    Amongst his various letters and responses, Pope Francis has said "We can't bless sin", "Any sexual activity outside of marriage is a sin" and "Marriage is between a man and a woman". And yes, he then also clarified that we can't bless gay unions in a way that confuses them with marriage, which is true even if you want to claim its ambiguous. But clarity has been offered in other places, and it shouldn't be ignored.

      At the same time, he passively tolerates the blessing of same-Sex unions by the German bishops while going after traditional Catholics…

      @pjelpers 6 місяців тому +10

      @philkhz Fair enough, I agree the German Bishops should also be addressed. It's confusing why they aren't, but let's not cause more confusion by taking the Pope out of context or not reading statements in light of things he's already said and clarified. And then use that as further evidence to claim "I think the Pope is intending to be ambiguous and cause confusion."... when in actuality, Martin is the one causing the confusion, whether he intends to or not.

      Yes but his occasional statements that support some degree of orthodoxy are in conflict with other public statements and behaviors. That ambiguity.

    • @pjelpers
      @pjelpers 6 місяців тому

      @steelmongoose4956 Atheists make the same claims about the Bible. That it's self-contradicting, confusing and ambiguous enough to split Christianity.
      But our faith informs us that seemingly contradictory passages can be harmonized, and so we strive to do so.
      Likewise, do we believe the papal magisterium can promote heresy or not? The traditional Catholic faith is that it can't, and if the Rad Trads strived to harmonize Pope Francis with traditional teachings, they could. The clarity has been offered. But instead, they pick and choose, then often use that as a reason to defend dissenting from the Pope or sedevecantist positions.

    • @luizg8034

      @@steelmongoose4956 It is clear that the Holy Father wants to uphold orthodoxy, while at the same time not being openly hostile to catholics who have fallen prey to the liberal cultural zeitgeist.
      There are many people who pray the Rosary, go to Confession and receive the Eucharist, but innocently believe that it's charitable and compassionate to be in favor of same sex unions or abortion. Perhaps he is worried that they might leave the Church if she shows herself aggressively opposed to these issues.
      He is clear on the topics. To anyone who knows where to look, his position is unambiguous: Pope Francis upholds the tradition. But these statements aren't as easy to find as I'd like. It's a matter of prudence which he has the right to exercise and we have the right to disagree on.

    There is no ambiguity, the Dubia explicitly says that there can’t be rites neither sacraments done that could misguide someone to think that something can be equal or have similarities to marriage (A blessing is a rite). And it also says that marriage is between man and woman. It also says that people or groups of people can be blessed, but if your read the parts before, you would conclude that it doesn’t refer to couples, but individuals and groups of individuals (like people from Courage and so on). There is no ambiguity, people who don’t understand is because they don’t want to. Once the heart is hardened it is difficult to have charity and love.

      That isn’t the part that is ambiguous. No one is claiming that the Pope is equating a same sex union as a marriage. At least Martin isn’t claiming that in this snippet.
      The ambiguity is the Pope leaving the door open for a priest to exercise his own discretion to give a form of blessing to a same sex union. Because in the Pope’s words, when a blessing is asked it’s a plea to God to “live better”. Which begs the question. Live better how? In accordance with God’s standard or man made standards that vary with the mores of the times?
      From personal experience I can say that I don’t know of any gay or lesbian couple that sought a formal union who were seeking to live better in accordance with the Christian faith by abandoning their lifestyle. Rather the opposite. They wanted the world to know that they are committed to their same sex relationship.

    Those that erode the gospel truths of the Holy Trinity with regard to sexual immorality and sexual confusion and work to dismantle objective truth whether they are laity, priests or bishops -- they do grave, grave harm to individuals, families, communities and nations and quite frankly objective truth that underpins science, morality, law and reason. As a person that lived in the world of LGBT for decades and who converted to Catholicism, if not for the clarity of the Catholic church on the subject of morality, the objective truth, and of the church teachings based in sound reason, I would never had the courage to set aside the disordered thinking of secular society and return to being a true follower of Christ in truth, purity of heart, mind and soul and take the hand of Jesus Christ once more. Church leaders that think we need to just get with it, evolve with the times and thus complying with sexual mores of a secular world that has disdain for God, are just at best emotional dupes of the Spirit of the Age or well, just evil. Truth matters. God bless the Bride of Christ.

    They only way your can sustain a battle with any kind of sexual disorder, wheather straight or gay is: Daily Mass, Monthy Confession, at least one hour of prayer everyday. I pray 3 hours everday. I say 15 decades of the rosary everday along with other devotions. I also read the bible everyday. I consectrated myself to the Blessed Mother, that really works believe it or not. I am straight but struggled with a particular sin for most of my life. The things I mentioned above is what saved me. I still have the temptation with this particular mortal sin, however with Gods grace it is very manageable. It cannot over power me like it did before. Its like St Augustine. He said his lust for women never completely left him but he was able to contain it through Gods grace. The thing that irritates me about this gay blessing is, It is going to help anybody, it will do just the opposite. The pope is supposed to be smart. He is a dummy on this one. Mis-guided compassion. And that is being gentle. I pray for him, but I dont like him. He is revolting to me. Also he is tempting priests to commit a grave sin by doing a blessing. Its insanity in the catholic church.

    Fernández’s full response to LifeSiteNews is as follows:
    What the Church said is that the homosexual union is not blessed, because it [the Church] has the clear definition of marriage which is a union between a male and female open to new life.
    Only that is called matrimony - marriage, only that reality is called that way.
    So the blessing that could confuse and not make clear about this reality is not good for the Church.
    But perhaps also [they] need blessings, not only one isolated person, but two persons who are asking for a blessing because they want to be faithful to God, they want to be better, they want to grow in their Christian life.
    The blessing is not a sacrament. And we mustn’t ask the same conditions [for] a simple blessing that we ask for a sacrament.
    Blessing is a sign of the “opera pastorale” [pastoral work], to every people in every situation, and we [need to] know nothing [about] the people with how is his Christian life, the morals and other things [in order] to give the blessing.

      It goes both ways. We should practice digital hygiene and be aware of harmful influence and distortions created by the media technology and the way we interface with it…. BUT as LEADERS the Church should also be concerned with how these technologies disrupt the channels of communication. It’s not just mainstream media giving us “misinfo” about Church politics. There are active disinfo media people working for the church creating this parallel “media magisterium”. The Church has been hijacked in a similar way to how Vatican II was hijacked by Big Media and the picture they want to paint for the public.

      Not really true. If the Pope and his helpers wanted to give clarity they sure would have the means to do it. It would be sufficient to:
      1) be straightforward in his comments and declarations
      2) stop the blatant use of double standard when they "fix" problems/situations/bishops or at least motivate the evident use of double standard
      3) really motivate some very questionable and discriminatory choices
      Out there, plenty of catholic podcaster/ youtube channel/ etc can't wait to have the means to defend the Pope. Most of them stopped to defend him simply because the Pope itself (and the Curia) never provided the necessary means.

  • @lucaanghinetti8118

    I think something is unclear nowadays. A bad Pope is not someone who change the doctrine, because if we believe in the Church and in the Holy spirit we also believe that He will never allow a Pope to teach an heresy ex catedra. A bad Pope is a Pope who has a bad moral conduct and/or doesn't defend the doctrine of the Church and/or doesn't bring clarity on doctrinal matter when confusion and ambiguity arise. Sure, Pope Francis has never openly taught heresy and we can almost be certain of his personal orthodoxy as we are also pretty sure he is a good person. Nevertheless not only he didn't bring certainty in situation of ambiguity but he himself caused most of them, not to mention that he often had a discriminatory double standard when dealing with certain situations/groups. In conclusion (obviously in my opinion) for very (VERY!) different reasons I classify as "bad popes" both Alexander VI and Pope Francis and I think I can reasonably say this and still be a catholic. I really hope to change my mind before the end of this pontificate but I fear I won't.

    First and foremost, a pope can't be a heretic, according to saint Bellarmine, and a private individual can't judge a pope regarding doctrinal error (according to pope Hadrian in the 8th ecumenical council). Michael Lofton (from Reason and Theology) has many videos regarding this topic demontrating just that. Furthemore, the response to the dubia was very clear that the homosexual union is not blessed, but the person requesting the blessing can. Cardinal Fernandez even said in an exclusive interview with LifeSite News (which they kept hidden for weeks and misrepresented), that the Church teaches that the homosexual union is not blessed, but the person, even if they are homosexuals they can still receive the blessing.

    If there is a heretical interpretation, it is intentional, so stop making that interpretation seem ambiguous. “I think I can see how that might be okay” is not good enough. Such is the point of the many dubias sent to Bergoglio, and always, the most heretical interpretation possible is the one that he validates, if he answers at all.
