunderschön! Vielen lieben Dank!
amazing art
The problem with Utagawa Hiroshige is that there are too many 'cheap' repros of his woodcuts and they have undervalued his work! His love of nature comes through in these examples ; it's nice to see his 'sense of humour' in portraying the 'sleeping' owl on a tree!
Nice selection---have never seen these before; then Van Gogh produced about 2000 works! He was fascinated by 'colour' and (as he said himself) it 'drove him mad'. He sought that love and affection in his art which he lacked in his life. And the colour of 'yellow' contributed to his 'madness'; it is a known scientific fact it is the one colour which visitors in art galleries cannot tolerate (especially when used as interior decor on the walls). Again---a nice selection!!!

("Musik: A. Vivaldi"). Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto in G major for Two Guitars, Strings and Continuo in G major, RV 533, 2. Satz: Andante.
